Littoral Combat Ship Live Fire with 57MM Naval Gun System
PACIFIC OCEAN (June 29, 2018) The Littoral Combat Ship USS Montgomery (LCS 8) conducts a live-fire exercise with the ship's MK 110 MOD 0 57mm naval gun system. The exercise was part of Combat Systems Ship Qualifications Trials (CSSQT) during which the crew demonstrates complete operability of the ship's entire combat systems suite. LCS is a high-speed, agile, shallow draft, mission-focused surface combatant designed for operations in the littoral environment, yet fully capable of open ocean operations. As part of the surface fleet, LCS has the ability to counter and outpace evolving threats independently or within a network of surface combatants. -Though six battleships (Arkansas, New York, Texas, Nevada, Idaho and Tennessee), five cruisers (Pensacola, Salt Lake City, Chester, Tuscaloosa and Vicksburg) and many destroyers were present and shooting, at the end of the day results were modest, at best.
Visibility, and bombardment effectiveness, greatly improved during the following two days. The task was assisted by occasional Japanese efforts to return fire, which pointed out the location of previously concealed pillboxes and other defenses. Ships worked closer to shore, enhancing accuracy, and more targets became apparent as their cover was blasted away. However, at least 700 fortified positions had been identified, and all could not be dealt with in the remaining time. On 18 February fire was therefore concentrated on the landing beach areas and the adjacent heights.
On the morning of "D-Day", 19 February, the bombardment intensified. Two more battleships (North Carolina and Washington -- a third, West Virginia, arrived later in the day) added sixteen inch shells to the fourteen and twelve inch types of the battleships already on station. Three additional cruisers (Indianapolis, Santa Fe and Biloxi) brought more eight and six inch guns to the battle. Heavy ships stood off Iwo Jima's southeastern and southwestern coasts, many of them placed to inflict a close-in battering on the enemy. Rates of fire were increased, with periodic lulls to allow carrier-based airplanes to add their bombs, rockets and machine gun bullets to the attack. The lower half of the island appeared to be receiving an overwhelming rain of fire.

Pakistan Navy Ship HUNAIN constructed at DAMEN Shipyards was commissioned on 25 July 2024 at Constanta Port, #Romania in a ceremony attended by high level civil and military delegates including members of diplomatic corps. Admiral Naveed Ashraf NI(M), T.Bt, Chief of Naval Staff of Pakistan Navy was the chief guest of the ceremony which was also attended by General Gheorghita Vlad, Chief of Defense Staff and Vice Admiral Mihai Panait, Chief of Romanian Navy.
The vessels of the second batch of #YARMUKCLASS have a length of 98 meters (322 ft), a beam of 14.4 meters (47 ft) and a draft of 4 meters (13 ft). The displacement of both vessels is approximately 2600 tones being larger than the corvettes of the first batch, the second batch corvettes are also more heavily armed. They can also carry two high-speed rigid-hulled inflatable boats of 11.5 meters (38 ft) and 6.5 meters (21 ft) simultaneously. In addition to that, they are designed to accommodate two twenty-foot equivalent units for special mission-based operations. The OPVs will be able to sail at speeds ranging between 22 knots and 25 knots up to a range of 5,000nm and have an endurance of 40 days. The vessels will feature advanced communication systems and will be equipped for extended range and performance.
The vessels will feature the capacity for five additional mission modules, such as a side scan sonar for anti-submarine warfare, mine countermeasures for ships, UAV, pollution control, hospital facilities, diving support, as well as energy and water-making facilities and more.
The OPVs will feature Gokdeniz or Phalanx CIWS anti-air missile systems, and a vertical launching system cell for surface-to-air missiles.
In addition, they will be fitted with an Aselsan Smart-S MK2 active electronically scanned array radar, Aselsan Stamp lightweight remote-controlled weapon station for a main naval cannon, two Harbah tri-cell dual-use anti-ship/land-attack cruise missile launchers with a range of 750km, and two triple-cell torpedo launchers.
Furthermore, the vessels will be integrated with advanced low-probability-of-intercept radars, a modern electronic warfare suite, electronic intelligence/electronic support measures, and a close-range acoustic weapon.
The rest of the capabilities will remain the same as the smaller Yarmook vessels.
Propulsion systems
Yarmook-class corvettes are powered by four Caterpillar 3516 diesel engines in its combined diesel and diesel configuration, and two controllable pitch propellers.
