Place of worship

A place of worship is a specially designed structure or consecrated space where individuals or a group of people such as a congregation come to perform acts of devotion, veneration, or religious study. A building constructed or used for this purpose is sometimes called a house of worship. Temples, churches, and mosques are examples of structures created for worship. A monastery, particularly for Buddhists, may serve both to house those belonging to religious orders and as a place of worship for visitors. Natural or topographical features may also serve as places of worship, and are considered holy or sacrosanct in some religions; the rituals associated with the Ganges river are an example in Hinduism.

Under International Humanitarian Law and the Geneva Conventions, religious buildings are offered special protection, similar to the protection guaranteed hospitals displaying the Red Cross or Red Crescent. These international laws of war bar firing upon or from a religious building.

Places Of Worship (released 1 October 2013 in Oslo, Norway) is an album by Arve Henriksen.

Background

This album marks the return of Henriksen to the label Rune Grammofon and furthers his collaboration with Jan Bang and Erik Honoré. He never separates himself from the environmental information provided by his natural Nordic landscape. The lush, wild, and open physical vistas of its geography provide an inner map for the trumpeter and vocalist that amounts to a deeply focused series of tone poems. While these tracks are impossible to separate from the influences of Jon Hassell's Fourth World Music explorations or the more murky moodscapes of Nils Petter Molvær, they are also more than a few steps removed from them. The experimentations within soundscapes, spaces, and texture bring the listener into sacred places the world over, hence its title.

Supreme Court says No fresh suits can be registered against places of worship while hearing a batch of petitions challenging the the constitutional validity of the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991. The Act prohibits the conversion of the religious character of places of worship from what they were as on August 15, 1947. Earlier the lead petition (Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay v. Union of India) was filed in 2020, in which the Court issued notice to the Union Government in March 2021. Later, few other similar petitions were filed challenging the statute. The Union Government is yet to file its counter-affidavit in the matter, despite several extensions given by the Court. There is only one God, however we call him by different names. The belief we have in God is our religion. All the religions have different religious places of worship such as Mandir / Temple A mandir or Temple is a place where Hindus worship. Mandirs can be small village shrines or large buildings, surrounded by walls. Hindus worship daily at the mandir. Hindus take part in Puja (worship) at the Mandir. People also visit the Mandir to pray and participate in the bhajans (religious songs). Mandirs can look very different but they are usually located near rivers and gardens. The holy book of Hindus is bhagavad gita Gurdwara A gurdwara is a building in which Sikhs gather for congregational worship. However, wherever the Guru Granth Sahib is installed is a sacred place for Sikhs, whether this is a room in a private house or a gurdwara. The word is often translated as ‘doorway to the Guru’ and it means the place in which the Guru, embodied in the Guru Granth Sahib, is resident and honoured. In the 18th and 19th centuries the word gurdwara gradually replaced the earlier term ‘dharamsala’ for rooms used for religious purposes during the Gurus’ lifetimes. Mosque A mosque is a place where Muslims worship. A mosque may be small, and privately owned. A larger, collective, mosque is called a masjid jami. Muslims may attend five times a day for ritual prayers, or on Fridays for congregational prayer. Many mosques have elaborate domes, minarets (tall spires), and prayer halls. Church A church is a place where Christians worship. Small churches are called chapels. A cathedral is a very big church, that houses the seat of a bishop. At church, Christians learn teachings from The Holy Bible and share in congregational service on Sundays. Churches are often built in the shape of a cross and have an alter. Some churches also have a tall tower called a steeple.

Place of worship

A place of worship is a specially designed structure or consecrated space where individuals or a group of people such as a congregation come to perform acts of devotion, veneration, or religious study. A building constructed or used for this purpose is sometimes called a house of worship. Temples, churches, and mosques are examples of structures created for worship. A monastery, particularly for Buddhists, may serve both to house those belonging to religious orders and as a place of worship for visitors. Natural or topographical features may also serve as places of worship, and are considered holy or sacrosanct in some religions; the rituals associated with the Ganges river are an example in Hinduism.

Under International Humanitarian Law and the Geneva Conventions, religious buildings are offered special protection, similar to the protection guaranteed hospitals displaying the Red Cross or Red Crescent. These international laws of war bar firing upon or from a religious building.
