First Sea Lord Admiral Tony Radakin talks about the impact on the Royal Navy of the Integrated Review after the release of the Defence Command Paper from Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace
"The review is the most wide-ranging for a generation. It sets out the Government’s priorities for Defence. It speaks to how the nation is going to go out into the world after leaving the EU. Staying strong with Allies. Securing trade partners. Driving science and technology. And responding better to the threats that we face. The white ensign will fly in all the places where we are now but also further afield and more persistently."

In 2002, An F-14 Pilot Disobeyed a Rear Admiral.
On March 4th, 2002, four F-14 Tomcats headed to Afghanistan from CVN-74 in the Indian Ocean. A day prior, three MH47E Chinook helicopters were hit here at the "Takur Ghar" mountains. This area was an enemy fortress, and troops were in urgent need of CAS. F-14s were directed to "Takur Ghar" and released their bombs. The AWACS then ordered them to return to the aircraft carrier. However, one pilot said no! When the rear admiral told him to return, he said no to him too and turned off his radio. He refused because the troops on the ground still needed their help.

Rear Admiral Schools Pauline Hanson on Submarine Capabilities
A rear admiral appeared to become frustrated when he was asked whether submarines commissioned by the Australian government could last more than 20 minutes under water by One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson.
“Is it true that pump-jet submarines can only stay underwater for 20 minutes?” Hanson asked.
“I assure you they can last for longer than 20 minutes,” Rear Admiral Greg Sammut said. “A pump jet is a form of propeller, it has no bearing on how deep a submarine can go, how long it can stay under water.”
The senator was inquiring about plans for 12 new vessels, which will be built by French shipbuilder Naval Group, SBS reported.

------
Description: Rear admiral is a naval commissioned officer rank above that of a commodore and captain, and below that of a vice admiral. It is generally regarded as the lowest of the "admiral" ranks, which are also sometimes referred to as "flag officers" or "flag ranks". In many navies it is referred to as a two-star rank /. Guatemalan Naval Ship Intrudes Belize Waters; Formal Protest Expected
A Guatemalan navy ship illegally entered the country's waters today in what is yet another incursion by the Guatemalan military. This morning, around 8:30 a.m., a Belize Coast Guard patrol spotted a Guatemalan naval vessel within Belizean waters. The patrol quickly moved to the area and discovered a Guatemalan navy ship, approximately 65 feet in length. However, contrary to reports made on social media, the vessel was not grounded and there was no confrontation between the BCG and members of the Guatemalan Armed Forces. In 2002, An F-14 Pilot Disobeyed a Rear Admiral.
On March 4th, 2002, four F-14 Tomcats headed to
Afghanistan from CVN-74 in the Indian Ocean.

It originated from the days of naval sailing squadrons and can trace its origins to the Royal Navy. Each naval squadron would be assigned an admiral as its head, who would command from the centre vessel and direct the activities of the squadron. The admiral would in turn be assisted by a vice admiral, who commanded the lead ships which would bear the brunt of a naval battle. In the rear of the naval squadron, a third admiral would command the remaining ships and, as this section of the squadron was considered to be in the least danger, the admiral in command of the rear would typically be the most junior of the squadron admirals. This has survived into the modern age, with the rank of rear admiral the most-junior of the admiralty ranks of many navies. In some European navies , and in the Canadian Forces' French rank translations, the rank of rear admiral is known as contre-amiral. In the German Navy the rank is known as Konteradmiral, superior to the flotilla admiral . In the Royal Netherlands Navy, this rank is known as schout-bij-nacht , denoting the role junior to the squadron admiral, and fleet admiral.

The patrol quickly moved to the area and discovered a Guatemalan navy ship, approximately 65 feet in length. However, contrary to reports made on social media, the vessel was not grounded and there was no confrontation between the BCG and members of the Guatemalan Armed Forces. Commandant of the BCG Rear Admiral Elton Bennett spoke to our newsroom about the situation and what will be done by the government to lodge a formal complaint.
The last reported incursion by Guatemalan navy ships was in September.
