St Ives, Cornwall - Is This The Prettiest English Town? | UK Travel Vlog
What are the best things to do in St Ives? How do you get to St Ives on the St Earth to St Ives train? Is it one of the best things to do in Cornwall? Is Tehidy Woods the best place to see bluebells in Cornwall? Find out this and so much more in this video!
We started our day in Tehidy woods where we saw the bluebells in bloom and got up close and personal with some squirrels - they’ll even eat out of your hands if you take some food! After this we went to St Ives, but to avoid the traffic we went to St Earth train station and made use of the park and ride into St Ives. The scenic coastal train was gorgeous and when we arrived we got a tasty Cornish pasty. I flew my drone to get some stunning 4k drone footage of St Ives and then we went on a walk along Porthmeor beach (seeing the surfers)...

St Ives, Cornwall (1924)
The harbour and streets of the popular fishing village of St Ives.
This extract comes from Claude Friese-Greene's 'The Open Road' - originally filmed in 1925/6 and now re-edited and digitally restored by the BFI National Archive. Britain seen in colour for the first time was heralded as a great technical advance for the cinema audience - now we can view a much improved image, but one which still stays true to the principles of the colour process.
The rather haphazard journey from Land's End to John O'Groats creates a series of moving picture postcards. Look out for shots containing the component colours - red and blue-green - such as when a little girl in a red coat and hat walks among peacocks in the grounds of a castle, and three girls with red curly hair pose by the sea at Torquay.

Restoring Rosalind, Episode 26.5: Metal Work—Forging and Welding Stem Hardware for a Wooden Boat
Rosalind has some special hardware for her lug rig, something you definitely can't buy at a chandlery. Andrew cuts, fits, and installs a stem band with this special piece of forged hardware, which is called a scud hook. It's special to luggers, and will be an important part of her rigging.
Rosalind, a vernacular working sailboat built in St. Ives by William Paynter, has had a long and well traveled life. She's being rebuilt in Mystic, Connecticut by Andrew Guest, a boatbuilder and restorer who had already been thinking about building a lugger when he found this one destined for the chainsaw in Oxford, Maryland.
I flew my drone to get some stunning 4k drone footage of St Ives and then we went on a walk along Porthmeor beach (seeing the surfers) and up onto the amazing, craggy Hellesveor Cliffs. After a Cornish gin and tonic (lemonade for me!) we had fish and chips watching the sunset before going back to our lodge in Praze-an-Beeble.

The car is a Vauxhall D-type - considered a sporty model at the time. A long-distance journey by car was a relatively new concept, with none of the amenities en route now taken for granted. The visit to a petrol station shows smoking on the forecourt: no health and safety issues back then! The travelogue ends with a series of recognisable London landmarks. Much remains the same - one major exception being the volume of traffic on the roads. (Jan Faull)
