"Wooly Bully" was the band's first and biggest hit. It became a worldwide success, selling three million copies and reaching No. 2 on the American Hot 100 chart on June 5–12, 1965, kept off the top by The Beach Boys' "Help Me, Rhonda" and The Supremes' "Back in My Arms Again". "Wooly Bully" went to No. 31 on the Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart. The song also reached No. 2 on the Canadian CHUM Charts. The song was the first American record to sell a million copies during the British Invasion and was influenced by the British rock sound which was mixed with traditional Mexican-American conjunto rhythms. It stayed in the Hot 100 for 18 weeks, the longest time for any song in 1965, and was nominated for a Grammy Award. It was named Billboard's number-one song of the year despite never reaching No. 1 on a weekly Hot 100; this feat was achieved again by Faith Hill's "Breathe" in 2000, Lifehouse's "Hanging by a Moment" in 2001 and Dua Lipa's "Levitating" in 2021 (all four hits peaked at #2). On August 5, 1965, the single was certified as gold by the RIAA. It was later included on the band's 1965 album Wooly Bully, MGM SE4297.

I remember Li'l Red Riding Hood" as a giant hit from the summer of 1966. There are only a few videos of Sam the Sham performing this one, so I am posting it for historical purposes. This is from a TV performance where he performed two songs that were very abbreviated versions. This one has been filled out so it contains more of his time on camera. Betty Boop was not my idea, it was added long ago and far away. Read more interesting info about the song and its history over at Puget Sound Media: https://qzvx.com/2020/12/12/jukebox-gem-sam-the-sham-the-pharaohs/

Filthy Secrets of the Egyptian Pharaohs
In the land of pyramids and timeless sand dunes, where the Nile flows like a life-giving artery, the Pharaohs once held sway with absolute authority. From the Old Kingdom's founding around 2700 BC to the reign of Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator, the last pharaoh, in the dawn of the first century BC, these divine sovereigns ruled with an iron fist cloaked in gold. But behind the grandeur of the pyramids and the allure of golden sarcophagi, lay a darker reality.
Pharaohs were not just rulers; they were considered living gods, the embodiment of Horus, and this divine status often led to a disturbing abuse of power. Many practiced inbreeding, marrying their siblings to keep the bloodline pure and the power within the family. Rituals of death were equally as haunting, with human sacrifices offer...

Rituals of death were equally as haunting, with human sacrifices offered to appease the gods, ensure the Pharaoh's safe journey into the afterlife, or even to serve him in death.
And then, there were the harems. Not just a collection of wives, concubines, and female attendants for the pharaoh's pleasure, but a powerful institution in itself, sometimes even a political battleground, where women could exert influence and vie for power.
One of the most infamous pharaohs, Akhenaten, upended the entire Egyptian religious system, inciting chaos and confusion. Yet, in all their actions, they were guided by a belief best summed up by the Greek philosopher Heraclitus: "Character is destiny." Their decisions, however shocking they might seem to us today, were consistent with their divine character and the destiny they believed it promised.
Join us as we delve into the shadowy corners of ancient Egypt, unearthing the chilling rituals, power abuses, and inbreeding that were woven into the tapestry of the Pharaohs' rule. Welcome to the diary of Julius Caesar.
Secrets of the Afterlife. Decoding the Opulence of Ancient Egyptian Royal Tombs.
Throughout the sands of time, ancient Egypt's grandiose tombs and burial rituals have captured the imagination of historians, archaeologists, and enthusiasts alike. The Pharaohs of ancient Egypt believed that their afterlife journey required the same luxuries and grandeur as their earthly existence. Consequently, they constructed magnificent tombs, filled with treasures and precious artifacts, to accompany them in the eternal realm.
The Great Pyramid of Giza, built for Pharaoh Khufu (2589-2566 BCE), is one of the most iconic and enduring symbols of ancient Egyptian civilization. As the oldest and largest of the three pyramids on the Giza Plateau, it stands as a testament to the engineering prowess and wealth of the Old Kingdom. Khufu's pyramid was originally covered with polished white limestone, which must have shimmered like a gemstone under the Egyptian sun. Inside the pyramid, the pharaoh's chamber was protected by a series of passageways and granite blocks, designed to deter tomb raiders and safeguard the pharaoh's journey to the afterlife.
While the Great Pyramid of Giza remains an architectural marvel, the tomb of Tutankhamun, a relatively minor pharaoh who ruled from 1332-1323 BCE, is renowned for its dazzling riches. Discovered in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter, King Tut's tomb was found remarkably intact, with over 5,000 artifacts. Among the priceless treasures was Tutankhamun's death mask, crafted from solid gold and adorned with precious stones, which has become an emblem of ancient Egypt's splendor.
The ancient Egyptians believed that preserving the body was essential for the soul's journey to the afterlife. Thus, they developed a complex process of mummification to ensure the deceased's eternal existence. The mummification process involved the removal of internal organs, treating the body with preservative chemicals, and wrapping it in layers of linen. This process could take up to 70 days, during which time priests would perform rituals to ensure the deceased's safe passage.
