Predation

In an ecosystem, predation is a biological interaction where a predator (an organism that is hunting) feeds on its prey (the organism that is attacked). Predators may or may not kill their prey prior to feeding on them, but the act of predation often results in the death of the prey and the eventual absorption of the prey's tissue through consumption. Thus predation is often, though not always, carnivory. Other categories of consumption are herbivory (eating parts of plants), mycophagy (eating parts of fungi), and detritivory (the consumption of dead organic material (detritus)). All these consumption categories fall under the rubric of consumer-resource systems. It can often be difficult to separate various types of feeding behaviors. For example, some parasitic species prey on a host organism and then lay their eggs on it for their offspring to feed on it while it continues to live in or on its decaying corpse after it has died. The key characteristic of predation however is the predator's direct impact on the prey population. On the other hand, detritivores simply eat dead organic material arising from the decay of dead individuals and have no direct impact on the "donor" organism(s).

Prey (Star Trek: Voyager)

"Prey" is the 84th episode of the science fiction television series Star Trek: Voyager, the 16th episode of the fourth season.

Overview: A member of Species 8472 captured by the Hirogen penetrates Voyager.

Plot

The Federation starship Voyager discovers an injured Hirogen who is in the middle of an intense hunt for what is a formidable and dangerous prey even for Hirogen standards. He is brought in to Sickbay for treatment, but is eager to get back out and track down his trophy prey. Before he is able to do so, the prey alien invades Voyager. It is a tough, armored, telepathic, insectlike creature that the Borg have designated Species 8472.

The Hirogen hunter is allowed to hunt for 8472 under Chakotay's supervision. The Hirogen starts attacking an unresponsive 8472 without hesitation. He refuses an order to stand down and battles with his Starfleet escort before being stunned and subdued; he is subsequently confined in sickbay. As the crew later approach the seriously injured 8472, it telepathically communicates with the Vulcan tactical officer Tuvok, pleading to be rescued from the hunter and returned to its home, which is a different dimension known as "fluidic space." Meanwhile, a number of Hirogen vessels surround Voyager threatening to destroy them unless 8472 is beamed over. Nevertheless, Captain Janeway immediately orders Seven of Nine to help the alien return to its home territory, hoping to open the door to peaceful contact with its species. Seven refuses to comply, believing the protection of the hated and feared alien is not worth facing imminent destruction at the hands of the Hirogen. She informs Janeway that the approaching Hirogen ships will destroy Voyager unless 8472 is turned over, and a lesson in compassion will do her no good if she is dead.

Prey is a television crime thriller first broadcast on ITV, 28 April 2014 at 9pm. ITV first announced the new commission on their official Twitter account on 23 August 2013. A second series was announced in April 2015 and began airing on 9 December 2015.

Storylines

Series 1

Prey stars John Simm as Detective Constable Marcus Farrow, a well-liked detective with the fictional Manchester Metropolitan Police and a husband with two children. His life falls apart when he finds his wife murdered (later an inspector indicated the murder of one of his sons), and all the evidence points directly to him. Discovered at the scene of the crime, Marcus escapes and goes underground in Manchester as a criminal on the streets he used to police.

Series 2

The new story stars Philip Glenister as Prison Officer David Murdoch. His life becomes complicated when on a routine visit to a Manchester hospital with female prisoner Jules Hope events spiral out of control. David takes a phone call, which will change his life forever and suddenly sees him on the wrong side of the law.

Marz (rapper)

Marz, born Zlatko Hukic, is a Croatian rap artist raised in Chicago, Illinois United States. He spent several years with Ministry before forming his own rap-metal band, also called Marz. After touring with Insane Clown Posse and contributing to the band Dark Lotus, he set up his own record label, Billion Dollar Ballers.

Early history

Marz was born in Croatia, but grew up in Chicago and started in music working as a tech in a Chicago recording studio (Chicago Trax), where he worked for various acts, including Peter Gabriel and Ministry. Hukic met Ministry's Al Jourgensen in 1994 at the Chicago Trax recording studio where Hukic was interning while working on solo material, and Jourgensen recruited him to work on Ministry's record, Filth Pig, playing guitar and also acting as engineer. He went on to become a full-time member, touring the world with the band. He stayed until Ministry's 1999 album, Dark Side of the Spoon, but left the band soon after it was recorded. He was later persuaded back to play on one last tour with the band. Hukic and Jourgensen remained on good terms, with Jourgensen even joining Marz on stage at a few performances.

