Why Do All Superheroes Need Secret Identities?
Throughout the history of superheroes secret Identities were a core staple of the genre. Clark Kent and Superman, Bruce Wayne and Batman, and Peter Parker and Spider-Man, but in today's modern superhero landscape all that has fallen by the wayside. The MCU has effectively done away with the concept of the 'secret identity'. So, now that that core idea is being phased out... what does that mean for the genre as a whole? Will it survive another hundred years without this element? Only time will tell.

Biden's Secret Identity Exposed In Newly Uncovered Email
Joe Biden unmasked as . . . Robert L. Peters? House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (KY-1) asked the National Archives (NARA) to release unredacted emails between President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden concerning their ties to Ukraine and Burisma. The emails also date back to when President Biden served as Vice President under President Obama and feature the use of Joe Biden’s pseudonyms, such as “Robert L. Peters” and “Robin Ware.” Even though Biden claimed “an absolute wall” separated his vice presidential duties from his foreign business dealings, the incriminating emails could suggest otherwise. The emails could also reveal more about Hunter's laptop and other misconduct. Will these released emails expose more Deep State government corruption or cover-ups?

NYCC '09 Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology panel clip 2
Secret Identities editor-in-chief Jeff Yang describes how the editorial staff made the call to anyone--whether they were professionals or not--to submit story ideas to the anthology. He admits that he wishes there were more Southeast Asian voices in the novel.
SI co-editor Keith Chow says the number one criterion for choosing a story to include in the anthology was that it had to be good.
Moderator Anne Ishii asks the panelists about critics' initial skepticism over the project. Writer Greg Pak says he doesn't like being pressured to do stories about positive Asian role models and prefers to create flawed heroes. He feels that critics' demands for positive role models are reminiscent of how some African American critics would blast Spike Lee for not properly representing the black ...

NYCC '09 Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology panel clip 3
Panel moderator Anne Ishii and Secret Identities editor-in-chief Jeff Yang discuss their frustrations with both the media's hypersexualized portrayals of Asian women--which are criticized and mocked by the stories in the novel's "Girl Power" section--and the dweeby, not-exactly-masculine stereotype of Asian men. Jeff jokes he is that stereotype.
Co-editor Keith Chow notes the irony in using the sexed-up superhero genre to comment on distorted depictions of Asians.
Writer Greg Pak praises the diverse portrayals of heroes in SI.

(The reason why the camera alternates between a white audience member on the left side of the room and a black female audience member on the right side is because before the footage shown here, the woman was visibly offended by the guy referring to the Asian American community as "homogeneous" during his question to the panelists. This clip begins in the middle of the panelists' responses to the question, as SI contributor Greg Pak describes how the novel will serve as a launching pad for many new Asian American characters, whom SI editor-in-...

He feels that critics' demands for positive role models are reminiscent of how some African American critics would blast Spike Lee for not properly representing the black community in his earlier Spike Lee joints.
Footage shot by SI contributor Jimmy J. Aquino. Edited by Thelma Schoonmaker.

Footage shot by SI contributor Jimmy J. Aquino. Music composed and conducted by a Javits Center air vent.

Secret Identities co-editor Keith Chow addresses the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie casting controversy, the lack of screen acting opportunities for Asian Americans and the merits--and limitations--of colorblind casting (Tracy Morgan as Frodo?).
(The reason why the camera alternates between a white audience member on the left side of the room and a black female audience member on the right side is because before the footage shown here, the woman was visibly offended by the guy referring to the Asian American community as "homogeneous" during his question to the panelists. This clip begins in the middle of the panelists' responses to the question, as SI contributor Greg Pak describes how the novel will serve as a launching pad for many new Asian American characters, whom SI editor-in-chief Jeff Yang jokes will all be played by white actors in the movie versions--a jab at the forthcoming live-action Avatar film.)
Footage shot by SI contributor Jimmy J. Aquino. Wardrobe by Giorgio Armani. Written by David Mamet.
