Saint Malachy (Middle Irish:Máel Máedóc Ua Morgair; Modern Irish:Maelmhaedhoc Ó Morgair) (1095– 2 November 1148) was an Irish saint and Archbishop of Armagh, to whom were attributed several miracles and an alleged vision of 112 Popes later attributed to the apocalyptic list of the Prophecy of the Popes. He was the first native born Irish saint to be canonised.
Background
Viking raids on Ireland began around the start of the 9th century. The country was subsequently invaded and occupied; many monasteries were plundered; monks were put to the sword; churches were demolished; and libraries were burned. These disruptions, along with secular impositions by the invaders, produced a decline in Christian religious observance and moral standards established by Saint Patrick and other early missionaries. Apathy towards the Christian virtues increased, and by the 11th century some parts of Ireland had even returned to paganism.
Life
Malachy, whose family name was Ua Morgair, was born in Armagh in 1095. St. Bernard describes him as having noble birth. He was baptised Máel Máedóc (Malachy) and was trained under Imhar O'Hagan, subsequently Abbot of Armagh. Imhar was in sympathy with the aims of those who sought to reform the Irish church, and it was probably through his influence that Malachy became imbued with their principles. After a long course of studies Malachy was ordained priest by St Cellach (Celsus) in 1119.

St. Malachy was the Primate of Ireland around the year 1140. While on a trip to Rome, St. Malachy made a famous series of prophecies about each pope from his time up until the end of the world. Many of the prophesies thus far have proved accurate based on internal evidence alone, making his prophesies widely discussed. His descriptions of each pope have lined up with key characteristics or overarching themes of a pontificate. This book is often associated with Catholic eschatology because there is only one more pope mentioned before the end of the world! Definitely a very interesting read! This book features an Imprimatur.

St. Malachy's Prophesied Last Pope. Is Pope Francis Destined to be 'Peter the Roman' - The Last?
St. Malachy's prophetic list of last 10 popes; where is Francis?
MORE and more people are entering the fold of Apocalypse believers. As in, Apocalypse now. That’s what I had bet on even before the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991. My perception is now even stronger that the Bible’s last book is unfolding, buttressed by mystical developments that include an explosion of supernatural apparitions reviving old prophecies and supplanting them with detailed warnings amid calls for immediate conversion.

Quote from "The Prophecy Of Saint Malachy -
The Soon Coming End of Days"
"The events of 1978 saw the death of Pope Paul VI, the election and unexpected death of John Paul I, and finally the election of John Paul II. Three Popes in one year propelled the world like a runaway train toward the conclusion of a prophecy given by St. Malachy in 1139. The prophecy lists 112 Popes. The last Pope would take the seat of Saint Peter and the world would fall into anarchy. John Paul II was the 110th Pope. The Pope ruling the Holy See today is Benedict XVI, the 111th Pope, and according to the prophecy, the last Pope to rule an intact church and functioning world. The next Pope will not be the Vicar of Christ. He will be the enemy of the church, usurper of the throne and he will be called "Peter of Rome."
The ominous prophecy has echoed through the centuries for over 870 years:
In persecutione extrema S.R.E. sedebit Petrus Romanus, qui pascet oves in multis tribulationibus: quibus transactis civitas septicollis diruetur,
& Judex tremêdus judicabit populum suum. Finis.
(In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term (end) of which the city of seven hills (Rome) will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people.)
Saint Malachy's prophecy foretells the succession of Roman Catholic Popes from Celestine II [1143 AD] to John Paul II's successor, Saint Benedict XVI, who sits in the Chair of Saint Peter today. Malachy wrote that he was describing the pontiffs from Celestine II "...to the end of the world." At the end of the world, Malachy declared that Rome will be destroyed and God will judge his people. Was Malachy a prophet or madman?"
Now, with the resignation of Benedict XVI, we will see the last pope take the throne. Malachy's prophecy is at an end. Will this be Peter of Rome, the pope foretold by the prophecy?
