The Advocate is an American LGBT-interest magazine, printed bi-monthly and available by subscription. The Advocate brand also includes a website. Both magazine and website have an editorial focus on news, politics, opinion, and arts and entertainment of interest to lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender (LGBT) people. The magazine, established in 1967, is the oldest and largest LGBT publication in the United States and the only surviving one of its kind that was founded before the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, an incident that is generally credited as the beginning of the LGBT rights movement.
History
The Advocate was first published as a local newsletter by the activist group Personal Rights in Defense and Education (PRIDE) in Los Angeles. The newsletter was inspired by a police raid on a Los Angeles gay bar, the Black Cat Tavern, on January 1, 1967, and the demonstrations against police brutality in the months following that raid. Richard Mitch (using the pseudonym "Dick Michaels") and Bill Rau (under the name "Bill Rand") joined PRIDE and, along with Aristide Laurent and artist Sam Winston, transformed the newsletter into a newspaper titled The Los Angeles Advocate. The first issue bore a cover date of September 1967, and was sold for 25 cents in gay bars in Los Angeles. By early 1968, PRIDE was struggling to stay viable and Mitch and Rau paid the group one dollar for ownership of the paper in February of that year. In 1969 the newspaper was renamed The Advocate and distributed nationally. By 1974, Mitch and Rau were printing 40,000 copies for each issue.
The Advocate Weekly Newspapers, a set of weekly regional alternative newspapers published by New Mass. Media Corp. in Connecticut and Massachusetts, United States
The Advocate circulates in Stamford and the nearby southwestern Connecticut towns of Darien and New Canaan. The paper's headquarters moved in 2008 from downtown Stamford, across the street from the Stamford Government Center, to the Riverbend complex in the Springdale section of Stamford.
Coverage
In addition to the regular focus on local news, sports and business, The Advocate pays special attention to the workings of Metro-North Railroad, since many in southwestern Connecticut commute by train.
The Advocate'Website was launched in 1999. In early 2007, the site started featuring message boards.
History
The Advocate has been called Stamford's oldest continuing business.
The Intelligencer
The paper's earliest origins come from The Intelligencer, a newspaper originally run out of a small office on the south side of West Park (now Columbus Park in downtown Stamford) in April 1829. William Henry "Hen" Holly installed a printing press there, but despite some support from the community, he closed the publication after a few months for lack of revenue.
Global, styled also as Global with Matthew Amroliwala (as of 8 September 2014), is a news programme on BBC World News that premiered on 14 January 2013 with the relaunch of the channel from Broadcasting House. The programme was hosted initially by Jon Sopel who joined the channel from the domestic BBC News channel. Sopel regularly presented the programme on location around the world and in this case it is broadcast in part on the BBC News channel. Sopel was promoted to North America Editor in 2014, and was succeeded in September by Matthew Amroliwala.
Global replaced The Hub, which originally was an edition of World News Today and served as a news 'nerve centre' for South Asia and the Middle East, providing both the headlines, and detailed analysis of the global news agenda.
Schedule
Global is aired from 15:00–16:30 GMT (16:00–17:30 BST in summer time), Monday to Friday on BBC World News, usually followed by an edition of World Business Report.
Presenters
When Jon Sopel presented, the title sequence ends by stating 'Global with Jon Sopel'. However, when he does not, as he is often on assignment, the titles only show 'Global', regardless of the replacement presenter. This only happens if he isn't reporting from a location on a topic covered in the show.
The Suzhou RunHua Global Center (Chinese:苏州盛高环球大厦), formerly the SPG Global Towers, are a pair of skyscrapers in Suzhou, China. Groundbreaking on the buildings began in 2007, and they were completed in 2010. Building A is 282m (925ft) to the architectural tip with 49 floors, and is used mostly for office space, while tower B is 240m (790ft) to the architectural tip with 54 floors, and is residential.

In this dark, phantoms unite Creating patterns of souls and shadows To form unheavenly figures and soldiers Rising from infinite portals Rising from infinite portals When Satan walks upon the earth God's children die One by one they fall and burn And so I live again Sent through time and space to kill Consuming all who fly above Angel limbs and gore I lust And murder is my god Building this art, this flesh, this pain I claim this torture my own To stretch the wounds of human infection Erasing existence with violence and death Erasing existence with violence and death Undead kings and fallen masters I keep these burdens Blood and doom my calling I fall to coma, bliss, and nightmare Creatures from beneath my dreams I live to serve you Demons from below these realms I kill to serve you Undead kings and fallen masters I keep these burdens Blood and doom my calling I fall to coma, bliss, and nightmare Shadows from beneath the Earth I live to serve you I sleep in hibernation
