Although the Quillayute is one of the main rivers on the Olympic Peninsula and has a large drainage area, due to an unusual naming arrangement it is officially very short, being only about 4 miles (6.4km) long. At the confluence of the Sol Duc and Bogachiel rivers the use of the Quillayute name ends, although the river continues far into the interior.
The Quillayute River is the current, traditional and ancestral center of the territory of the Quileute Native Tribe, which before European settlement occupied the entire drainage basin (plus that of the Hoh River). Presently the natives live at the town of La Push on their small treaty reservation which adjoins the south shore of the river at the mouth.
On the Quillayute River on the Washington Coast, Wild Salmon Center and the Quileute Tribe are restoring salmon and steelhead habitat and protecting the community of La Push from catastrophic flooding. This massive cooperative undertaking will cool down water in the lower river for fish and redirect the river’s energy into historic floodplains away from the village. The Quillayute project demonstrates the multiple benefits of sound natural infrastructure planning and execution.

Fishing the Quileute V2 1
This the second version of this short film. I included another caption at the end to explain that my brother didn't know if he had caught the fish as the line broke just as my son Matt netted the fish.
We are fishing the Quileute River near Forks, Washington with my two brothers and son and guide Matt Enges, owner of Sensei Guide Service, when my brother John hooked a big king salmon in the tidal section of the river. The fight is on! Hope you enjoy.

Went fishing the Quillayute River on 8/18/2018 with friend and guide Parker. Caught a nice bright native Silver which was released. We also caught a small Jack which is in the freezer. Sorry that the camera was not on when both were caught but had a great local guide and I highly recommend him. I placed his contact information at the end of the video.

Up and down the West Coast, Wild Salmon Center is working with local communities to prioritize the most important salmon and steelhead restoration actions and then put money on the ground to get restoration projects done. Our science-based approach is already paying dividends. And, with new federal infrastructure and resilience funding coming online, we could see a quantum leap forward for watersheds and communities in the next five years. Natural infrastructure investments mean good things for people, fish, and wildlife.

Quillayute River Slough Washington
The Quillayute River (also spelled Quileute River) is a river situated on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. It empties into the Pacific Ocean at La Push. The Quillayute River is formed by the confluence of the Bogachiel River, Calawah and the Sol Duc River. The Dickey River joins the Quillayute just above the river's mouth on the Pacific Ocean. This area is fabulous for fishing, camping, kayaking, hiking and just chillin'.
