Shell HQ Ecocide Protest
On April 15th, the first day of Extinction Rebellion protests in London, an associated action took place at the Shell Headquarters on the South Bank near the London Eye.
Three activists glued their hands on to the entrance doors of the lobby, while two others climbed onto the glass canopy high up over the entrance. One more sprayed slogans on the wall to the right of the doors. The protesters planned to commit criminal damage worth more than £6000, which although small change for the oil giant, will ensure that they’d be prosecuted in a crown court in front of a jury. Using a punch tool, they also managed to shatter or damage several of the glass doors. The pair on the canopy hung a ‘Stop Ecocide’ banner, sprayed slogans, and dripped thick oily black paint down the walls.

XR activists enter Shell HQ and glue themselves to buildings
Activists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) glued themselves to Shell's London headquarters and a government building on Wednesday (13 April) as part of a week of action demanding an end to all new fossil fuel investments.
This video shows XR activists gluing themselves to a reception desk at Shell and refusing to leave after they demanded a meeting with the head of human resources.
"Hey [Shell] executives...How do you feel, working for Shell? Trouble looking your kids in the eye when you tell them about your job? It's not too late," XR said.

In court, the campaigners hope to present evidence of Shell’s wilful ecological destruction, citing internal documents that show the corporation’s own climate scientist were issuing warnings nearly 40 years ago, which the company has done its best to hide and ignore. They will defend their actions as ‘crimes of conscience’.
We recently interviewed international lawyer Polly Higgins, who is helping island states to amend international law and bring in a new crime of ‘ecocide’. She also spoke of how activists can use a ‘crime of conscience’ defence. Five people were arrested at the scene, but the other two remained on the glass canopy overnight, and came down after 25 hours. As they descended, another highly respected international lawyer, Farhana Yamin (one of the chief negotiators of the Paris Agreement) glued herself to the floor by the front doors, and two other protesters joined her.

From this to his - London’s iconic skyline is constantly changing
This video is about the Millennium Wheel or London Eye, as it is also known, Jubilee Gardens, the Shell building and County Hall, they vividly stand out on the Southbank of the river Thames London, England. Clearly visible from the Houses of Parliament and the embankment we look at the site from the 1990s, to the 2020s, but also with a bonus picture taken by my Dad in the early 1960s
This video highlights the changes and provides some history of the structures and buildings, the change is striking !
We will look at views not only from the North bank of the Thames but also from the ground, Charing Cross railway line, the London Eye and even the Monument in the city of London!

This is the view in 1999 and here it is again in 2022. So much change, the most striking is that the Millennium wheel or London Eye, has been erected but also the shell building is very different, and the park has been landscaped

Security had to protect the board of Shell at the oil giant's annual general meeting as climate protesters rushed the stage amid more than an hour of disruption.
Proceedings which were due to start at 10am did not get underway until well past 11am amid waves of outbursts from activists.
In a tense moment in the meeting, security stepped in to prevent a protester reaching chairman Sir Andrew Mackenzie and other board members on stage.
Protesters were already gathered outside the Excel in London before the meeting started holding signs reading "Welcome to hell", "Your greed is killing humanity" and "Stand with the Pope. Stand up to fossil fuels."
Shortly after the meeting began, a choir of protesters began a song to the tune of Hit The Road Jack, singing: "Go to Hell Shell and don't you come back no more."
