Murray won the Scottish Youth Cup with Kilmarnock in 2004 before being released shortly after. Dundee manager Jim Duffy then signed Murray on a 2-year contract. He made his first team debut against Airdrie in the Scottish Challenge Cup saving two penalties in the penalty shoot-out at the end of the game to send Dundee through to the next round.
He went on to make 25 league and cup appearances for the Dens Park side in the 2005–06 season, winning Young Player of the Month for January 2006. He signed a new 2-year contract in February 2006, while keeping five clean sheets in a row. Scott also represented Scotland at U16, U17 and U19 level.
He left Dundee in August 2007 despite having a year left remaining on his contract, opting to sign for Billy Stark at Queen's Park. On 6 September 2008, Murray signed an amateur contract with Partick Thistle.
Murray also coached at Queen's Park, and ran a coaching programme in Lenzie.
Scott Murray (born 15 January 1976 in Musselburgh) is a rugby union player who played at lock for Scotland and currently plays for French Pro D2 team Stade Montois. He was at one time the record caps holder for Scotland having represented them on 87 occasions, five of which as captain and playing at three World Cups. He has also toured with the Lions and won Scotland player of the season three times.

Club career
Born in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, and a product of the Scottish Highland Football League, Murray started his professional football career at his local Highland League club Fraserbugh FC, where he played for the first-team for four years, and impressive performances lead to trials from Celtic and Liverpool. However, Murray was not made a permanent signing with these clubs, but then Premier League side Aston Villa stepped in, and after scoring the quickest ever hat-trick in the Premiership Reserve League, with his three strikes coming inside the first 12 minutes, Villa paid Fraserburgh £35,000 (at the time, the biggest fee received by a Highland League Club for a transfer) for his services.
However, during his three years at Villa Park, Murray failed to make a big impression and made only 4 league appearances in this time.
