John Hawkins (columnist)
John Hawkins (born January 12, 1972) is a conservative blogger and columnist. He has published columns in several newspapers.
Early life
Hawkins graduated from Morehead High School in Eden, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he majored in psychology. His columns have published in various newspapers like Townhall.com, The Washington Times, Human Events, The Hill, The Washington Examiner, The Huffington Post, Hot Air, and TPNN.
Career
Hawkins owns the conservative blog Right Wing News, as well as Linkiest and he is co-owner of The Looking Spoon. His columns appear twice a week at Townhall and at PJ Media. He has interviewed Ann Coulter, Donald Rumsfeld, Milton Friedman, Andrew Breitbart and Karl Rove.
Hawkins worked for the Duncan Hunter presidential campaign, 2008, claimed to have been blackballed from the Republican Convention that year for criticizing John McCain and was also the co-founder of "Not Mitt Romney.com" in 2012. Additionally, Hawkins was also on Current TV's first King Con, appeared on the first HuffPoLive live panel and was listed by Alternet as one of the 10 Young Right-Wingers Being Prepped to Take Over the Conservative Movement .

John Hawkins (geologist)
John Hawkins (6 May 1761 – 4 July 1841) was an English geologist, traveller and writer.
Life
He was the youngest son of Thomas Hawkins of Trewinnard, St Erth, Cornwall, M.P. for Grampound, by Anne, daughter of James Heywood of London. His older brother, Sir Christopher Hawkins, became an MP and mineowner.
He was educated at Helston school, Winchester College, and took his BA from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1782. He then entered Lincoln's Inn (the family tradition was the practice of law), but decided to travel instead, and in Germany he studied mining and mineralogy.
Hawkins was a man of considerable means, owning much Cornish mining property, and inherited the Trewithen Estate. He devoted his long life to the study of literature, science, and art. He travelled in Greece, where he purchased stele, and in the Levant, and wrote dissertations ‘On the Syrinx of Strabo and the Passage of the Euripus,’ ‘On the site of Dodona,’ and the like which are printed in Robert Walpole's Memoirs of European and Asiatic Turkey (1818), and Walpole's Travels in various Countries of the East.

John Hawkins (author)
Sir John Hawkins (29 March 1719 – 21 May 1789) was an English author and friend of Dr Samuel Johnson and Horace Walpole. He was part of Johnson's various clubs but later left The Literary Club after a disagreement with some of Johnson's other friends. His friendship with Johnson continued and he was made one of the executors of Johnson's will. He married the heiress Sidney Storer and was the father of the novelist Laetitia Hawkins.
During his life, he wrote many works, including A General History of the Science and Practice of Music and his Life of Samuel Johnson in memory of his friend. He was appointed as a magistrate and later became Chairman of the Quarter Session for Middlesex. He was knighted in 1772 for his services.
Biography
Hawkins first was brought up to follow in the footsteps of his father to become an architect. However, before the age of 30 he established a successful business as a solicitor. He married Sidney Storer in 1753 and retired from all professional vocations in 1759 after his wife had received a large inheritance due to the death of her brother. In 1760 the family moved to Twickenham, near Horace Walpole, where Hawkins published an edition of Walton's The Complete Angler; Or, Contemplative Man's Recreation: Being a Discourse On Rivers, Fish-Ponds, Fish, and Fishing. In 1763, he published a document on the state of the Highways which has been considered to be the basis for the Highway Act 1835. Following the commission of the peace in 1771 he acted as a magistrate for the county of Middlesex. Hawkins was knighted in 1772, and served as Chairman of the Middlesex Quarter Session. In 1773, he provided the notes for a new Shakespeare edition.

Pilgrim (sandwich)
A Pilgrim or Puritan is a sandwich which has connotations with the American Pilgrim Fathers and Thanksgiving Day. It was a traditional way of using up leftover food from Thanksgiving Day and thus is composed essentially of bread slices or a bap, into which are placed sliced roast turkey, cranberries or cranberry sauce and cheddar cheese. There is an enormous variation in its composition with a huge range of ingredients being employed in some sandwiches and a great variation of ingredients between recipes. At its most basic it can be two slices of bread with slices of turkey, herb stuffing, cranberry sauce and some gravy.
More sophisticated versions of the Pilgrim sandwich include store-bought corn muffins, crusty hoagie, French bread, ciabatta rolls, extra virgin olive oil, butter, chopped apple, chopped onion, celery, flat leaf parsley, Thousand Island dressing and sliced/chopped pickled gherkins for topping.
A well known international magazine poll reported it to be one of America’s favourite sandwiches, the version illustrated included Muenster cheese and lettuce in addition to turkey, stuffing and cranberry chutney.