A tiger's large canine teeth and powerful jaws are used to grab a prey animal by the neck and suffocate it. Also the tiger has been seen to beat a lion in most battles. 2. Giraffe can kick with a force of 2000 pounds per square inch and its kick can kill a lion. Warthog: The warthogs are not easy prey to kill, they are tough and sturdy animals. Gazelle Vs Cheetah The cheetah isn’t the biggest cat, but it’s the fastest, so when it goes on the hunt, it’s not easy to getaway. However, the gazelle is also extremely fast and is equipped with a pair of longhorns that can do some damage. In this sequence, a cheetah decides to hunt a gazelle. It’s a race between two of the fastest land animals in the world. The cheetah hangs on to the gazelle's rearend, but it’s not easy for the cheetah to hold on. The gazelle is big and strong and keeps kicking the cheetah, which is having an awfully hard time getting a stranglehold on the gazelle. The cheetah gets some help from its cubs, but it’s still very difficult for them to bring the gazelle down. The gazelle can move the adult cheetah which allows it to stab it in the mid-section and drive the cheetah into the ground. The horns of the gazelle are piercing the flesh of the cheetah and eventually, the gazelle escapes. The gazelle is not in great shape, but the cheetah is in even worse shape. You can see her side has been ruptured by the gazelle’s horns. With this injury, the cheetah will not be able to hunt and it could mean the end for her and her cubs. Cheetah Vs Impala This next battle is between a cheetah and an impala. The impala gives the cheetah a hell of a fight and it almost looks like the impala is going to overpower the feisty cat when it has it turned on its back and almost pinned to the ground. However, the cheetah manages to grab the impala by the neck and tries suffocating it. The impala is in trouble, gasping for its life as the cheetah cubs wait impatiently for mom to prepare dinner. The cheetah, figuring the impala is dead, drops it to the ground and the cubs run in to begin eating. However, the impala, being the great actor that it is, was faking its death and runs out of there as fast as it can, enough for it to escape the grasp of the exhausted cat. TIGER The tiger is the most powerful predator that lives on land. The tiger is the largest extant cat species. It is an apex predator, primarily preying on ungulates such as deer and wild boar. Tigers are patient hunters and can move slowly and quietly, stalking their prey for 30 minutes. A tiger's large canine teeth and powerful jaws are used to grab a prey animal by the neck and suffocate it. Also the tiger has been seen to beat a lion in most battles. 2. LION The lion is the second largest cat in the world. They live in groups, called prides, of around 30 lions. The lion can attack all other predators without fear. The king of jungle we all know is not actually lion. The lion does not live in the jungle, it lives in the great savannah. They are also extremely protective of their young and whoever approaches their cubs is in extreme danger. lions are very strong in herding and are this is the strongest herd in the world. 3. JAGUAR Jaguars are the only big cat in the America and the third biggest in the world after tigers and lions. They look a lot like leopards, which live in Africa and Asia. The jaguar is not typically an aggressive animal. But when it becomes aggressive, it's with explosive force. It's an ambush predator. Snow leopards: The Snow leopards have evolved to stay in a number of the most harsh situations on the earth.They are perfectly adapted for live in one of the world's highest mountain ranges. They are opportunists when it comes to feeding. Their prey includes the Mountain Goat, markhor, deer, boar, marmots and small rodents. They can also bring down prey almost three times their own size. Guanaco: Guanaco, or Lama guanicoe , are South American member of the camel family. They live on land high in the Andes mountains, up to thirteen thousand feet above sea level. Like camels, guanacos can survive for long periods without drinking. Grass makes up their main diet although they also browse from trees. Giraffes: Giraffes are the world's tallest mammals, These long legs allow giraffes to run as fast as 35 miles an hour over short distances and cruise comfortably at 10 miles an hour over longer distances. Giraffe can kick with a force of 2000 pounds per square inch and its kick can kill a lion. Warthog: The warthogs are not easy prey to kill, they are tough and sturdy animals. Well, in this countdown, we have put together a series of videos where you can see predators get a taste of their own medicine. If you like to cheer for the underdog, it’s time to watch as we countdown 16 moments when prey takes down predators with their horns. Gazelle Vs Cheetah The cheetah isn’t the biggest cat, but it’s the fastest, so when it goes on the hunt, it’s not easy to getaway. However, the gazelle is also extremely fast and is equipped with a pair of longhorns that can do some damage. In this sequence, a cheetah decides to hunt a gazelle. It’s a race between two of the fastest land animals in the world. The cheetah hangs on to the gazelle's rearend, but it’s not easy for the cheetah to hold on. The gazelle is big and strong and keeps kicking the cheetah, which is having an awfully hard time getting a stranglehold on the gazelle. The cheetah gets some help from its cubs, but it’s still very difficult for them to bring the gazelle down. The gazelle can move the adult cheetah which allows it to stab it in the mid-section and drive the cheetah into the ground. The horns of the gazelle are piercing the flesh of the cheetah and eventually, the gazelle escapes. The gazelle is not in great shape, but the cheetah is in even worse shape. You can see her side has been ruptured by the gazelle’s horns. With this injury, the cheetah will not be able to hunt and it could mean the end for her and her cubs. Cheetah Vs Impala This next battle is between a cheetah and an impala. The impala gives the cheetah a hell of a fight and it almost looks like the impala is going to overpower the feisty cat when it has it turned on its back and almost pinned to the ground. However, the cheetah manages to grab the impala by the neck and tries suffocating it. The impala is in trouble, gasping for its life as the cheetah cubs wait impatiently for mom to prepare dinner. The cheetah, figuring the impala is dead, drops it to the ground and the cubs run in to begin eating. However, the impala, being the great actor that it is, was faking its death and runs out of there as fast as it can, enough for it to escape the grasp of the exhausted cat. Predation

In an ecosystem, predation is a biological interaction where a predator (an organism that is hunting) feeds on its prey (the organism that is attacked). Predators may or may not kill their prey prior to feeding on them, but the act of predation often results in the death of the prey and the eventual absorption of the prey's tissue through consumption. Thus predation is often, though not always, carnivory. Other categories of consumption are herbivory (eating parts of plants), mycophagy (eating parts of fungi), and detritivory (the consumption of dead organic material (detritus)). All these consumption categories fall under the rubric of consumer-resource systems. It can often be difficult to separate various types of feeding behaviors. For example, some parasitic species prey on a host organism and then lay their eggs on it for their offspring to feed on it while it continues to live in or on its decaying corpse after it has died. The key characteristic of predation however is the predator's direct impact on the prey population. On the other hand, detritivores simply eat dead organic material arising from the decay of dead individuals and have no direct impact on the "donor" organism(s).
