Hamilton was raised in Harlem, New York, Hamilton was exposed to music at an early age. "My mother was an entertainment journalist for the Cleveland Call and Post, so she would take me with her to events when I was just a baby." Hamilton stated his mother always made sure he had an instrument around him. His mother put different kinds of instruments in the basement of their Cleveland home, but he naturally gravitated to the keyboard. Hamilton has stated, "At first, I was just playing the rhythm of the songs I would hear... The older I got, the more proficient I got at hearing the notes." For most of his life, Hamilton was self-taught. Picking up the lead and bass guitar in his teenage years, as well as the drums and harmonica. Hamilton has stated that listening to other genres of music, being exposed to different cultures and experiencing life helped mold his musical sound. Hamilton would leave from his mother's home at the age of 18 & would at times be homeless spending his nights at his friends houses.

Charles Hamilton on J. Cole Diss: There's No Ill Will, He's Dope
http://www.vladtv.com - Charles Hamilton released a track called "It's My World," which was a diss aimed at J. Cole, and the Cleveland-born artist says it was all over a misunderstanding. Hamilton told VladTV, "I was just venting. I misunderstood something he said in an interview and I just went off. It was no malice."
During the conversation DJ Vlad also asked Charles if he thought he would still be in competition with Drake and J. Cole had he maneuvered his career differently. The "NY Raining" artist said that he doesn't regret anything about his career, adding that he's "playing the game the right way now."
Check out more of what he had to say in the above clip.

Got a smile in my heart from you Smile in my heart from you Got a smile in my heart from you that never dies. Got a light in my soul from you Light in my soul that burns true blue Got a light in my soul from you that never dies So the bad's bearin down, Bring it on, the answer I've found Got my own secret weapon, snatching the righteous from the wrong Sunny days come and go Monday waits to try my soul There'll you'll be, knocking down the dominos of woe I know Chorus No more dark days Only summer always No more dark days Always summertime When my faith cries at night Only you summon the light Sending sunrise through my nightmare Simple answers in your smile With the world closin in I just close my eyes and grin There you'll be Rising like the phoenix 'bove the fray you fly Chorus Never wanna be all alone without you
