The Musical Movement We Don't Talk About Enough
In the late 90s, Questlove helped found a collective of musicians and artists including D'Angelo, James Poyser, J Dilla, Erykah Badu, Common, Bilal, and others like Q Tip, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Pino Palladino.
They were dubbed, somewhat accidentally, the "Soulquarians" and this collection of albums is some of the best music ever recorded and has influenced so much music, in completely other genres since.
Today I'm talking all about the Soulquarians, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Common, J Dilla, The Roots etc, diving into specifics of their recording process, some of the albums, their influence since, and how all throughout Questlove knew what he had to do to make it big: build a music scene

The Soulquarians: The Collaboration Between Erykah Badu, Questlove, D’Angelo, and More
In 1998, the neo soul movement was near its peak when a collective of like-minded artists came together to push the wave even higher. They called themselves the Soulquarians, and before the decade ended they’d help birth some of the modern era’s greatest recordings.

Soulquarians Mix Pt. 1 w/ Mr. Slow Jamz | SJR #005 | J. Dilla, D'Angelo, & Common
Slow Jamz Radio is back on the internet, this time we're doing live visual sets from Slow Jamz Gallery. We're continuing where we left off with Episode #005 with a sweet Soulquarians mix by myself, Mr. Slow Jamz. I didn't get a chance to play half of the songs I wanted to, so halfway through my mix I was like "nah yeah, I gotta do a part 2 soon", so that'll come before the year ends. We're looking to give y'all a new themed mix once a month, with guest features & appearances.
Slow Jamz is a lifestyle brand found in Long Beach, CA by Elwood Espiritu in 2017. Essentially "a playlist you can wear", we aim to design products to outwardly share our love for music and connect others together.

Why 'Neo Soul' Ended - Here's Why
https://www.hypeplustv.com/ - In the mid-90s a genre would emerge known as Neo Soul, this style of music would help push artist like Jill Scott, D'angelo, Erykah Badu, Common, Bilal, Lauryn Hill, Q Tip, Music Soul Child, and more to the forefront. In regards to the Questlove/D'Angelo/House of Blues story - there are two versions of this story that Questlove has told. They're both the same, but the song is different. One version features Questlove playing the beat from the song "Four" by Madhouse (a Prince side project). The other, more recent telling of the story is Quest playing in the looser Dilla style. That version of the story is told in his recent interview with Talib Kweli: https://youtu.be/r_nmfs-TgGQ?t=3148
That interview also features Questlove talking about the fact that other groups had music scenes around them, and The Roots didn't.
One other correction: Questlove's moniker doesn't trace back to A Tribe Called Quest. Re-reading through his book, I realize I misunderstood the wording.
