A songwriter is an individual who writes the lyrics, melodies and chord progressions for songs, typically for a popular music genre such as pop music or country music. A songwriter can also be called a composer, although the latter term tends to be mainly used for individuals from the classical music genre. The pressure from the music industry to produce popular hits means that songwriting is often an activity for which the task are distributed between a number of people. For example, a songwriter who excels at writing lyrics might be paired with a songwriter with a gift for creating original melodies. Pop songs may be written by group members from the band or by staff writers: songwriters directly employed by music publishers. Some songwriters serve as their own music publishers, while others have outside publishers. In the 2010s, songwriters are no longer dependent on labels to support their music. Technology has advanced to the point where songwriters can record at home with a laptop and a good-quality microphone.
Songwriter is an album by Justin Hayward released in February 1977. Hayward wrote all of the songs and played all of the instruments on the songs "Raised On Love" and "Nostradamus." The album also features musicians Hayward had worked with on his previous project, Blue Jays recorded with John Lodge. These included Jim Cockey on violin, Tom Tompkins on viola, and Tim Tompkins on cello, all members of the band Providence, and Mel Galley on bass, Terry Rowley on guitars, and Dave Holland on drums, all members of the band Trapeze. Ken Freeman played the keyboards. According to the LP liner notes, Hayward's daughter Doremi (born December 1972) sang on "Raised on Love."
It was later rereleased on CD in 1987 with two bonus tracks, "Marie" (originally released as a single in 1979) and "Learning the Game" (a previously unreleased track, written by Buddy Holly).
It was released again on Decca in April 2004 with the additional bonus tracks "Wrong Time, Right Place" and "Heart of Steel" (the B-side of the "Marie" single).
Songwriter is a 1984 film, directed by Alan Rudolph.
The film concerns Doc Jenkins, (Willie Nelson), a country and western composer and the devious tricks he employs to extricate himself from his legal entanglement with a Nashville gangster entrepreneur who takes all the profits from his songs. Fed up with life touring, and making no money from recordings of his music, Doc has turned to managing the career of his old singing partner Blackie Buck, (Kris Kristofferson). Doc takes a further client - a woman singer, Gilda, (Lesley Ann Warren). He wants to get back with his ex-wife Honey (Melinda Dillon). He wants solid ground beneath his feet again.
The film is a satirical comedy about an artist seeking his freedom. The material is loosely based on Willie Nelson's own life, and legend, and finances. His song "Night Life", for example, which he sold in 1961 for $150, went on to be recorded by over 70 artists and sold more than 30 million copies.
The film is reviewed, favourably, by the critic Pauline Kael in her collection of movie reviews, Hooked. "Playing a vain, laid-back sensualist, the silver bearded Kristofferson has a smiling glow; he has never been more at ease; Rip Torn is the pictures insurance against gentility. Everything he says sounds mean and dirty, and even when you can't understand his snarled out words he makes you laugh. Rhonda Dotson has something of Teri Garr's manic alertness and dippiness, too, but in a softer form. She's a romantic comedienne with awesome poise. Richard C. Sarafian has a whomping comic menace. Lesley Ann Warren's Gilda is spectacular. When we first see Gilda, she's a singer with no belief in herself and no class; she's an incredibly beautiful girl in a red dress [but] when Doc grooms her to go out as the opening act for Blackie, she begins to learn something about taste and musicianship, and her voice flowers. Besides being one of the great beauties of the screen, Warren can sing."

The Swedish Pop Wonder S1E6 May The Best Win
In recent years, Swedish songwriters have spit out hits in a way that has astonished the music world. It is more likely that the hit songs you do not get out of the skull are written by Swedes, than they are not. Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, Lady Gaga and many more employ Swedish songwriting power when they want hits. If we talk hits per capita then they are no better country than Sweden. In part 6 we talk about Max Martin, Shellback, Zara Larsson, Shy Martin, Ludwig Göransson, Ilya Salmanzadhe and others. And goes to the bottom with who is the most successful Swedish pop song of all time. Part 6 of 6.

Top 50 Songs Written by Swedish Songwriters & Producers! (so far)
No wonder Sweden is the 3rd largest music exporter in the world! (and the biggest per capita)
This is my Top 50 songs from swedish songwriters/producers: Max Martin, Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub, Shellback, RedOne, Peter Svensson (of The Cardigans), Rickard Göransson (of Carolina Liar), Kristian Lundin, Andreas Carlsson, Mattias Larsson & Robin Fredriksson (aka Mattman & Robin), Oscar Holter, Ali Payami, Alexander Kronlund, Ilya, Tove Lo, Peter Carlsson, Jörgen Elofsson, Pontus Winnberg, Christian Karlsson (aka Bloodshy, ½ Galantis), Henrik Jonback, Kinnda, Avicii & Erik Hassle.
I've chosen to exclude songs from swedish artists, 'cause then it would be impossible to fit all my favorites into a top 50. :)
I hope you'll enjoy!

Hoping to experiment with sounds beyond the context of her country-leaning comfort zone, she enlisted the aid of several outside producers and songwriting partners, including Max Martin, Jeff Bhasker and Shellback.
“Suburbia” is just one more example of the singer’s trademark honesty, a songwriting attribute she’s been cultivating for more than a decade ...Max Martin and Shellback.
