Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain
The Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain was the process, from the mid 5th to early 7th centuries, by which the coastal lowlands of Britain developed from a Romano-British to a Germanic culture following the Roman withdrawal in the early 5th century. The traditional view of the process has assumed an invasion of several Germanic peoples, later collectively referred to as Anglo-Saxons, from the western coasts of continental Europe, followed by the establishment of Anglo-Saxon kingdoms across most of what is now England and parts of lowland Scotland. The arrival of a Germanic element in the history of Britain is also called the Advent of the Saxons (Latin: Adventus Saxonum), a term first used by Bede in about 731.
The assumption that the Anglo-Saxon settlement developed from the invasion or migration of people from the Germanic coastlands, largely displacing the native people, has been challenged by those suggesting that the changes in material culture and language were caused primarily by a process of acculturation that followed the movement of a relatively small number of people. Some writers have also argued that the influence of Germanic peoples and culture was already present in eastern regions of pre-Roman Britain. The view that the Anglo-Saxons arose from insular changes and developments, rather than as a result of mass migration and displacement, is now widely accepted. However, the extent to which incomers displaced or supplanted the existing inhabitants and the extent to which mutual acculturation occurred is still the subject of ongoing debate. At the centre of this debate is the creation of an acceptable model for cultural and linguistic change, as there are few historical or contemporary sources relating to the anglicisation of lowland Britain. The sources that do exist are open to a variety of interpretations, as is the more recently available evidence largely derived from archaeology and genetic research.

Trousers
Trousers (pants in North America) are an item of clothing worn from the waist to the ankles, covering both legs separately (rather than with cloth extending across both legs as in robes, skirts, and dresses).
In the UK the word "pants" generally means underwear and not trousers.Shorts are similar to trousers, but with legs that come down only to around the area of the knee, higher or lower depending on the style of the garment. To distinguish them from shorts, trousers may be called "long trousers" in certain contexts such as school uniform, where tailored shorts may be called "short trousers", especially in the UK.
In most of the Western world, trousers have been worn since ancient times and throughout the Medieval period, becoming the most common form of lower-body clothing for adult males in the modern world, although shorts are also widely worn, and kilts and other garments may be worn in various regions and cultures. Breeches were worn instead of trousers in early modern Europe by some men in higher classes of society. Since the mid-20th century, trousers have increasingly been worn by women as well. Jeans, made of denim, are a form of trousers for casual wear, now widely worn all over the world by both sexes. Shorts are often preferred in hot weather or for some sports and also often by children and teenagers. Trousers are worn on the hips or waist and may be held up by their own fastenings, a belt or suspenders (braces). Leggings are form-fitting trousers, of a clingy material, often knitted cotton and spandex (elastane).

Saxon (album)
Saxon is the debut studio album by the English heavy metal band Saxon, released in 1979 (see 1979 in music).
Reception
Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic gave the album three stars out of five, and, in his mixed review, described it as "the quiet before the storm", and also criticised the band's then-lack of experience in the studio as well as their record label, Carrere, for not knowing "how to capture a heavy metal sound on tape", meaning that the album "only hints at Saxon's true personality, power, and songwriting potential". He also said that the progressive rock sounding "Rainbow Theme"/"Frozen Rainbow" and glam rock sounding "Big Teaser" and "Still Fit to Boogie", "suggested some lingering doubts as to musical direction", but that, overall, "the LP helped to put Saxon on the map".

Saxon (automobile)
The Saxon was an automobile produced by the Saxon Motor Car Company, from 1913 to 1923. The company was based in Detroit and then Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Originally, in 1913, Saxon offered a small two seat roadster, that featured either a 2- or 3-speed rear axle gearbox, priced at $395.00. It had headlights, as an extra option. In 1915, electric lighting was standard.
Also available in 1915 was the Saxon Six, a five-passenger tourer, with a 30-35 hp (22-26 kW) six, electric starter and headlights, on a 112 in (2845 mm) wheelbase and 32×3½-inch (81×8.9 cm) wheels, all for US$785.
In its peak year of 1916, 27,800 Saxons were produced. After 1921, later models were known as the Saxon-Duplex. The last Saxon cars were sold in 1923.

The Anglo-Saxons in Britain
For over 600 years the Anglo-Saxons were settled in Britain replacing many of the Roman stone buildings with new buildings of their own. At the same time they brought Christianity to the country. The reign of the Anglo-Saxons came to an end in 1066 but they will be remembered not only for the vast political change they brought with them but for the amazing craftmanship and ornate artifacts and Jewellery that they left behind. They certainly earned their place in history !!

