Viking River Cruise on the Rhine River: Basel to Amsterdam
I boarded the Viking River Cruise Hlin today!
Find me on Instagram at @brendanvanson.
It was a bit sad leaving Freiburg as I really kind of loved the city, but I was pretty excited to be heading towards one of the viking river cruise longships in Basel. After some hard travel in Patagonia, I feel like I deserve to be pampered a little bit. I'm on assignment with them for a full week, so it will be nice to be in a little bit of luxury for a while.
For the trip, I'm on the Hlin doing the Rhine Getaway which is a Viking River Cruise from Basel to Amsterdam. It's an 8 day trip, and it should lead to lots of cool destinations and hopefully images.
My job is to vlog my experience on the trip as well as capture photos of the experience.
The trip starts in Basel, so that's basically where this...

Deutsches Eck Koblenz, Germany | Where the Mosel river joins the Rhine | 4k Ultra HD | Deutschland
Deutsches Eck ("German Corner") is the name of a promontory in Koblenz, Germany, where the Mosel river joins the Rhine. Named after a local commandry of the Teutonic Order ("Teutonischer Orden"), it became known for a monumental equestrian statue of William I, first German Emperor, erected in 1897 in appreciation of his role in the unification of Germany. One of many Emperor William monuments raised in the Prussian Rhine Province, it was destroyed in World War II and only the plinth was preserved as a memorial. Following German reunification, a replica of the statue was erected on the pedestal after controversial discussions in 1993. It is today a Koblenz monument and a popular tourist attraction.

[4K] Hohenzollern Bridge and Surroundings - Cologne Germany Walking Tour
Here is part 4 of my newest city walking tour series of Cologne (Köln), Western Germany with some of its major city's attractions and top sights in May 2020 during the pandemic. This walk offers one of the best ways of enjoying Cologne city's beautiful Cathedral, Hohenzollern Bridge (including tons of love locks) and surroundings during a time where traveling is difficult. I am starting this tour close to the Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom), then approaching slowly the Hohenzollern Bridge. After I crossed it I will go down to the the right (east) bank of the Rhine river and walk until the Deutz Bridge.
The Hohenzollern bridge was constructed between 1907 and 1911 after the demolition of old bridge, the Cathedral Bridge (Dombrücke). The Cathedral Bridge was unable to handle the increasing t...

IT determined the northern frontier of the Roman empire, it was the place to see the heaviest bombardment of WW2 as Germany’s main defensive line. today it is home to the biggest shipping ports and some of the most industrious regions in Europe, packed with beautiful places and national treasures the Rhine is arguably the most precious of the European Rivers.
But its importance, like the importance of most rivers today, is somewhat forgotten. Now that we are in the 21st century with the Netherlands importing its Tulips from Kenya, and peace treaties being negotiated over tele - conferences it is easy to forget that nations are often shaped by their rivers.

The trip starts in Basel, so that's basically where this vlog starts. I rolled into Basel, dropped my things off at the longship, and then went out for a bit of a wander throughout the city. I've never spent any time in Basel before, so it was cool to wander around. It's a really cool town, actually. I need to add it to my list of places to go back to. When I got back to the boat, I gave a bit of a tour of my stateroom.
Unfortunately, as I got back on the longship, it started pouring rain. As we set sail from Basel to Amsterdam, the rain just crushed us. But, being a bit of a trooper, and wanting to capture our departure, I went out to the front of the ship to film.
This Viking River Cruise on the Rhine is going to be a lot of fun, actually. There are a number of other photographers and journalists on board doing reviews and vlogging their experiences, so it should be cool. Always nice to hang out with some other people in the industry, I'm looking forward to seeing their reviews and the work they come up with here on the Rhine.
Tomorrow, the Hiln and I roll into Breisag, Germany and we'll explore the Black Forest and Colmar, France, so stay tuned for that Viking River Cruise vlog!

The Cathedral Bridge was unable to handle the increasing traffic in Cologne. The new bridge was named after the House of Hohenzollern, the rulers of Prussia and German Emperors. (At the time, Cologne formed part of the Prussian Rhine Province.)
Köln/Cologne is the largest city of Germany's most populous federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth-most populous city in Germany. With slightly over a million inhabitants Cologne is one of the most important commercial and cultural centers of Germany.
This video covers the following Cologne city's attractions: Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom),
Hohenzollern Bridge/Brücke, right (east) bank of the Rhine river.
I hope you can relax and enjoy this beautiful walking tour through Cologne. Feel free to give me feedback for this city tour and please like and consider subscribing to my channel if you enjoy my work.