Pilgrim (Timothy Findley novel)
Pilgrim is a novel by Timothy Findley, first published by HarperFlamingo in Canada in 1999. The first US edition was published by HarperCollins in 2000. The novel is typical of Findley's interest in Jungian psychology; in fact, Carl Jung himself is a major character.
The novel's protagonist is Pilgrim, an immortal who is brought to Jung's clinic in Zürich after his latest failed suicide attempt. Pilgrim has lived through the ages, moving from one life to another, and claims to be tired of living. Jung takes it upon himself to cure what he sees as a delusion and to restore Pilgrim's will to live.
Pilgrim is the inspiration for a contemporary opera, The Dream Healer, composed by Lloyd Burritt, with libretto by Christopher Allan and Don Mowatt. The premiere is planned for March 2008 at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia. It will star mezzo-soprano Judith Forst as Lady Sybil Quartermaine

Pilgrim (Eric Clapton song)
"Pilgrim" is a pop rock song written by the British musicians Eric Clapton and Simon Climie. The duo also produced the song, which came about after a jam session between the two in the late 1990s. The title was recorded for Clapton's 1998 studio album Pilgrim and was released as the fourth and final single of the album. The song was always released as a B-Side to another single and was accopanied by a music video. It is part of the Lethal Weapon 4 soundtrack.

Which of course has gathered a lot of media attention over the last several months with the advent of ChatGPT and generative AI as a whole. But reading between the lines most of you were questioning if the programmers, creators, and companies coming out with these powerful technologies were to be trusted. Whether It’s AI, BCI, IoT, or other emerging technology what are the underlying reasons for them being released, and what are the potential misuses of the technologies when adopted? Effectively, what is the dark side of the singularity and the technologies that will enable it?
To answer these questions and shed more light on the subject, John Hawkins comes back onto the podcast. John was a guest a little over a month ago to actually talk about the singularity initially, and re-sparked my interest in it and hopefully yours as well.

The sort of people who create disastrous, broken lives for themselves and then demand that the rest of the world change to accommodate their bad decisions. The College of Architecture and Planning Guest Lecture Series collection contains digitized audio and video recordings and of lectures held at the Ball State University College of Architecture and Planning since its founding in the 1960s. The collection also contains digitized promotional materials promoting the lecture series.
The college has a history of fostering a vibrant guest lecture series that brings numerous architects, landscape architects, designers, urban planners, and preservationists to speak to the students and faculty. Some of the important design professionals reflected in the collection are Louis Kahn, Nathaniel Owings, Dan Kiley, Evans Woollen, Ewing Miller, and Balthazar Korab. Most of the early lectures were recorded onto audiocassette tapes which have been digitally enhanced for optimal listening. Depending on circumstances during the original recording, the quality of the audio recordings can vary.

The question then arises: what are the darker implications of the singularity and the technologies that will enable it?
About The Episode:
A few weeks ago I published an episode on the technological singularity that got a lot of attention and feedback from you the audience. One of the main ideas that was mentioned was the concern around the singularity and how it might negatively impact us as individuals as well as society as a whole. A lot of questions and comments revolved around the ramifications of AI becoming as intelligent as a human in all areas, and of course the next step of superintelligent AI. Which of course has gathered a lot of media attention over the last several months with the advent of ChatGPT and generative AI as a whole. But reading between the lines most of you were questioning if the programmers, creators, and companies coming out with these powerful technologies were to be trusted. Whether It’s AI, BCI, IoT, or other emerging technology what are the underlying reasons for them being released, and what are the potential misuses of the technologies when adopted? Effectively, what is the dark side of the singularity and the technologies that will enable it?
To answer these questions and shed more light on the subject, John Hawkins comes back onto the podcast. John was a guest a little over a month ago to actually talk about the singularity initially, and re-sparked my interest in it and hopefully yours as well.

John Hawkins is philosopher, poet and freelance journalist. His work has appeared in publications around the world, including Rumpus, Cordite, Morning Star, the Australian. He is a regular contributor to CounterPunch magazine, a site for progressive politics, culture and the arts. His current research deals with the future of human consciousness in the age of AI. John Hawkins (born January 12, 1972) is a conservative blogger and columnist. He has published columns in several newspapers.
Early life
Hawkins graduated from Morehead High School in Eden, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he majored in psychology. His columns have published in various newspapers like Townhall.com, The Washington Times, Human Events, The Hill, The Washington Examiner, The Huffington Post, Hot Air, and TPNN.
Career
Hawkins owns the conservative blog Right Wing News, as well as Linkiest and he is co-owner of The Looking Spoon. His columns appear twice a week at Townhall and at PJ Media. He has interviewed Ann Coulter, Donald Rumsfeld, Milton Friedman, Andrew Breitbart and Karl Rove.
Hawkins worked for the Duncan Hunter presidential campaign, 2008, claimed to have been blackballed from the Republican Convention that year for criticizing John McCain and was also the co-founder of "Not Mitt Romney.com" in 2012. Additionally, Hawkins was also on Current TV's first King Con, appeared on the first HuffPoLive live panel and was listed by Alternet as one of the 10 Young Right-Wingers Being Prepped to Take Over the Conservative Movement .