In this video, we look at the archaeological evidence for the Anglo-Saxon arrival into Britain. The evidence points towards a world that is infinitely more complicated than the stories make it out to be, as we go over how a unique mixture of geographical luck, economic circumstance, and human behaviour created the perfect storm for the Romano-Celtic ideas of Eastern Britain to be totally uprooted. The Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain was the process, from the mid 5th to early 7th centuries, by which the language and culture of most of England were transformed from Romano-British to Germanic, following the Roman withdrawal in the early 5th century.The traditional view of the process has assumed an invasion of several Germanic peoples, later collectively referred to as Anglo-Saxons, from the western coasts of continental Europe, followed by the establishment of Anglo-Saxon kingdoms across most of England and parts of lowland Scotland.The assumption that the Anglo-Saxon settlement developed from the invasion and mass-migration of people from the Germanic coastlands, largely displacing the native people, has been challenged by those suggesting that the changes in material culture and language were caused primarily by a process of acculturation that followed the movement of a relatively small number of people.Some writers have also argued that the influence of Germanic peoples and culture was already present in eastern regions of pre-Roman Britain.

It begins with the legend of Hengist and Horsa, through the Northumbrian Golden Age all the way to the end of the Mercian supremacy in the wake of Offa's death.
Recommended books:
Chris Wickham - The Inheritance of Rome (2010) - A very good overview of all of European history, good for context.
James Campbell et al. - The Anglo-Saxons (1991) - Seriously, this book is the best book I've ever seen on Anglo-Saxon England, its very accessible and the essays are phenomenal.
If you have access to a university library I'd recommend a read through Dorothy Whitelock's English Historical Sources 500-1042.
Ten Minute English and British History is a series of short, ten minute animated narrative documentaries that are designed as revision refreshers or simple introductions to a topic. Please note that these are not meant to be comprehensive and there's a lot of stuff I couldn't fit into the episodes that I would have liked to. In this video, we look at the archaeological evidence for the Anglo-Saxon arrival into Britain. The evidence points towards a world that is infinitely more complicated than the stories make it out to be, as we go over how a unique mixture of geographical luck, economic circumstance, and human behaviour created the perfect storm for the Romano-Celtic ideas of Eastern Britain to be totally uprooted.
Instead of being part of an army, the individuals who came were immigrants from all over the Germanic world, seeking land to improve their personal circumstance. The vast majority of them couldn't even afford a sword. Hengist and Horsa and the stories we know of them conquering Britain should, I argue, be seen as propaganda to explain a circumstance that even we struggle to understand.
This topic is incredibly difficult to summarise as I have done here, and it is an explanation that a lot of people won't be fans of. But the truth is that culture and identity in early fifth century Britain was constantly being redefined, and the concept of Anglo-Saxon, while useful in general terms, doesn't hold up to much scrutiny.

The Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain was the process, from the mid 5th to early 7th centuries, by which the coastal lowlands of Britain developed from a Romano-British to a Germanic culture following the Roman withdrawal in the early 5th century. The traditional view of the process has assumed an invasion of several Germanic peoples, later collectively referred to as Anglo-Saxons, from the western coasts of continental Europe, followed by the establishment of Anglo-Saxon kingdoms across most of what is now England and parts of lowland Scotland. The arrival of a Germanic element in the history of Britain is also called the Advent of the Saxons (Latin: Adventus Saxonum), a term first used by Bede in about 731.
The assumption that the Anglo-Saxon settlement developed from the invasion or migration of people from the Germanic coastlands, largely displacing the native people, has been challenged by those suggesting that the changes in material culture and language were caused primarily by a process of acculturation that followed the movement of a relatively small number of people. Some writers have also argued that the influence of Germanic peoples and culture was already present in eastern regions of pre-Roman Britain. The view that the Anglo-Saxons arose from insular changes and developments, rather than as a result of mass migration and displacement, is now widely accepted. However, the extent to which incomers displaced or supplanted the existing inhabitants and the extent to which mutual acculturation occurred is still the subject of ongoing debate. At the centre of this debate is the creation of an acceptable model for cultural and linguistic change, as there are few historical or contemporary sources relating to the anglicisation of lowland Britain. The sources that do exist are open to a variety of interpretations, as is the more recently available evidence largely derived from archaeology and genetic research.
