Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip (Aaron Sorkin) - Why It Failed
NBC is getting ready for the Premiere of its most talked-about New Series Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip. The return of Aaron Sorkin to television a few years after leaving the West Wing for drug-related reasons. Like his previous series, Studio 60 is an inside look at one of the beloved staples of Americana, this time subbing out a hit Sports Talk Show or the White House for an SNL equivalent called what else, Studio 60 On The Sunset strip. Even bigger than Sorkin's return to NBC was the return of Matthew Perry to NBC in his 1st show post Friends. Throw in the rest of this stacked cast Bradley Whitfield fresh off The West Wing, Amanda Peet (Perry’s co Star in The Whole Nine Yards films), Sarah Paulson (Years before American Horror Story would make her a household name), DL Hughley(who is grossly underrated) and Simon Helberg (who was at the same time also cast for a pilot on a show called Big Bang Theory. Unfortunately for Helberg, the show was not picked up to series and instead was being retooled for the next pilot season).
The show also included a slew of Sorkin regulars in multiple roles and the format of the show welcomed many guest stars that can tie into shows currently on NBC. To make this even better, Critic adored Sorkin’s new series, naming it the Best New Overall program in a poll conducted at the time. All of this sounds like a recipe for success for everyone involved. Unfortunately, there were a few things holding back what could have been a memorable series. This is Ryan from Let Me Be Critic here to answer the question. Why did Studio 60 on the sunset strip fail to get a second season?
