Subscription-based or pay television has resulted in a change in what type of content is broadcast by these networks. This model has led to networks creating much more specialized types of shows to influence viewers to subscribe. Subscription networks are most concerned with providing content that will make people want to subscribe as well as renew subscriptions rather than who is watching and when this viewing is taking place.

Consumers Hate the Pay-TV Bundle: Here’s Why You Can’t Pay for Only the Channels You Watch
Around 75 million U.S. households have a pay-TV subscription from a cable, satellite or live TV streaming service. Many of these people are paying for 100+ channels when they only watch 5 or 10. Why can't they pay for only the channels they watch? In today's video, I answer that question and explain how the pay-TV bundle works for corporations and against consumers. Pay TV operators need to become 'super aggregators' to retain subscriber base | THE BIG STORY
Market research firm Fitch Solutions projected that pay TV operators Singtel and StarHub will continue to see a gradual erosion in their subscriber base. By the end of 2029, it figured there will be 460,660 pay-TV subscribers here, down from the 704,000 subscribers at the end of June. Netflix does not reveal the number of subscribers in Singapore, but market researcher Statista estimates there will be over 264,000 Netflix users here by the end of the year. Tech correspondent Vincent Chang tells us the ways in which pay TV can remain competitive. Read the story: https://str.sg/JBh2

Creepy Anti-Cable (Pay TV) PSA from the 70's
An "Anti-cable" television ad from the 70's (then known as Pay-TV) to discourage viewers to support cable television. Ironically, they encouraged people to support the movie theaters. Just some ploy by Network television companies to eliminate the competition from cable TV.

This is a video tape recording of WSMW TV Channel 27 from Worcester, Massachusettsas it broadcasts to subscribers of Preview. This scrambling method was known as Sync Suppression Active Video Inversion and was developed by Zenith. This subscription service broadcasted over the air from 1980 until its demise on december 31, 1985. Pirates ultimately doomed the over the air UHF subscription television industry. Although the VCR was not kind to recording scrambled signals, this tape became possible. This was recorded in 1984. THIS IS AN IMPROVED UPLOAD QUALITY OVER MY PREVIOUS UPLOAD BY POPULAR DEMAND...ENJOY!!
