Dominican Order

The Order of Preachers (Latin: Ordo Praedicatorum, hence the abbreviation OP used by members), more commonly known after the 15th century as the Dominican Order or Dominicans, is a Roman Catholic religious order founded by the Spanish priest Saint Dominic de Guzman in France and approved by Pope Honorius III (1216–27) on 22 December 1216. Membership in this "mendicant" Order includes friars, nuns, active sisters, and lay or secular Dominicans (formerly known as tertiaries, though recently there has been a growing number of Associates, who are unrelated to the tertiaries) affiliated with the Order.

Founded to preach the Gospel and to combat heresy, the teaching activity of the order and its scholastic organization placed the Preachers in the forefront of the intellectual life of the Middle Ages. The order is famed for its intellectual tradition, having produced many leading theologians and philosophers. The Dominican Order is headed by the Master of the Order, who is currently Bruno Cadoré. Members of the order generally carry the letters O.P., standing for Ordinis Praedicatorum, meaning of the Order of Preachers, after their names.

Phosphorus pentoxide

Phosphorus pentoxide is a chemical compound with molecular formula P₄O₁₀ (with its common name derived from its empirical formula, P₂O₅). This white crystalline solid is the anhydride of phosphoric acid. It is a powerful desiccant and dehydrating agent.

Structure

Phosphorus pentoxide crystallizes in at least four forms or polymorphs. The most familiar one, a metastable form, shown in the figure, comprises molecules of P₄O₁₀. Weak van der Waals forces hold these molecules together in a hexagonal lattice (However, in spite of the high symmetry of the molecules, the crystal packing is not a close packing). The structure of the P₄O₁₀ cage is reminiscent of adamantane with T_dsymmetry point group. It is closely related to the corresponding anhydride of phosphorous acid, P₄O₆. The latter lacks terminal oxo groups. Its density is 2.30 g/cm³. It boils at 423 °C under atmospheric pressure; if heated more rapidly it can sublimate. This form can be made by condensing the vapor of phosphorus pentoxide rapidly, the result is an extremely hygroscopic solid.

Allotropes of oxygen

There are several known allotropes of oxygen. The most familiar is molecular oxygen (O₂), present at significant levels in Earth's atmosphere and also known as dioxygen or triplet oxygen. Another is the highly reactive ozone (O₃). Others include:

Atomic oxygen (O₁, a free radical).

Singlet oxygen (O₂*), either of two metastable states of molecular oxygen.

Tetraoxygen (O₄), another metastable form.

Solid oxygen, existing in six variously colored phases, of which one is O
8 and another one metallic.

Atomic oxygen

Atomic oxygen, denoted O(³P), O(3P) or O((3)P), is very reactive, as the single atoms of oxygen tend to quickly bond with nearby molecules; on Earth's surface it does not exist naturally for very long, though in outer space, the presence of plenty of ultraviolet radiation results in a low Earth orbit atmosphere in which 96% of the oxygen occurs in atomic form.

Dioxygen

The common allotrope of elemental oxygen on Earth, O
2, is generally known as oxygen, but may be called dioxygen or molecular oxygen to distinguish it from the element itself. Elemental oxygen is most commonly encountered in this form, as about 21% (by volume) of Earth's atmosphere. Dioxygen can occur in metastable states, called singlet oxygen; in contrast, the ground state is known as triplet oxygen.

For most Christians, Sunday is observed as a day of worship and rest, holding it as the Lord's Day and the day of Christ's resurrection. Sunday is a day of rest in most Western countries, part of 'the weekend'. In some Muslim countries and Israel, Sunday is the first work day of the week. According to the Hebrew calendars and traditional Christian calendars, Sunday is the first day of the week, and according to the International Organization for Standardization ISO 8601 Sunday is the seventh and last day of the week. No century in the Gregorian calendar starts on a Sunday, whether its first year is considered to be '00 or '01. The Jewish New Year never falls on a Sunday. Etymology

Sunday, being the day of the Sun, as the name of the first day of the week, is derived from Hellenistic astrology, where the seven planets, known in English as Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury and the Moon, each had an hour of the day assigned to them, and the planet which was regent during the first hour of any day of the week gave its name to that day. During the 1st and 2nd century, the week of seven days was introduced into Rome from Egypt, and the Roman names of the planets were given to each successive day.

The third season of Stargate Atlantis, an American-Canadian television series, began airing on July 21, 2006 on the US-American Sci Fi Channel. The third season concluded after 20 episodes on February 5, 2007 on the Canadian The Movie Network. The series was developed by Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, who also served as executive producers. Sunday was an Australian current affairs, arts and politics program, broadcast nationally on Sunday mornings on the Nine Network Australia. The program covered a range of topical issues including local and overseas news, politics, and in-depth stories on Australia and the world, plus independent film reviews, independent arts features, and independent music reviews. Its final show was aired on Sunday, 3 August 2008.

