1992 SEC Championship Game

The 1992 SEC Championship Game was played on December 5, 1992 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) was the first conference in college football to host a post-season conference championship game, and the 1992 game was the first time the SEC Championship Game was held. The inaugural match-up determined the 1992 SEC football champion. The Alabama Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama, winners of the SEC Western Division, defeated the Florida Gators of the University of Florida, who won the SEC Eastern Division, by a score of 28-21.

Following the game, undefeated Alabama advanced to the Sugar Bowl, where the Crimson Tide defeated the Miami Hurricanes to win the Crimson Tide's 12th national championship. Florida received an invitation to play in the Gator Bowl, where the Gators defeated the North Carolina State Wolfpack.

Game summary

The Florida Gators scored first, on a five-yard touchdown reception by Errict Rhett to take a 7–0 lead in the first quarter. The Crimson Tide responded by scoring the next 21 points. The Tide's first points came later in the first quarter on a Derrick Lassic 3-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7–7. In the second quarter, Curtis Brown would score on a 30-yard touchdown reception from Jay Barker to take a 14–7 lead at the half.

2001 SEC Championship Game

The 2001 SEC Championship Game was won by the LSU Tigers 31-20 over the Tennessee Volunteers. The game was played in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia on December 8, 2001 and was televised to a national audience on CBS. 2011 SEC Championship Game

The 2011 SEC Championship Game was played on December 3, 2011, in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia, and determined the 2011 football champion of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The game featured the Georgia Bulldogs of the Eastern division against the LSU Tigers of the Western division. LSU (the Western division champion) was the designated "home team". This was Georgia's 4th SEC Championship Game and LSU's 5th, and the 3rd time these two teams met in this game. LSU defeated Georgia in 2003 and Georgia defeated LSU in 2005.

LSU defeated Georgia in the 2011 SEC championship game 42–10. The game's MVP was LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu. The game was televised by CBS Sports, for the eleventh straight season.

LSU moved to 4–1 in SEC Championship Games and Georgia to 2–2.

The SEC Championship Game (officially The SEC Championship on CBS presented by Dr Pepper for broadcast and sponsorship purposes) is an annual game that has determined the Southeastern Conference's football season champion since 1992. The championship game pits the SEC Western Division regular season champion against the Eastern Division regular season champion and is typically played after the conclusion of the regular season on the first Saturday of December. Ten of the fourteen current SEC members have played in the SEC Championship Game. Kentucky and Vanderbilt have yet to reach the game from the East, while Ole Miss and Texas A&M have yet to reach the game from the West. The overall series between both divisions is led by the Western Division, 13–11..

While ten SEC members have played in the game, only six have won: Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee of the Eastern Division, and Alabama, Auburn, and LSU of the Western Division. Each of these teams has won the championship multiple times. Alabama is the current SEC champion.
