Poor Richards Almanack - The Early Years of Benjamin Franklin an Animated Biography
Benjamin Franklin already accomplished a great deal in his youth alone.
This is the first part of a 6 part Benjamin Franklin Biography.
Why six parts?
Because to sum up his many accomplishments in one video couldn't have done Ben Franklin justice.
One would probably be able to fill a six part video series with just Benjamin Franklin's inventions.
He was already determined as a young boy to become better and new that with hard work he could achieve anything.
In his own words:
God rewards industry.
And industrious he was.
This part focuses on Ben's early years, his youth, first job and the journey he took to his first great success.
Poor Richard's Almanack.
He published the Almanack, which is still cited often today under his pen name Richard Saunders.
I've also included some less...

I've also included some lesser known facts which I found interesting.
For example, did you know that Richard Saunders wasn't his first pen name?
It was Silence Dogood, an outspoken widow, a persona he created that was so convincing many men courted her and send him (or her :-)) wedding propositions.
Silence Dogood was born out of necessity because his older brother James Franklin who published the New England Courant rejected all of Ben's essays.
You can read all of his letters to the Courant as Silence Dogood here:
http://www.ushistory.org/franklin/courant/silencedogood.htm
I highly recommend it, the letters are not only entertaining, they also give an insight into the political views he held as a teenager.
Silence Dogood's letters were sophisticated, humorous and highly controversial at the time. Because they already advocated independence from the british empire, even if uttered with caution and only indirectly.
An excerpt:
"Without Freedom of Thought, there can be no such Thing as Wisdom; and no such Thing as publick Liberty, without Freedom of Speech; which is the Right of every Man, as far as by it, he does not hurt or controul the Right of another: And this is the only Check it ought to suffer, and the only Bounds it ought to know."
When he was caught by James to be the true author of Silence Dogood Benjamin Franklin became a fugitive.
Why?
Because the fight with his brother led to him leaving his apprenticeship and this was illegal at the time.
It caused him to move to Philadelphia which is the place most famously associated with him today.
It was there were he met his wife Deborah Read, whose mother rejected his wedding proposal because Ben wasn't wealthy at the time only to be wed to a man, John Rodgers, who made off with the dowry to Barbados.
Talk about a scrub.
He established the Junto there, the Philadelphia Library Company and the Pennsylvania Gazette.
He did this, spent a few years in london, became a father of tw and much much more all before he was 27.
I hope you enjoy this video, subscribe to not miss the next part, and let me know in the comments of things I missed.
