Raidió Teilifís Éireann (Irish pronunciation:[ˈradʲo ˈtʲɛlʲəfʲiːʃ ˈeːrʲən]; Radio [and] Television of Ireland; abbreviated as RTÉ) is a semi-state company and the national public service broadcaster of Ireland. It both produces programmes and broadcasts them on television, radio and the Internet. The radio service began on 1 January 1926, while regular television broadcasts began on 31 December 1961, making it one of the oldest continuously operating public service broadcasters in the world. RTÉ also publishes a magazine called the RTÉ Guide, published weekly, which is orientated around RTÉ television and radio.
RTÉ is financed by a television licence fee and through advertising. Some RTÉ services are only funded by advertising, while other RTÉ services are only funded by the licence fee. RTÉ is a statutory body, run by a board appointed by the Government of Ireland. General management of the organisation is in the hands of the Executive Board headed by the Director-General. RTÉ is regulated by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. Radio Éireann, RTÉ's predecessor and at the time a section of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, was one of 23 founding organisations of the European Broadcasting Union in 1950.
RTÉ Television is a department of Ireland's national broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ).
The first channel to broadcast was Telefís Éireann which began broadcasting on 31 December 1961. Since the 1960s, RTÉ Television has rapidly changed to include further television channels and provide television services with the latest digital technologies.
Channels
RTÉ One HD (launched in 1961 as Telefís Éireann then RTÉ from 1966, on 16 December 2013 launched HD service)
RTÉ Two HD (launched in 1978, known from 1988 to 2004 as Network 2, HD in October 2011)
With the launch of digital terrestrial television in the Republic of Ireland, Saorview will give RTÉ the opportunity to offer viewers greater choice. In the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland RTÉ aspire to provide viewers with additional channels which will include a high-definition channel RTÉ Two HD,RTÉ Plus, a combined offering of RTÉ's children's services which includes RTÉjr and TRTÉ and RTÉ Aertel Digital which will include an enhanced digital teletext service. Existing services include RTÉ One, RTÉ Two and RTÉ News Now.
ESB claims Red Bull skydive over Dublin was a 'serious safety incident'
The ESB has described a stunt where three skydivers flew between the Poolbeg Chimneys in Dublin as a "serious safety incident".
Footage shows Red Bull's Marco Fürst, Marco Waltenspiel and Max Manow flying through the two chimneys this morning, reaching a top speed of 253km/h and completing their flight in just over a minute.
The ESB says it was not approached in relation to the skydive and did not give permission for it to take place.
Red Bull Ireland has said the stunt was carried out "with rigorous safety measures and with the permission from all the required relevant authorities".

Donald Trump has said not even Mother Teresa could beat the charges he is facing.
Jurors have begun deliberations in his hush money trial in New York, where he is charged with falsifying documents to cover up payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Mr Trump also accused the judge of being “very, very corrupt”.

Stowaways emerge from trailer in Dublin warehouse
Watch the moment six migrants emerge from a lorry trailer parking up at a warehouse in Dublin.
This was one of the nine deliveries received by Hyland Shipping in the past week which had evidence of migrants stowing away.
On the eight other occasions, the stowaways had exited the lorry before it made the warehouse.
Because of this “unprecedented” raise in incidents, Hyland Shipping has stopped accepting deliveries that have come through Cherbourg Port in France.

Frontline gardaí in Dublin have begun wearing body cameras with around 350 gardaí from three garda stations using the technology on a pilot basis ahead of a planned roll-out across the country next year.
The cameras will be worn on a garda's chest and will flash red when they are turned on.
Gardaí will not have to tell members of the public when they are in use but will be encouraged to do so as best practice where possible.

The buying and selling of horses on the Streets of Buttevant in County Cork.
‘Hall’s Pictorial Weekly’ visits the Cork town of Buttevant where a horse fair takes place every July attracting traders from far and wide.

Frank Hall’s amusing and satirical series began on 29 September 1971 with the full title ‘Hall’s Pictorial Weekly Incorporating the Provincial Vindicator’ which became known as ‘Hall’s Pictorial Weekly’.
The series allowed Frank Hall to follow his own interest in the lives of viewers throughout the country. Regarded as RTE’s flagship comedy show, it featured satirical sketches on current news stories and popular culture, as well as parody songs, comedy sketches, re-edited videos, cartoons and spoof television formats. The show ran for 9 series until 1980.
Raidió Teilifís Éireann (Irish pronunciation:[ˈradʲo ˈtʲɛlʲəfʲiːʃ ˈeːrʲən]; Radio [and] Television of Ireland; abbreviated as RTÉ) is a semi-state company and the national public service broadcaster of Ireland. It both produces programmes and broadcasts them on television, radio and the Internet. The radio service began on 1 January 1926, while regular television broadcasts began on 31 December 1961, making it one of the oldest continuously operating public service broadcasters in the world. RTÉ also publishes a magazine called the RTÉ Guide, published weekly, which is orientated around RTÉ television and radio.
RTÉ is financed by a television licence fee and through advertising. Some RTÉ services are only funded by advertising, while other RTÉ services are only funded by the licence fee. RTÉ is a statutory body, run by a board appointed by the Government of Ireland. General management of the organisation is in the hands of the Executive Board headed by the Director-General. RTÉ is regulated by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. Radio Éireann, RTÉ's predecessor and at the time a section of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, was one of 23 founding organisations of the European Broadcasting Union in 1950.
