Learning Product Development
In 2019 I wanted to teach myself product development while filming the whole process. It took a lot longer than expected and I burned out pretty hard near the end(2021).
And yes I was doing it all myself which I now know is not very smart, it's just too much for one person. You really need a team of people to bring a product to market, or at least a few founders. I guess this was more of a learning experience than anything else. I knew I needed to gain experience in commercialization as my normal builds were quite sketchy. So it was good to try and build something solid over long periods.
These first 5 months included a lot of electrical hardware design(PCBs) and embedded software development. I do want to catch you guys up on everything so I'll be making videos in roughly 5-month chun...

Product development for tech products is a complex process that involves many disciplines and different people. But in a nutshell the idea is simple we need to identify a problem, that a significant amount of people have, build a solution they enjoy, and be able to do all this in a profitable way, so we can continue working on it and improving it in the future.
My name is Juan Rodriguez, I’m a senior program manager at a tech company in Finland, my experience is in building both desktop and cloud solutions focused on B2B, I care a lot about product design identifying the right customer problems and finding the solutions that bring the biggest impact to the company.
My education is on electronics and automation and my early jobs were focused on machine vision and to some degree robotics, you can imagine I don’t like manual processes very much and love to automate as much as possible :) I moved to Finland in 2006 and started working as a software engineer, after a while I moved into product teams, with roles like application manager and product manager. Currently I am the product director driving product managers and helping them grow in their careers.

“Build it, and they will come” is a dangerous mindset in the startup world. Even if you create a great product, building a successful company around it can be nuanced and challenging. In addition to product development, you need to find and prove product-market fit—then repeat and scale through sales and marketing.
About the Speaker:
Chris Gardner is a partner at Underscore VC, a Boston-based firm investing in bold B2B software founders.
Chris is a resident builder, happiest when he’s hands-on with a project. At Underscore VC, that means identifying and investing in uniquely qualified founders, and then helping to build their company in any way needed: networker, salesperson, mentor, coach, psychotherapist, even drinking buddy.
His tinkering and building extend to his personal life, where you’ll find him getting hands-on in any manner of project. Car maintenance? He has a lift in his garage. Music? He’s recording an album in his barn studio. Cooking? His BBQ ribs are the stuff of legend. In short, if he can get his hands on it, he can master it (except golf; don’t ever ask Chris to play golf).
Though he’s known as a FinTech entrepreneur, Chris is a self-professed nerd and technology omnivore who, prior to Underscore VC, spent nearly three decades at companies focused on speech recognition, video streaming, mobile marketing, mobile messaging, e-billing, and document management. His last five roles all resulted in exits that created good outcomes for employees and investors.
Most recently, Chris was an executive at PayPal and led their P2P, PayPal Here, and In-Store payments products after Paydiant, the company he co-founded and built, was acquired by PayPal in 2015. Prior to that, Chris was CMO and head of products at ExtendMedia, a video content delivery and commerce platform software company that was acquired by Cisco in 2010; SVP of Products and Marketing at m-Qube, North America’s leading premium SMS mobile payments provider that was acquired by Verisign in 2006; and VP of Products and Marketing at edocs, Inc., an e-billing, payments, and customer self-service company that was acquired by Siebel Systems in 2004.
Chris earned a BA in Communications from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst a really long time ago.

I do want to catch you guys up on everything so I'll be making videos in roughly 5-month chunks between 2019-2022. Until we get more up-to-date, I think it just makes the most sense to post the footage in order.
