Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the aim is to replace the ageing rolling stock, which will require 7,000-8,000 new train sets. The tenders for this project will be called within the next 4-5 years. This procurement process will involve floating train tenders valued at around Rs 1 lakh crore, executed over the next 15 years. Doing so will replace the older rolling stock with new ones.
