The Space Shuttle (Narrated by William Shatner)
An idea born in unsettled times becomes a feat of engineering excellence. The most complex machine ever built to bring humans to and from space and eventually construct the next stop on the road to space exploration.

You need a sound system with a lot of power and a great sub (turned up to house shaking level) to get the right effect of this video. I made this for all the people who dreamed of seeing a launch in person but were never able to make the trip themselves.

NASA's Space Shuttle Program
The Space Shuttle facilitated our ability to observe both earth and the universe from low-earth orbit. It is where we learned how to live and work in space and study the effects of microgravity. The shuttle program also changed who could be an astronaut. Have you ever wanted to fly on the Shuttle? What position would you want to have?

- - Created through FAIR USE for educational purposes - - STS-121
You need a sound system with a lot of power and a great sub (turned up to house shaking level) to get the right effect of this video. I made this for all the people who dreamed of seeing a launch in person but were never able to make the trip themselves.
Using dozens of different video sources and countless audio versions of Shuttle launches I mixed this little clip together to mimic as close an experience to the real thing as I could. I know that the exact sequence of countdown events is somewhat compressed and not time-accurate but I was going more for the 'feel' of a high energy launch experience rather than a technical documentary. Throttle Up and SRB Separation are sounds as might be heard from onboard acoustic transducers picking up resonant vibration in the vehicle's structure.
Please take care not to damage your sound equipment during playback. I did not do anything to boost the low frequency roar of the Shuttle during liftoff but the SRB and SSME thrust noise may be taxing to even high quality sub-woofers and speaker cones if played too loud.
For those who sit through the last few frames you can catch a glimpse of my home theater system I built a couple of years ago. This video really is best viewed at 165 inches or better!

The Space Shuttle is made of up of the Orbiter Vehicle, the External Tank, and 2 Solid Rocket Boosters. Missions were launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. There were five orbiters built to travel to space: Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavor. Parts of the space shuttle include Fuselage, Wings, Thermal Protection System, Reaction Control System, and Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSME). The Crew Compartment consists of the Flight Deck, Mid Deck, and the Equipment Bay. Most missions had 7 astronauts on board. When they do an EVA or "Space Walk" they can enter the Air Lock to go out into the Payload Bay. The Remote Manipulator System (RMS), also known as the Canadarm, is used used to move payloads around in space.

A Day at the Intrepid: History, Heroes, and High-Flying Fun!
Why the Intrepid Museum is a Must-Visit for Every New Yorker
Things To Do
Immersive exhibits. Thrilling experiences. Convenient dining and shopping. At the Intrepid Museum, you’ll never run out of exciting things to do.
dynamic exhibitions reveal the stories of the people who made history and the technology that made some of the most extraordinary and historic accomplishments of the 20th century possible.
Put yourself in the cockpit as you experience the exhilaration of virtual flight with our thrilling simulators: G-Force Encounter, XD Theater and the Transporter FX.
Commissioned in 1943, Aircraft Carrier Intrepid survived five Kamikaze attacks and a torpedo strike during WWII. The aircraft carrier later served in the Cold War, Vietnam War and as a NASA recovery vessel.
Legendary aircraft collection reflects some of the greatest achievements in military aviation with five branches of the U.S. armed forces represented: the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, as well as several distinctive aircraft from around the world. From the Avenger torpedo bomber, a stalwart from Intrepid’s WWII service, to the Lockheed A-12, the formidable spy plane from the Cold War, and the very Skyray that flew off Intrepid, this collection is a must-see for all ages.
Space Shuttle Pavilion
Enter the Pavilion through a soundscape featuring real audio from NASA’s mission control and emerge from the entryway to see the space shuttle Enterprise, NASA’s original orbiter that paved the way for the U.S. shuttle program. Walk underneath the orbiter or visit an elevated platform for a dramatic view and explore the intricate space shuttle design, as well as the talent behind the program. Then, see a space-flown Soyuz TMA-6 space capsule and experience space-themed VR and AR experiences.
SUBMARINE GROWLER
As the only American nuclear missile submarine open to the public, Growler offers a firsthand look at life aboard a submarine and the once "top-secret" missile command center with available access as it was used during operations.
Explore the History of a Cold War-Era Submarine
Nuclear-missile submarines prowl the world’s oceans, their crews standing ready for a launch order that they hope will never come. Explore the history and design of Growler, one of America's first nuclear-missile submarines. Historical artifacts, oral histories and immersive experiences offer a behind-the-scenes look at life on board. Then experience the actual submarine Growler!*

📼Video Summary:
There is a long process to getting the Space Shuttle ready to launch! If it lands Vandenburg Air Force Base in California then it will need to be flown across the United States to Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This is done on the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA). All 135 Space Shuttle Launches happened from Florida. There are two launch pads - 39a and 39b. First the space shuttle is taken to the Orbital Processing Facility (OPF) where maintenance takes place. When there's a Rollover to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) which is the Orbiter is lifted up and bolted to the Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB) and External Tank. The Shuttle is on top of the Mobile Launch Platform (MLP) and is then moved by the Crawler Transporter (CT) to one of the two launch pads. The launch pad is made of the Fixed Service Structure (FSS) and Rotating Service Structure (RSS). Other parts of the launch pad include the Orbiter Access Arm (OAA), Gaseous Hydrogen and Oxygen Vent Arms, Tail Service Masts (TSM), Sound Suppression System, and the Flame Trench. The launch involved Lift Off, Roll Program, Max-Q, and Main Engine Cut Off (MECO).