History

The announcement of the launch of the private and independent breakfast television and Canberra-produced politics program on 22 October 1981 inspired controversy, as it was then practice to fill the spot with religious programming. The advent and ongoing success of Sunday was a significant milestone in Australian television, as it for the first time offered a credible alternative/rival to the dominant influence of the ABC's flagship current affairs program Four Corners, which had premiered 20 years earlier. Sunday was often referred to as the "baby" of network boss Kerry Packer, although rival media outlets have characterised it as "an expensive indulgence".

  Allotropes: Definition, Examples, and Practice

  The topic of allotropes comes up frequently in chemistry. In this video we’ll define the term allotrope, look at examples, and then practice so we can easily recognize allotropes. Here is the formal definition for allotropes: Allotropes are different structural forms of the same element in the same physical state. For example, O2 (g) and O3 (g) are allotropes. They are both made up of only Oxygen atoms, both are gases, but they have different structural formulas. Something like H2O (l) and H2O2 (l) would not be considered allotropes. Dominican Order

The Order of Preachers (Latin: Ordo Praedicatorum, hence the abbreviation OP used by members), more commonly known after the 15th century as the Dominican Order or Dominicans, is a Roman Catholic religious order founded by the Spanish priest Saint Dominic de Guzman in France and approved by Pope Honorius III (1216–27) on 22 December 1216. Membership in this "mendicant" Order includes friars, nuns, active sisters, and lay or secular Dominicans (formerly known as tertiaries, though recently there has been a growing number of Associates, who are unrelated to the tertiaries) affiliated with the Order.

Founded to preach the Gospel and to combat heresy, the teaching activity of the order and its scholastic organization placed the Preachers in the forefront of the intellectual life of the Middle Ages. The order is famed for its intellectual tradition, having produced many leading theologians and philosophers. The Dominican Order is headed by the Master of the Order, who is currently Bruno Cadoré. Members of the order generally carry the letters O.P., standing for Ordinis Praedicatorum, meaning of the Order of Preachers, after their names.

In this video we will looks at what allotropes are, and different examples of them. The term allotrope refers to different forms of the same element. Diamond and graphite are made of only carbon atoms – yet they exhibit very different physical and chemical properties. These differences are due to the arrangement of carbon atoms within the structure. Each carbon atom in diamond is covalently bound to four other carbon atoms in a tetrahedral structure. Each carbon atom in graphite is covalently bound to three other carbon atoms, forming hexagonal sheets. Other allotropes of carbon include buckminsterfullerene and graphene. Allotropism also exists in other elements, such as oxygen, phosphorus, and sulfur. Oxygen can exist as diatomic oxygen, O2, which is the form that we breathe in and is vital for survival. In this allotrope, two oxygen atoms are held together by a double covalent bond. Oxygen can also exist as ozone, O3, which forms the ozone layer in the Earth’s atmosphere. Red phosphorus is an allotrope of phosphorus. Matches made of red phosphorus are known as safety matches – in order to ignite, it must be struck against the striking surface on the outside of the package.Before the introduction of red phosphorus, the match heads were usually made of white phosphorus – another allotrope of the element.The different colours arise from their different structures! White phosphorus consists of four phosphorus atoms, held together in a tetrahedral arrangement.Other allotropes of phosphorus also exist – black phosphorus and violet phosphorus. Sulfur exists as many allotropes – the one that you’re most likely familiar with is S8, octasulfur, a bright yellow solid. Another solid allotrope of sulfur is hexasulfur, S6. Sulfur can also exist as gaseous allotropes – disulfur, S2, and trisulfur, S3. Allotropism also exists in some metalloid elements and metals. At high altitudes in the earth's atmosphere, monatomic oxygen also exists but is unstable and reacts readily with other species as do all free radicals. Different forms of oxygen in the atmosphere In the gaseous state, oxygen can exist in a number of allotropic forms. • Oxygen radicals O. These radicals (which have six electrons in the valence shell and two of these are unpaired electrons) are very unstable and reactive. When O2 is decomposed by UV light, energised oxygen atoms are formed. They release energy as two electrons unpair to form oxygen radicals. They only exist briefly as they are formed in the upper atmosphere (less than 15 km). • Oxygen molecules O2. This is a very stable, diatomic form of oxygen that is necessary for respiration in all aerobic life forms. • Ozone molecules O3. Ozone is poisonous and a powerful oxidant. It exists only in low concentrations in the troposphere. It readily dissociates into oxygen and energised oxygen atoms.

The topic of allotropes comes up frequently in chemistry. In this video we’ll define the term allotrope, look at examples, and then practice so we can easily recognize allotropes. Here is the formal definition for allotropes: Allotropes are different structural forms of the same element in the same physical state. For example, O2 (g) and O3 (g) are allotropes. They are both made up of only Oxygen atoms, both are gases, but they have different structural formulas. Something like H2O (l) and H2O2 (l) would not be considered allotropes. This is because H2O is made up of more than one type of element. The same reasoning applies to H2O2.
