Scunthorpe is a town in North Lincolnshire, England. It is the administrative centre of the North Lincolnshire unitary authority, and had an estimated total resident population of 72,514 people in 2010. A predominantly industrial town, Scunthorpe, the United Kingdom's largest steel processing centre, is also known as the "Industrial Garden Town". It is the third largest settlement in Lincolnshire after Lincoln and Grimsby. The Member of Parliament for Scunthorpe is Nic Dakin (Labour).
History
Scunthorpe was made up of 5 small villages. These were Scunthorpe, Frodingham, Crosby, Brumby and Ashby. They later joined up to make Scunthorpe as we know today.
Etymology
The town appears in the Domesday Book (1086) as Escumesthorpe, which is Old Norse for "Skuma's homestead", a site which is believed to be in the town centre close to where the present-day Market Hill is located.
Geology
Scunthorpe was close to the epicentre (this was centred at Ludford, near Louth) of one of the largest earthquakes experienced in the British Isles on 27 February 2008, with a magnitude of 5.2. Significant shocks were felt in Scunthorpe and the surrounding North Lincolnshire area. The main 10-second quake, which struck at 00:56GMT at a depth of 9.6mi (15.4km), was the second largest recorded in the British Isles. In 1984 a quake with a magnitude of 5.4 struck north Wales.
Scunthorpe is an English town and the administrative centre of the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire.
Scunthorpe may also refer to:
Scunthorpe (borough), former district, mostly an urban borough, of Humberside between 1974 and 1996, totally enclosed within the former Humberside district of Glanford
Ashby, Bottesford, Brumby, Crosby and Park, Froddingham, Kingsway with Lincoln Gardens, Ridge and Town In North Lincolnshire
History
Although there was talk in a local newspaper in the 1930s that the town of Scunthorpe should have a parliamentary constituency named after it, it was only after the boundary reviews implemented in 1997 that a constituency of this name was created. Previous incarnations of a constituency containing the steel town and small towns and villages around it had been called (going backwards in time) Glanford and Scunthorpe, Brigg and Scunthorpe, and Brigg.

All four of the Iron's goals, including our pitchside angle, from the 4-1 home win over Scarborough Athletic.
Oddities and illegalities on the roads of Scunthorpe.

DU10LLF on his phone. Not enough to report him in my opinion but never mind, he's local, I may come across him again (I've been cut up by him before).

Scunthorpe United A-A Buxton FC
Ermm where do I start. One of the hottest days of the year and the game was abandoned due to torrential rain. What a day, left France early doors much to Debbie’s dismay. Back home for 11.45, at the ground for 14.00. Football is back after missing the last 2 games.
Buxton on a good run, scoring 11 and conceding 0 in the last 4 games. Scunthorpe looking dominant at home and seemingly scoring goals for fun. Buxton did a job on us and we’re disciplined, they also loved a hard tackle. Whether it was late or not. Referee let lots go, then other times blew up for the smallest thing. Was one of those games you needed to be at. Hopefully you get a feel for it from the vlog. Cheers to Barra for doing bits too from the DRE 👏🏼👏🏼

While most of the media attention has been given to Tories performing poorly ahead of the election, no one has really said anything about Scottish independence. In this video, we take a look at what a Labour supermajority means for the Scottish independence, and why a lot of this depends on Labour's attitude to the Union.

Reform UK to stand in virtually every seat, Tice announces
Richard Tice has announced Reform UK will stand candidates in 630 out of a total of 650 seats at the general election as he insisted his party will return MPs to Westminster.
Launching Reform’s election campaign at a press conference in central London, Mr Tice claimed Rishi Sunak had “cut and run” by calling the contest on July 4.
He claimed that the Tory leader had acted now because he was “absolutely terrified” of Reform “going up and up in the polls” while the Conservatives “have been sinking”.
Mr Tice said Reform will stand candidates in all 630 seats across England, Scotland and Wales and he will be standing in the constituency of Boston and Skegness.

Who Can I Vote For?: Scunthorpe
The UK General Election in 2024 uses the new electoral boundaries. Only 65 of the 650 seats are staying the same. Some seats are new, while some are abolished. In these videos we look at why boundaries are changing, a summary of the new constituency including demographics and geography, how the population of the new constituency is formed from the old seats. Then we get into the politics. We present the results for each of the constituencies in 2019, then look at the trends for the main seat that is being replaced. For the main seat, we look who won, who came second, and the majority. We look at the graph of the vote share for the last 4 elections. Then we list the final list of candidates and make a prediction for the 2024 winner based on predictions using an optimistic scenario and a bad...

Then we list the final list of candidates and make a prediction for the 2024 winner based on predictions using an optimistic scenario and a bad day for the Conservatives.
Data is from the UK Parliament, ONS, and Who Can I Vote For?

Join me for a walk around the centre of one of Britain's foremost industrial towns, Scunthorpe! Born out of a grouping of rural villages in the 1850s when iron ore was re-discovered in the ground, this town has risen to become one of the five leading centres of steel production in the country, with a heap of local history to uncover too!
On our walk around Scunthorpe, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including the former St. John's Church, 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Church Square, Scunthorpe Central Library, The Foundry Shopping Centre, Scunthorpe Steelworkers Sculpture, High Street, The Tavern (formerly the Oswald Hotel), the Penny Bank Pub, The Blue Bell Inn, Oswald Road, North Lincolnshire Museum, Scunthorpe and District War Memorial, Frodingham Vicarage, St. Lawrence's Church and Scunthorpe station.

While most of the media attention has been given to Tories performing poorly ahead of the election, no one has really said anything about Scottish independence. In this video, we take a look at what a Labour supermajority means for the Scottish independence, and why a lot of this depends on Labour's attitude to the Union.

The UK General Election in 2024 uses the new electoral boundaries. Only 65 of the 650 seats are staying the same. Some seats are new, while some are abolished. When you're alone all that time pulls you inside, Deeper into what has shaped you. Into the joy of cursed teenager night, Into the first kiss, the first blood. But all that time has gone away. This is hour zero. All those moments went away, To where moments go. Never fool yourself, Making the past present. Keep those doors closed and locked. Keep those doors closed and locked. So many lives that have collided with yours. So many seconds of splendor. And you loose yourself into what's been, Into haunted rooms. Keep those doors closed and locked. Keep those doors closed and locked. There is nothing but the now. Don't resurrect the forgotten, Or the dead will start dragging you,
