Political blooper: MP's Scottish accent baffles British parliamentarian
Members of the British parliament broke into laughter on October 18 when New-Zealand born Tory MP, Paul Beresford, visibly struggled to understand his Scottish colleague who was speaking with an accent.
Beresford initially apologized to Scottish National Party's (SNP) David Linden before asking him to repeat his question. But after a second attempt he sheepishly suggested Linden speak more slowly.
After two failed attempts in the miscommunication, Deputy Speaker, Lindsay Hoyle, suggested they resolve the matter by letter.

Who Are The Scots?
A brief history of the origin of the Scots ethnic group and its changes over time.
Gaelic names are pronounced in OLD GAELIC. This is to show the clear link between the English version of names and their Old Gaelic origins. Modern Gaelic has changed in its pronunciation, modern Irish to an even greater degree.
Also note that there is no intent to promote a "pure" Scot, but to demonstrate the core origins and original language. Ethnicity is an evolving thing, as the video shows.

Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation if your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

The Gaels of Cape Breton
Shows Scottish settlers in the Highlands of Cape Breton, much like the Highlands of Scotland. Small flocks of sheep like the crofters of the old country wander on the hills and provide wool for spinning and weaving, while the plain-spired churches and the only Gaelic College in the world keep alive the faith brought from other highlands across the sea. Gaelic language is heard in the church, singing in community and casual exchanges between passers-by.

Celtic languages without accent (languages comparison)
This short video demonstrates what Celtic languages should actually sound like. Many students of these languages (most of all Irish and Breton) do not pay enough attention to pronunciation. This video is just another reminder of how these languages sounded among native speakers.
And of course, let’s not forget how beautiful and diverse the Celtic languages are!
This video presents all 6 existing Celtic languages - Welsh, Cornish, Breton, Irish, Manx and Scottish Gaelic!
This video was actually inspired by ilovelanguages
Episodes:
00:11 - Irish (Gaeilge)
01:15 - Breton (Brezhoneg)
02:44 - Welsh (Cymraeg)
03:29 - Scottish gaelic (Gàidhlig)

Description: Canadian Gaelic or Cape Breton Gaelic , known in English as often simply Gaelic, refers to the dialects of Scottish Gaelic spoken by people in Atlantic Canada who have their origins in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. While there have been many different regional dialects of Scottish Gaelic that have been spoken in communities across Canada, Atlantic Canada is the only area in North America where Gaelic continues to be spoken as a community language, especially in Cape Breton. All of these dialects had their origins in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, although some have become effectively dormant since the time of emigration. Even in Cape Breton, the situation of the language is precarious.Scottish Gaels settled in Nova Scotia commencing in 1773 with the arrival of the Ship Hector and continuing up until the 1850s. Gaelic has been spoken for 241 years in Nova Scotia: on Cape Breton Island and on the northeastern Nova Scotia mainland. During the early 1900s, the Gaelic language was nearly wiped out in Canadian schools, due to the increasing pressure of the commonwealth English monarchy, who had previously exiled many Scots during earlier years of conflict. The Gaelic language was forbidden to be spoken in schools. The Gaelic cultural identity community is a vibrant part of Nova Scotia's diverse peoples and communities. Thousands of Nova Scotians attend Gaelic-related activities and events annually including: language workshops and immersions, milling frolics, square dances, fiddle and piping sessions, concerts and festivals. Up until about the turn of the 20th century, Gaelic was widely spoken on eastern Prince Edward Island . In the 2011 Canadian Census, 10 individuals in PEI cited that their mother tongue was a Gaelic language, with over 90 claiming to speak a Gaelic language. Gaels, their language and culture have influenced the heritage of Glengarry County and other regions in present-day Ontario, where many Highland Scots settled commencing in the 18th century, and to a much lesser extent the provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador , Manitoba and
Alberta. Gaelic-speaking poets in communities across Canada have produced a large and significant branch of Gaelic literature comparable to that of Scotland itself.Having its origins in Scotland, the Scottish Gaelic language is similar to, but should not be confused with, the Irish language in Newfoundland. At its peak in the mid-19th century, Scottish Gaelic, considered together with the closely related Newfoundland Irish, was the third most spoken language in Canada after English and French. In Atlantic Canada today, there are currently approximately 2,000 speakers, mainly in Nova Scotia. In terms of the total number of speakers in the 2011 census, there were 7,195 total speakers of "Gaelic languages" in Canada, with 1,365 in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island where the responses mainly refer to Scottish Gaelic. The 2011 census also reported that over 300 residents of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island considered a Gaelic language to be their "mother tongue".
