The Government of Singapore is defined by the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore to mean the Executive branch of government, which is made up of the President and the Cabinet of Singapore. Although the President acts in his personal discretion in the exercise of certain functions as a check on the Cabinet and Parliament of Singapore, his role is largely ceremonial. It is the Cabinet, composed of the Prime Minister and other Ministers appointed on his advice by the President, that generally directs and controls the Government. The Cabinet is formed by the political party that gains a simple majority in each general election.
A statutory board is an autonomous agency of the Government that is established by an Act of Parliament and overseen by a government ministry. Unlike ministries and government departments that are subdivisions of ministries, statutory boards are not staffed by civil servants and have greater independence and flexibility in their operations.
The Singapore dollar or dollar (Malay: Ringgit Singapura, sign: $; code: SGD) is the official currency of Singapore. It is normally abbreviated with the dollar sign $, or alternatively S$ to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. It is divided into 100 cents.
Between 1845 and 1939, Singapore used the Straits dollar.
This was replaced by the Malayan dollar, and, from 1953, the Malaya and British Borneo dollar, which were issued by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Malaya and British Borneo.
Singapore continued to use the common currency upon joining Malaysia in 1963, but only two years after Singapore's expulsion and independence from Malaysia in 1965, the monetary union between Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei broke down.
Singapore established the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore, on 7 April 1967 and issued its first coins and notes. Nevertheless, the Singapore dollar was exchangeable at par with the Malaysian ringgit until 1973, and interchangeability with the Brunei dollar is still maintained.
Pearl smuggler Matt Gordon (Fred MacMurray) finds romance with Linda Grahame (Ava Gardner) just before the start of World War II. He proposes to her, and she accepts. However, when the Japanese attack Singapore, the church where she is waiting to marry him is bombed; Gordon searches frantically in the wreckage, but cannot find her. He is forced to sail away on his schooner.
With the end of the war, Gordon returns after five years and is met by Deputy Commissioner Hewitt (Richard Haydn), who is convinced he has returned for a hidden cache of pearls. So are Gordon's old criminal associates, Mr. Mauribus (Thomas Gomez) and his underling Sascha Barda (George Lloyd). Mauribus offers to buy the pearls, but Gordon denies he has any.

Why are political scandals and corruption in Singapore so rare?

Will the Singapore Government consider delaying the increase in GST? DPM Lawrence Wong responds
At a news conference on Tuesday (Jun 21) announcing a S$1.5 billion support package for Singaporeans amid rising prices, DPM Lawrence Wong was asked if the government will consider delaying the planned GST hike. He said the GST increase was pushed back to as late as possible and that there will be a "very generous offset package" in place. "Essentially for the majority of Singaporean households, they will not feel the impact of the GST increase for at least five years. For the lower-income groups, they will not feel the impact for 10 years," he said.

Singapore government to publish annual report on public sector's sustainability efforts
The government will publish an annual report on its sustainability efforts, starting from the new financial year in April. This is to take the lead in Singapore's decarbonisation journey, and encourage more firms to track and plan towards more sustainable business practices. Other government agencies and statutory boards will follow suit from FY2024. From FY2024, the government will also consider the sustainability practices of firms that they buy from, starting with tenders in construction and infocomm technology, which make up over 60% of government procurement contracts.

A series of political scandals has rocked Singapore in recent weeks, from corruption probes to inappropriate relationships among politicians. These challenges have affected the ruling party as well as the largest opposition party.

The dust from both events had barely settled when members from both the ruling People’s Action Party and the opposition Workers’ Party resigned over “inappropriate relationships.”
Felix Tan, a political analyst in Singapore, explained the brouhaha over the recent scandals: ”[Singapore is] almost a perfect exemplar for all countries to be.
“And when something like this happens, (it shows that) we’re not that perfect. We have built up that reputation. People expect us to keep up with that,” he added.

For the lower-income groups, they will not feel the impact for 10 years," he said.
