European settlement in the region began in the late 17th century with a French fur trading outpost on the banks of the Kaministiquia River. It grew into an important transportation hub with its port forming an important link in the shipping of grain and other products from western Canada, through the Great Lakes and the Saint Lawrence Seaway, to the east coast. Forestry and manufacturing played important roles in the city's economy. They have declined in recent years, but have been replaced by a "knowledge economy" based on medical research and education. Thunder Bay is the site of the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute.
Following World War II, ex-Navy engineer Steve Martin (James Stewart) and his friend Johnny Gambi (Dan Duryea) come to Louisiana with dreams of wealth. They build an offshore oil drilling platform with the help of a large company, and find themselves in a lucrative business. However, local shrimp fishermen are hostile, feeling their livelihood is at risk. A further complication is the budding romance between Steve and the daughter of one of the shrimpers.
Production Dates: late September to mid-November 1952
Filmed in 1.37 to 1 aspect ratio
Released in 1.85 to 1 widescreen aspect ratio
The film marked Universal's first use of stereophonic sound, which at the time was presentable only in select theaters. Some contemporary reviewers complained that the sound, with its use of three speakers, was loud and distracting.
Thunder Bay is a large bay on the north shore of Lake Superior, in Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada. The bay is about 50 kilometres (31mi) long and 22 kilometres (14mi) wide. It is bordered to the east by the Sibley Peninsula at the southern tip of which is Thunder Cape, marking the entrance to the bay for ships approaching from the east. The peninsula when viewed from the north shore of the lake has the appearance of a Sleeping Giant.
The harbour at the City of Thunder Bay is Canada's westernmost port on the Great Lakes, and the end of Great Lakes navigation.
The Ojibwa called it Animikie, meaning "thunder". French explorers called it Baie du Tonnerre which was translated to Thunder Bay in English. In 1871, the bay gave its name to the newly created Thunder Bay District, and in 1970, the amalgamated city of Port Arthur and Fort William also adopted the name Thunder Bay.
Charles Thomas "Stompin' Tom" Connors, OC (February 9, 1936– March 6, 2013) was a Canadiancountry and folksinger-songwriter. Focusing his career exclusively on his native Canada, Connors is credited with writing more than 300 songs and has released four dozen albums, with total sales of nearly 4 million copies. Connors died at 77 in his home in Ballinafad, Ontario, of renal failure.
Isabel's family were Protestant, and his maternal grandfather, John Connors, was a sea captain from Boston, Massachusetts who had died before Stompin' Tom was born. Stompin' Tom's father was a Catholic of Irish and French ancestry, and "may have been Métis or ... Micmac." Isabel Connors and Thomas Joseph Sullivan didn't wed until 30 years later, probably because Sullivan's family were devout Catholics and didn't want him marrying a Protestant; they later divorced. Sullivan's mother gave him $10, and was told to leave home. Connors was also cousin of New Brunswick fiddling sensation, Ned Landry.
Road to ... refers to a series of seven comedy films starring Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour. They are also often referred to as the "Road" pictures or the "Road" series. The movies were a combination of adventure, comedy, romance, and music. The minimal plot often took a back seat to gags, many of them supposedly ad-libbed by Crosby and Hope during filming.
Each film is not simply a comedic film, but a satire of some of the popular film genres of the day, including jungle, Arabian nights, Alaskan adventure, and high seas. The final film not only comes much later, but involves a newer genre; Hong Kong spoofs the spy films of the sixties.
In 1977, an eighth Road to ... movie was planned, titled Road to the Fountain of Youth; however, Crosby died that year of a heart attack.
The Road to episodes contain several signature elements, including a special version of the opening sequence, custom musical cues and musical numbers, and parodies of science fiction and fantasy films. Many of the episodes are popular among television critics, and have been nominated for several awards. In 2000, "Road to Rhode Island" was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award in the "Outstanding Animated Program (for Programming Less Than One Hour)" category. In 2009, "Road to Germany", along with two other episodes from the seventh season, were nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award in the "Outstanding Comedy Series" category, the first time in 48 years multiple episodes of one animated series were nominated for the same award.
Professor Thomas Anthony Connors (18 December 1934 – 4 February 2002) was a British cancer research scientist.
Connors was for 40 years involved in the development of anti-cancer drugs including cis-platinum and its derivative, carbo-platin, two effective anti-cancer agents. Connors' initial research was under the auspices of mentor and friend Professor Walter Ross at the Chester Beatty Institute where he gained his Doctorate in 1960. In 1976 Connors' career expanded into the field of toxicology and he was appointed Director of the Medical Research Council's toxicology unit. Connors also sat on committees including the Cancer Research Campaign. He formed the Phase I/II Drug Development Committee during this period. Connors also advised overseas institutes and their governments. and was a special advisor to President Gerald Ford. On retirement in 1994 Connors was appointed Honorary Professor at the School of Pharmacy, University of London.
Connors was awarded many honours including honorary degrees from several universities, Including Aston (1997) and Dublin Trinity in 2001. He has a research unit named after him at Bradford University.

I never thought that anyone could do me like you do me I never thought that love would get in the way But there was magic in the air and there were stars out on the water On a moonlit night in Thunder Bay Was it the lightning on the water? Was it the thunder from the bay? When the night goes down, they are hard to tell apart Just like howling at the moon and barking at the dark Just like howling at the moon and barking at the dark The eyes of disillusion keep burning holes right through me Down in Watertown, you'll see it all A willing hand, a second glance at evil in a red dress I threw in my hand and bet it all Was it the lightning on the water? Was it the thunder from the bay? When the night goes down, they are hard to tell apart Just like howling at the moon and barking at the dark Just like howling at the moon and barking at the dark I could've walked away I should've been afraid I never would've strayed But I did, yes, I did, in Thunder Bay Was it the lightning on the water? Was it the thunder from the bay? When the night goes down, they are hard to tell apart Just like howling at the moon and barking at the dark
