"Shadow Dancing" is an episode from the third season of the science fiction television series Babylon 5.
Synopsis
Captain Sheridan stages a major battle against the forces of the Shadows.
After discerning the Shadows' plans to gather thousands of refugee ships into sector 83 in order to obliterate them all and thus demoralize their opponents, Sheridan and Delenn work to convince their allies to send as many ships as they can for a planned preemptive strike against the Shadows.
Dr. Franklin is still on "Walkabout" following his resignation from his medical duties after admitting to his addiction to stims.
Commander Ivanova is ordered by Sheridan to take the White Star and scout sector 83 before their primary armada arrives. Ivanova has trouble sleeping on the inclined Minbari beds and decides to rip the pillows off of all of them and create a makeshift bed on the floor. However, before she could gain some sleep, Marcus Cole detects the presence of a Shadow scout ship. The White Star is detected by the enemy ship and Ivanova is forced to pursue the ship and destroy it. The White Star incurs heavy damage, its engines disabled. As the automatic repair systems kick in, a massive Shadow armada emerges from hyperspace en route to the primary target. Risking detection from the enemy fleet, Marcus sends the signal to their own fleet to jump out of hyperspace.
"Shadow Dancing" is a disco song performed by English singer-songwriter Andy Gibb that reached number one for seven weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. Albhy Galuten (who also produced this song) arranged the song with Barry Gibb. While Andy Gibb would have three more Top 10 hits in the U.S., this would be his final chart-topping hit in America. The song became a platinum record.
Song development
The song was written by Andy and his brothers (Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb) in Los Angeles, while the trio of brothers were working on the film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. "And one night," Andy would recall, "while we were relaxing, we sat down and we had to start getting tracks together for the album" (also titled Shadow Dancing, which would eventually hit #7 on the U.S. album charts). "So we literally sat down and in ten minutes, we had a group going, (singing) the chorus part. As it says underneath the song, we all wrote it, the four of us."
Release
According to Billboard's Book Of Number One Hits, Gibb became the first solo artist in the history of the U.S. pop charts to have his first three singles hit the number-one spot. Additionally, "Shadow Dancing" was listed by Billboard as being the number one single of 1978. In addition the song peaked at number eleven on the soul chart and sold 2.5 million copies in the United States alone. Its two B-sides "Let It Be Me" appeared on US version and "Too Many Looks In Your Eyes" was from his previous album Flowing Rivers.

Additionally, "Shadow Dancing" was listed by Billboard as being the number one single of 1978. The song peaked at number eleven on the soul chart[3] and sold 2.5 million copies in the United States alone.[4] Its two B-sides "Let It Be Me" appeared on the US version and "Too Many Looks In Your Eyes" was from his previous album Flowing Rivers.
In July that year, Gibb performed "Shadow Dancing" at the Jai-Alai Fronton Studios in Miami, when Barry, Robin and Maurice unexpectedly joined him on stage, and sang this song with him. It was the first time that all four brothers performed together in concert.

Andy Gibb ~ Shadow Dancing 1978 Disco Purrfection Version
Forty one years ago on April 15, 1978, Andy Gibb released his biggest hit ever, "Shadow Dancing" that spent seven weeks at #1. I remember the first time I heard Andy Gibb singing "I Just Want To Be Your Everything" and it remains a high point for me from the summer of 1977. The opening fanfare of the single is instantly recognizable and it fades just as Andy begins to vocalize. It spent four weeks at #1 and then the Bee Gees spectacular run of hits dominated the summer of 1978 and in the middle of that summer came Andy's biggest hit, "Shadow Dancing" that made him an icon in his own right. Well, when "Shadow Dancing" hit #1 Andy became the first solo artist in the history of charted music to have had his first three singles become #1 hits. He was the golden boy! He had written the song wi...

He had written the song with his brothers who were working on the Sgt Pepper movie. Did you know that Joe Walsh and Don Felder both played on the record and the producers had secured the talents of the same string musicians who did the strings on LP "Hotel California" for the Eagles to play on the recording of "Shadow Dancing". And the strings are amazing, hypnotizing, perfectly adding texture and a slightly un-balancing feel. His popularity chartwise allowed him to secure three more top 10 hits, "An Everlasting Love" #5, "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away" #9 and then "Desire" #4. His duet with Olivia Newton John "I Can't Help It" peaked at #12, then his duet with Victoria Principal a cover of the Everly Brothers chestnut "All I Have To Do Is Dream" #51. He acted and sang in "The Pirates Of Penzance" revival in the US and Canada. TV show Solid Gold brought him on as a host in 81 amd Gibb left the following year. In 1988, we all were shocked to hear that Andy passed on March 10. I mean he was so young and I knew he was going through some shit in a very public way, but I never figured his death would be sooner than later. At the time Andy was ready to record again and while in the studio, suffered severe abdominal pains and went to emergency. It turned out it was an inflammatory heart virus that killed him. It was an early end to a spectacular life that should have allowed him to live much longer, but as they say the brightest stars often burn out the quickest. After his death, Maurice resumed his heavy drinking as a way to deal with his brother's death and the Bee Gees recorded a tribute to Andy called "Wish You Were Here" the following year. The group returned to touring, but Barry's chronic back pain and arthritis limited the length of their tours.

"Shadow Dancing" is a disco song performed by English singer-songwriter Andy Gibb that reached number one for seven weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. Albhy Galuten (who also produced this song) arranged the song with Barry Gibb. While Andy Gibb would have three more Top 10 hits in the U.S., this would be his final chart-topping hit in the United States. The song became a platinum record.
According to Billboard's Book Of Number One Hits, Gibb became the first solo artist in the history of the U.S. pop charts to have his first three singles hit the number-one spot. It remained in the top spot for seven straight weeks from 17 June to 29 July 1978. On 5 August it was replaced by The Rolling Stones with their hit "Miss You." Additionally, "Shadow Dancing" was listed by Billboard as being the number one single of 1978.
