What does it mean to have power in Global Politics? Here, we'll look at soft power, hard power, and as proposed by Political Scientist Joseph Nye, Smart Power. Realism vs. Liberalism - Global Politics Theories Compared
Realism and Liberalism are the two dominant theories that seek to explain global politics and international relations today. How Do Unipolar, Bipolar, And Multipolar Power Structures Affect Global Politics?
Power distribution in global politics has historically shifted between states. In a Unipolar world, one state has a hegemony, or total power in the system. A bipolar system refers to power shared between two major powers. In a multipolar world, there may be multiple centres of power. Power distribution is also related to power diffusion, often seen in today's world, as exemplified by political scientist Joseph Nye, who argues that the growing power of non-state actors has the ability to destabilize traditional ideas of power distribution.

Balance of power, in international relations, the posture and policy of a nation or group of nations protecting itself against another nation or group of nations by matching its power against the power of the other side.
Power refers to the Monopoly of Force .
"Power is defined as a possibility to influence others." The use of power has evolved over the centuries. Gaining prestige, honor, and reputation is one of the central motives for gaining power in human nature.
Power is an attribute of particular actors in their interactions, as well as a social process that constitutes the social identities and capacities of actors. International relations scholars use the term polarity to describe the distribution of power in the international system.
