The term comes from a German word for bridge, Steg, used by the Meistersingers of the 15th to 18th century to describe a transitional section in medieval bar form. The German term became widely known in 1920s Germany through musicologist Alfred Lorenz and his exhaustive studies of Richard Wagner's adaptations of bar form in his popular 19th century neo-medieval operas. The term entered the English lexicon in the 1930s—translated as bridge—via composers fleeing Nazi Germany who, working in Hollywood and on Broadway, used the term to describe similar transitional sections in the American popular music they were writing.
"The Bridge" is a song from Elton John's 2006 album The Captain & the Kid. It is a simple, stripped-down production focused on John and his piano, with sparse further accompaniment. This is the first song since the title track of Breaking Hearts with this arrangement. The song, which was only released as a promotional single, peaked at #19 on Billboard's Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks.
Synopsis
Before playing the song at a concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey on October 7, 2006, John introduced it as a song that can "apply to anyone" at any time in their lives and having to move on instead of living in the past. They either cross the bridge, die trying, or fade away.

Musical development
The song, "The Bridge", is in the key of Db and in 4/4 time.
There is also a part of the song which breaks from the usual pattern of both the verse of chorus. In a song, this is typically called a bridge or interlude.
The instrumental features John and his piano, accompanied by some haunting harmonies, performed by the rest of the band members. John wanted the sound to be childlike and so the original recording of the harmonies has been adjusted.
John has admitted that it was, in fact, Bernie's idea to have the song solely piano and voice. This was the first song since Breaking Hearts (Ain't What It Used to Be) to use Elton's Piano only.
Marz, born Zlatko Hukic, is a Croatian rap artist raised in Chicago, IllinoisUnited States. He spent several years with Ministry before forming his own rap-metal band, also called Marz. After touring with Insane Clown Posse and contributing to the band Dark Lotus, he set up his own record label, Billion Dollar Ballers.
Early history
Marz was born in Croatia, but grew up in Chicago and started in music working as a tech in a Chicago recording studio (Chicago Trax), where he worked for various acts, including Peter Gabriel and Ministry. Hukic met Ministry's Al Jourgensen in 1994 at the Chicago Trax recording studio where Hukic was interning while working on solo material, and Jourgensen recruited him to work on Ministry's record, Filth Pig, playing guitar and also acting as engineer. He went on to become a full-time member, touring the world with the band. He stayed until Ministry's 1999 album, Dark Side of the Spoon, but left the band soon after it was recorded. He was later persuaded back to play on one last tour with the band. Hukic and Jourgensen remained on good terms, with Jourgensen even joining Marz on stage at a few performances.
Bridge (simplified Chinese:桥; traditional Chinese:橋; pinyin:Qiáo) (also known as The Bridge) is a 1949 Chinese war film made shortly after the Communist revolution in China; as such, it is considered the first film completed after the founding of the People's Republic of China. As a film, Bridge set many of the themes that would dominate the Socialist cinema of post-1949 China, including the glorification of the worker and the conversion of the intellectual to Communism.
Plot
During the Chinese Civil War, a railroad factory is commissioned by the Communist army to repair a bridge. Led by a skeptical engineer who does not believe the bridge can be completed in time, the factory workers lack enthusiasm and morale. The project is galvanized, however, by the work of Liang Ruisheng (Wang Jiayi), who inspires his fellow workers to complete the project for the war effort. In the process, even the engineer is converted.

Elton John - The Bridge (2006) with Lyrics!
From Elton John's 2006 album "The Captain and the Kid."
The album was a follow-up to 1975's "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy." "Captain Fantastic" told the story of Elton John and Bernie Taupin first meeting and writing together, and about the struggles they went through to find their success. The album was a huge success, and considered by many to be among their very best work.
The 2006 "Captain & the Kid" album picked up the story at the beginning of their success, and tells some of the stories of their struggles dealing with that success. Personally I consider this album also among their very best work. The writing, story-telling and performances are absolutely superb.
This song tells of Elton and Bernie's maturing as artists, holding onto the integrity of their craft, and ...

Uncle Jack, when i look back, sent a lot down to me. my mom would say we both seemed to be the life of the party. he was a picker, and a drinker. he took one step over the edge. a drinker, and he ended up with some debt i guess. nobody knows what really happened. the river was swollen when they found him in it, and it rained all weekend on the bridge leaving town. this is how i see it. this is not something i was told. i envisioned it to be dark, wet, and cold. if he jumped, or if he fell, no one knows. but ive got a different picture for each one of those. i was a baby. and we never really met, its really sad, i guess. he was a musician, just like his nephew and if he couldve i wouldve wanted him to teach me. but all i ever got from him, Uncle Jack, was his need to stop drinking.
