Street Fighter II: The World Warrior(Japanese:ストリートファイターⅡ -The World Warrior-) is a competitive fighting game originally released for the arcades in 1991. It is the second entry in the Street Fighter series and the arcade sequel to the original Street Fighter released in 1987. It is Capcom's fourteenth title that runs on the CP Systemarcade hardware. Street Fighter II improves upon the many concepts introduced in the first game, including the use of command-based special moves and a six-button configuration, while offering players a selection of multiple playable characters, each with their own unique fighting style, and introducing a combo system and competitive multiplayer combat between two players.
The success of Street Fighter II is credited for starting the fighting game boom during the 1990s which inspired other game developers to produce their own fighting game franchises, popularizing the genre, and setting off a renaissance for the arcadegame industry in the early 1990s. It was then ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment Systemhome console, for which it became a long-lasting system-seller. Its success led to a sub-series of updated versions (see below), each offering additional features and characters over previous versions, as well as several home versions.
Street Fighter II': Champion Edition(Japanese:ストリートファイターIIダッシュ -CHAMPION EDITION-, officially pronounced Street Fighter II Dash in Japan) is a competitive fighting game released for the arcades by Capcom in 1992. It was the first of several updated versions of the original Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. The main changes consisted of the addition of the Grand Masters (the final four computer-controlled opponents in the single-player mode) as playable characters and mirror matches (same character vs. matches). The fighting techniques of the eight main characters from the original game were also further refined to allowed for more balanced competitive play.
The following changes were made from the original World Warrior edition of the game.
Additional playable characters: The four Grand Masters (Balrog, Vega, Sagat, and M. Bison), who were controlled exclusively by the CPU in World Warrior, are now playable characters. The Grand Masters were considerably toned down from the previous iterations, but are still relatively stronger compared to the standard eight fighters.
Street Fighter II: Ryu(ストリートファイターⅡ RYU), simply titled Street Fighter II in its English editions, is a manga series written and drawn by Masaomi Kanzaki that was serialized in the monthly Family Computer Magazine in 1993 and 1994. It is based on the fighting game of the same name and its subsequent iterations. The manga was produced prior to the release of Super Street Fighter II and only features the original twelve "World Warriors".
While far from being the only Street Fighter manga, it was one of the earliest and the first of few that was translated in English. It is notable for featuring the first illustrated appearance of Ryu and Ken's sensei, Gouken.
Plot summary
Ryu and Ken have begun training with the reluctant and mysterious legend Gouken. One night, Ken's friend Cho appears at the dojo in a panic, revealing that he has learned of Bison's organization, Shadaloo, and its current agenda—vicious human experiments revolving around a drug called Doll which effectively brainwashes people, usually for acts of violence. Cho has been followed and falls victim to an attack by Bison and two of his lords of Shadaloo, Vega and Sagat. Naturally, a fight ensues, during which the groups of combatants become separated. After making his way back to the dojo, Ryu finds that Gouken has been left for dead by Bison, and hears his master's final words. Assuming the missing Ken to be dead also, Ryu becomes a lonesome vagabond.
Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, known as Street Fighter II Movie(ストリートファイター II MOVIE,Sutorīto Faitā Tsū Mūbī, not to be confused with the live-action version) in Japan and Australia, is a 1994 animefilm adaptation of the Street Fighter IIfighting game written by Kenichi Imai, directed by Gisaburō Sugii and animated by Group TAC. The film, originally released in Japan on August 8, 1994, was released theatrically in North America, the United Kingdom, France, and Spain, and was adapted into English in dubbed and subtitled format by Animaze for Manga Entertainment. It was also distributed by 20th Century Fox in other countries. Following the film's release, Group TAC later produced a loose adaptation of the Street Fighter II game, the anime series Street Fighter II V.
Plot
In the prologue, a fight between Japanese martial artist Ryu and Muay Thai champion Sagat rages until Ryu severely scars Sagat across the chest with a Shoryuken. As Sagat charges towards Ryu in a rage, Ryu fires a Hadouken at the screen, leaving the battle unattended.
