Ronald "Ronnie" Vannucci, Jr. (born February 15, 1976) is the drummer for the American rock band The Killers. He is also involved in a side project called Big Talk.
Early life
Vannucci was born in Las Vegas to an American couple with Italian, French and German ancestry. He began drumming at the age of 6. He was a part of his junior high school's jazz ensemble and later attended both Clark and Western High Schools. Vannucci played in various local bands. His first band was Purple Dirt.
Vannucci drummed for several local bands including Ska-Punk band Attaboy Skip who enjoyed regional success in the mid 1990s and featured Brandon Campbell; Free Food, a cover band who played at prisons and homeless shelters in the Las Vegas area; and Expert On October, a band that also included Ted Sablay and Taylor Milne.
Career
The Killers (2002-present)
Vannucci studied Classical percussion at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) whilst also was working as a photographer at Chapel of the Flowers, a wedding chapel on Las Vegas Boulevard. He was performing with a local group, Romance Fantasy, when he met Dave Keuning and Brandon Flowers who had recently begun performing as The Killers. He joined The Killers in August 2002. The band would practice at Vannucci's garage and Ronnie would also sneak the band into the Alta Ham Fine Arts Building at UNLV at night to practice. He later finalized his B.A. at UNLV on May 14, 2011 while The Killers were on hiatus. The Killers have released four consecutive No. 1 albums in the United Kingdom, sold 25 million albums, and been nominated for seven Grammy Awards and seven BRIT Awards.

My favorite part of The Killers DVD Live from the Royal Albert Hall is probably the rudimental lick Ronnie Vannucci plays in the hall right before coming on stage. Yep, I'm a drummer. He uses Flam 5s in a really creative way, and there is a double stroke roll in there too that sounds smooth as butter. Seriously, listen to that, it sounds like it's floating off the door. Very hard to replicate. When I saw this the first time I didn't know any rudiments or hand technique, and I felt like I was a fake drummer. Guys like Ronnie who've studied and built up hand technique and mastery of rudiments, they're the real drummers.
But luckily I put...

Getting Personal (And a Little Awkward) with The Killers (Vevo)

But luckily I put in the effort and learned rudiments, now I can break down what's going on. The point here isn't to play this exact lick on the drum set. It's to understand that to be able to play something like this and make it sound good, you have to have a handle on a bunch of hand technique that WILL show up on the drum set all the time.
If you're having any trouble with these hand techniques check out my Better Hands course over at TempLeague.com. It's the course I built after learning hand technique and rudiments from watching drum videos online. So I help you cut to the chase and see results fast.

Getting Personal (And a Little Awkward) with The Killers (Vevo)
Vevo’s Kim Taylor Bennett connected with The Killers a decade and a half ago in the UK – but as our new interview with the band reminds, each side remembers the meeting a bit differently. No prob: this new in-depth chat with singer Brandon Flowers and drummer Ronnie Vannucci straightens out everything you need to know about the band and their new album, ‘Wonderful Wonderful.’ The Vegas outfit have been one of the alt-rock’s most reliable bands since they dropped the classic ‘Hot Fuss’ on the world in 2004. That kicked off a string of massive videos that run from “Mr. Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me” to “Miss Atomic Bomb” and “The Man.” This time ‘round Bennett gets Flowers to talk about the latter track, which he says was inspired by his own life when he was in his early 20s. Also on the docket: how the lyrical doors open when the songs turn introspective, articulating emotions by writing songs, being prodded creatively by the Strokes, other members of the band deciding to abandon the road, and lessons learned by watching Mike Tyson.
