Sick leave (or paid sick days or sick pay) is time off from work that workers can use to stay home to address their health and safety needs without losing pay. Paid sick leave is a statutory requirement in many nations around the world. Most European, many Latin American, a few African and a few Asian countries have legal requirements for paid sick leave. Already in 1500 BCE, at least some of the workers who built the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs received paid sick leave as well as state-supported health care.
In nations without laws mandating paid sick leave, some employers choose to offer it and others do not. Those that do offer sick leave, do so as a matter of workplace policy or because it is in some or all of the employees' employment contracts or required by a collective bargaining agreement. Currently, only three US states and four US cities have laws mandating paid sick leave. In most US state legislatures there are laws pending that would guarantee paid sick leave.
Brian Grazer and Ron Howard met in 1982 on “Night Shift” with Howard directing and Grazer co-producing. Then followed it up with working on Splash.

Sick leave is job-protected leave, typically unpaid, that is provided to employees where their work absence arises from a personal illness, injury or medical emergency.
Employment standards legislation can vary significantly as to the scope and duration of sick leave, such that it is essential to look at the employment standards legislation of the jurisdiction that governs the employee’s employment.
For example, employees subject to the Ontario Employment Standards Act 2000, those employees, after 2 consecutive weeks of employment, would look to section 50 of the ESA to discern the specifics of unpaid job-protected sick leave of 3 days per calendar year based on one of the qualifying conditions for sick leave, be it (1) personal illness, (2) personal injury, or (3) personal medical emerge...

For example, employees subject to the Ontario Employment Standards Act 2000, those employees, after 2 consecutive weeks of employment, would look to section 50 of the ESA to discern the specifics of unpaid job-protected sick leave of 3 days per calendar year based on one of the qualifying conditions for sick leave, be it (1) personal illness, (2) personal injury, or (3) personal medical emergency.
As for employees subject to the Alberta Employment Standards Code, those employees, after 90 days of employment, would look to section 53.982 of the ESC to discern the specifics of unpaid job-protected sick leave of 5 days per calendar year based simply on it being “for the health of the employee.”
By further comparison, for employees subject to the Canada Labour Code, those employees would look to the 2022 amendment of section 239 of the CLC to discern the specifics of what are now paid job-protected sick leave of up to 10 days per calendar year (with unpaid leave thereafter to a maximum of 27 weeks) for purposes of (1) personal illness or injury; (2) organ or tissue donation; (3) medical appointments during working hours; or (4) quarantine. The specifics of being entitled to 10 paid days of job-protected sick leave are set out in subsection 239(1.2) and (1.21).
Meanwhile, where an employee’s employment contract, including a collective agreement, provides a greater right or benefit than the sick leave standard set out in the applicable employment standards legislation, then the terms of the employment contract apply instead of the legislation.
If the employment contract does not provide a greater right or benefit, then the sick leave provided by the applicable employment standards legislation controls.
It is important that an employee notify their employer that they will be going on sick leave, or where circumstances put them on sick leave, then advising the employer as soon as possible, with the Alberta Employment Standards Code calling for “as much notice as is reasonable and practicable in the circumstances”; and with the Canada Labour Code calling for advance written notice that includes specifics of the sick leave, unless a valid reason exists for not providing such advance written notice whereupon notice of leave must be subsequently provided.

Waiting Sunday, fall apart. Time for all your worries, worried heart. Weekends work begins, time is gone. What was gold, slipped our fingers, moved on. And I worry cause I think there's something wrong with me. Do you feel it? Feel the same? Taking back Sunday is all that we can do or remember days I spent with you. Ignore the evidence. Does anybody know the answer? What went wrong? Where'd the time go? Cause I worry and I think there's something wrong with me again. Do you feel it? Feel the same way? And I'm falling, are you with me? Cause I'm falling down, are you with me?
