Castellón's capital is Castellón de la Plana (Catalan:Castelló de la Plana). The province had a population of 501,237 in 2002, 30% of whom were residing in the capital, 60% in its metropolitan area, and 85% along the coastline. As of 2012, the population had since grown to 604,564 people. The province, and in particular its idle large airport, has become a symbol of the wasteful spending and corruption prior to the 2008–13 Spanish financial crisis.
It is a bilingual territory, with many inhabitants speaking both Spanish and the local, co-official language of Valencian. The relation of the latter to the very closely related and mutually understandable Catalan is a source of some controversy.
A few days of rest and nature in Spain, province of Castellón.
A week at the San Bartolomé cabins, Villahermosa del Río, with a visit to the Rio Carbo inn, Ruta del los Molinos in Lucena del Cid and the town of Culla. All in the province of Castellón.

SPAIN - PENISCOLA - PROVINCE OF CASTELLON - OCTOBER - 2019 #7
Departing Tarragona and continuing south along Spain's Mediterranean east coast, I rest the SuperDuke at Peñíscola. A Valencian community in the province of Castellón, known locally as '"The City in the Sea". I had a very relaxed, enjoyable stay at the Hotel Bodegon, right on the beach, a short cycle ride from the town and historic 13th century castle looking out over the Balearic Sea. It was late October, the sun was still strong. I enjoyed the peaceful beaches but it was busier in town if you wanted it.
I initially stayed for 3 night then extended to 7 as i hoped to get a package delivered from the UK to the hotel. It contained a replacement camera frame that broke earlier on my trip. I hired a pushbike on 4 days to get around on I think it was €8per day.

Castellón de la Plana, Spain 2019 (city hightlights)
Castellón de la Plana is situated 60km north of Valencia and is easily accessible by train or bus for those who want to spend a day away. We actually preferred to overnight so the level of relaxation almost reached that of the laid-back locals. This is still an undiscovered town where we enjoyed its fair share of squares, the central park and the numerous sculptures all over the historical town centre which is best discovered on foot as it is pedestrianised.
There are some interesting attractions to check like the gothic cathedral of Saint Mary, the Ajuntament(Town Hall from early 18th c.), El Fadrí(bell-tower from 15th c.), the Llotja del Cànem (Hemp Exchange Market, 17th c.), the central market, the Basílica of Santa Maria del Lledó (14-16th c.), the Bishop's Palace (18th c.) and the b...
