Peanut sauce, satay sauce, bumbu kacang, sambal kacang, or pecel is a sauce made from ground roasted or fried peanuts, widely used in the cuisines of Indonesia,Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China and Africa. It is also used, to a lesser extent, in European (particularly Dutch) and Middle Eastern cuisine. It is also used in Filipino cuisine but rarely.
Peanut sauce goes well with chicken, meat and vegetables. It is often used to add flavour to grilled skewered meat such as satays, poured over vegetables as salad dressing such as in gado-gado, or as dipping sauces for spring rolls.
Ingredients
The main ingredient is ground roasted peanuts, for which peanut butter can act as a substitute. Several different recipes for making peanut sauces exist, resulting in a variety of flavours, textures and consistency. A typical recipe usually contains ground roasted peanuts or peanut butter (smooth or crunchy), coconut milk, soy sauce, tamarind, galangal, garlic, and spices (such as coriander seed, cumin, etc.). Other possible ingredients are chili peppers, sugar, milk, fried onion, and lemon grass. The texture and consistency (thin or thick) of a peanut sauce corresponds to the amount of water being mixed in it. Some recipes create thin or watery peanut sauce, while others make thick or gloppy peanut sauce.
This Peanut Sauce will make you want to lick your plate clean! All you need is 7 simple ingredients to make it, and it's perfect as a salad dressing, over noodles, or as a dip.

There are many variations of peanut or Satay sauce, some can be quite complex if made from scratch. But with a few short cuts it's surprisingly simple to make. This recipe is super simple and the results are outstanding. You could use fresh peanuts if you have the time, otherwise a good quality crunchy peanut butter does an excellent job. This sauce also goes well with any grilled skewered meats, over vegetables or as a dipping sauce. Also see my chicken Satay recipe.

This Easy Thai Peanut Sauce Recipe only takes a few simple ingredients and 5 minutes to make. It’s full of creamy peanut butter, rich soy sauce, a little bit of sugar, and spicy Sriracha sauce. You can dip fresh spring rolls or chicken satay into it or drizzle it on any and everything that needs a sweet and spicy kick.
FULL RECIPE: https://www.evolvingtable.com/peanut-sauce/
PRINTABLE RECIPE: https://www.evolvingtable.com/wprm_print/24649
INGREDIENTS:
½ cup peanut butter smooth
2 Tbsp. soy sauce Tamari or gluten-free
2 Tbsp. brown sugar honey or coconut sugar
1 Tbsp. rice vinegar or lime juice
1 clove garlic crushed
½-1 tsp. Sriracha sauce to taste
3-6 Tbsp warm water
INSTRUCTIONS:
Add all ingredients, except for the water, to a medium-sized bowl.
Whisk until well smooth and well combined.
Slowly add in warm water 1 tablespoon at a time to help thin it out.
This recipe makes roughly ¾ cup of sauce, or 12 tablespoons. Serve sauce with Fresh Spring Rolls and enjoy!
RECIPE NOTES:
Meal Prep and Storage:
To Prep Ahead: You can prepare homemade peanut sauce up to 3-4 days in advance. The sauce will slowly start to lose some of its flavor.
To Store: Store prepared peanut sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
To Freeze: Freeze leftover peanut sauce in a freezer safe container for up to 4-6 months.
To Reheat: You can either let stored peanut sauce sit out on the counter for an hour before serving, microwave it in the oven for 10-20 seconds, or heat it up in a small saucepan on the stove until smooth and creamy.
Pro Tips and Tricks:
Microwave peanut butter for 10 seconds before adding in to help soften it up.
Add warm water, and not cold, so you can easily stir the peanut sauce until smooth.
Make a double or triple batch and store leftovers in the freezer.
Add a little Sriracha sauce at a time and taste after each addition until it reaches your desired spice level.

2 cloves or garlic chopped finely
Wangjangle all of those things together
Add 2 or 3 tablespoons of hot water which you can add now or later. I added it just after the noodles finished cooking so that the sauce would be hotter going in
Boil 200 grams/7 ounces noodles. I used a bit less because I like my noodles drowning in sauce. That's also the reason I used more of all the other ingredients.
Then combinate those things and then also eat them.

2 Tablespoons peanut butter (lets be real I used 3)
1 Teaspoon soy sauce
½ Tablespoon rice vinegar
½ teaspoon sesame oil (let's be real I used a full teaspoon like a badass)
½ teaspoon sugar (I made it once without the sugar and it was still good)
1 teaspoon of chili oil (let's be real that's exactly how much I used)
2 cloves or garlic chopped finely
Wangjangle all of those things together
Add 2 or 3 tablespoons of hot water which you can add now or later. I added it just after the noodles finished cooking so that the sauce would be hotter going in
Boil 200 grams/7 ounces noodles. I used a bit less because I like my noodles drowning in sauce. That's also the reason I used more of all the other ingredients.
Then combinate those things and then also eat them.
