The King's Singers are a Britisha cappellavocal ensemble founded in 1968. They are named after King's College in Cambridge, England, where the group was formed by six choral scholars. In the United Kingdom, their popularity peaked in the 1970s and early 1980s. Thereafter they began to reach a wider international audience, appearing frequently on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in the U.S. In 1987, they were prominently featured as guests on the Emmy Award winning ABC-TV special Julie Andrews: The Sound of Christmas.
Today the ensemble travels worldwide for its performances, appearing in around 125 concerts each year, mostly in Europe, the U.S. and the Far East, having recently added the People's Republic of China to their list of touring territories. In recent years the group have had several UK appearances at the Royal Albert Hall Proms and concerts as part of the Three Choirs Festival and the City of London Festival.
History
The group has always consisted of six singers in total, with their membership changing over the years. None of the original members remain. The first stable incarnation of the group, from late 1969 until 1978, comprised:
Simon James Stevenson Smith (born 8 December 1979 in Northumberland) is a Scottish cricketer. A wicketkeeper, Smith is the understudy to his namesake Colin Smith and has appeared in the Intercontinental Cup for Scotland four times. His maiden first-class game was against Ireland in 2004 and the rest came during the 2007 tournament.
From 2007 to 2012 Smith served as Ambassador to Austria, based in Vienna, and as the UK's representative to many UN and international organisations in Vienna, including as the UK's Governor on the Board of the International Atomic Energy Agency. His transfer to Kiev as Ambassador to Ukraine was announced on 13 October 2011 and he took up the appointment in September 2012. He was replaced in 2015 to transfer to another Diplomatic Service appointment.
Personal life
He married Sian Stickings in 1984. She was appointed MBE "for services to the local and British communities in Russia" in the New Year Honours of 2003, following Smith's service in Moscow. They have two daughters.

This anthem - originally written by Harry Dixon Loes as a Christian children's song - became a musical symbol of the civil rights movement in the 1960s and 70s. It's a song that brought people together at that time of challenge and strife, united by its central message of confidence and peace. The arrangement was made by Stacey V. Gibbs for our 'Finding Harmony' album which we released in 2020.

Lyrics:
Guess it’s true
I’m not good
At a one night stand
But I still need love
Cos I’m just a man
These nights never seem to go to plan
I don’t want you to leave
Will you hold my hand
Oh won’t you
Stay with me
Cos you’re
All I need
This aint love
It’s clear to see
But darling
Stay with me
Why am I so emotional?
No it’s not a good look
Gain some self control
Deep down I know this never works
But you can lay with me
So it doesn’t hurt
Oh won’t you
Stay with me
Cos you’re
All I need
This aint love
It’s clear to see

This anthem - originally written by Harry Dixon Loes as a Christian children's song - became a musical symbol of the civil rights movement in the 1960s and 70s. It's a song that brought people together at that time of challenge and strife, united by its central message of confidence and peace. The arrangement was made by Stacey V. Gibbs for our 'Finding Harmony' album which we released in 2020.

Lyrics:
Guess it’s true
I’m not good
At a one night stand
But I still need love
Cos I’m just a man
These nights never seem to go to plan
I don’t want you to leave
Will you hold my hand
Oh won’t you
Stay with me
Cos you’re
All I need
This aint love
It’s clear to see
But darling
Stay with me
Why am I so emotional?
No it’s not a good look
Gain some self control
Deep down I know this never works
But you can lay with me
So it doesn’t hurt
Oh won’t you
Stay with me
Cos you’re
All I need
This aint love
It’s clear to see
But darling
Stay with me
Oh won’t you
Stay with me
Cos you’re
All I need
This aint love
It’s clear to see
But darling
Stay with me

Why do I do, just as you say Why must I just, give you your way Why do I sigh, why don't I try to forget It must have been, That something lovers call fate Kept me saying: "I have to wait" I saw them all, Just couldn't fall 'til we met It had to be you, it had to be you I wandered around, and finally found The somebody who Could make me be true, And could make me be blue And even be glad, just to be sad Thinking of you Some others I've seen, Might never be mean Might never be cross, Or try to be boss But they wouldn't do For nobody else, gave me a thrill With all your faults, I Love you still It had to be you, wonderful you It had to be you
