Siena College was a private, Catholic college located in Memphis, Tennessee. It was established by Dominicannuns in 1922 as St. Agnes College, the first Catholic women's college in the Diocese of Nashville and in the Memphis metro area. Initially, the campus housed a Kindergarten through twelfth grade girls school and the college. It was the first college in Memphis to offer adult evening courses. In 1939, the Saint Agnes Academy moved to a new campus (where it remains), and the name of St. Agnes College was changed to Siena College. The college eventually was moved to its own new campus on Poplar Avenue in 1953 where it was known for excellence in education until it closed in 1972.
Despite not officially merging with another Catholic college in Memphis, Christian Brothers University, CBU did change from being an all-male college to a coeducational institution in 1972. Many Siena students became the first female students at CBU.
Memphis had a population of 653,450 in 2013, making it the largest city in the state of Tennessee, the largest city on the Mississippi River, the third largest in the greater Southeastern United States, and the 23rd largest in the United States.
The greater Memphis metropolitan area, including adjacent counties in Mississippi and Arkansas, had a 2014 population of 1,317,314. This makes Memphis the second-largest metropolitan area in Tennessee, surpassed by metropolitan Nashville.
Memphis is the youngest of Tennessee's major cities, founded in 1819 as a planned city by a group of wealthy Americans including judge John Overton and future president Andrew Jackson. A resident of Memphis is referred to as a Memphian, and the Memphis region is known, particularly to media outlets, as "Memphis & the Mid-South".
"Memphis, Tennessee" is a song by Chuck Berry. It is sometimes shortened to "Memphis". In the UK, the song charted at #6 in 1963, at the same time Decca Records issued a cover version in the UK by Dave Berry and the Cruisers, which also became a UK Top 20 hit single. "Memphis, Tennessee" was most successfully covered by Johnny Rivers whose version of the song was a #2 US hit in 1964.
Chuck Berry later composed a sequel, "Little Marie", which appeared in 1964 as a single and on the album St. Louis to Liverpool.
Siena (Italian pronunciation:[ˈsjɛːna]; in English sometimes spelled Sienna) is a city in Tuscany, Italy. It is the capital of the province of Siena.
The historic centre of Siena has been declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site. It is one of the nation's most visited tourist attractions, with over 163,000 international arrivals in 2008. Siena is famous for its cuisine, art, museums, medieval cityscape and the Palio, a horse race held twice a year.
History
Siena, like other Tuscan hill towns, was first settled in the time of the Etruscans (c. 900–400BC) when it was inhabited by a tribe called the Saina. The Etruscans were an advanced people who changed the face of central Italy through their use of irrigation to reclaim previously unfarmable land, and their custom of building their settlements in well-defended hill forts. A Roman town called Saena Julia was founded at the site in the time of the Emperor Augustus. The first document mentioning it dates from AD 70. Some archaeologists assert that Siena was controlled for a period by a Gaulish tribe called the Senones.

Siena covets another MAAC championship ring
Loudonville, NY - Ed Lewicki and Justin Esquerra both helped Siena win the 2014 MAAC baseball tournament, therefore both already have championship rings. But both senior captains want more.
Lewicki and Esquerra will lead the No. 4 seeded Saints in their title defense at the 2015 MAAC Championships, beginning Wednesday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill. Their opening game will be at 3:30pm against No. 5 seed Monmouth.
"I get asked about (the ring) all the time, especially when I'm home back in Vermont," said Lewicki, a righthanded starting pitcher from Arlington, VT. "If I'm wearing it everyone comes up and wants to see it because they've seen pictures and heard the story. So it's pretty cool."
Esquerra, the third baseman from San Diego, CA, wants to close his college career ...

"We were at an athlete banquet, and we were all wearing it," said Esquerra during Monday's practice on campus. "People were asking to look at it. It was just a pretty cool feeling."
