Level 42 are an Englishpop rock and jazz-funkband, who had a number of worldwide and UK hits during the 1980s and 1990s.
Their most successful single in the UK was "Lessons in Love", which reached number three on the UK Singles Chart, and number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, upon its release in 1986. The earlier single, "Something About You" was their most successful single in the United States, reaching number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
After much success as a live and studio band in the 1980s, Level 42's commercial profile diminished during the early 1990s following a series of personnel changes and musical shifts. After disbanding in 1994, the band reformed in 2001.
History
1979–1980: Formation
Mark King and the Gould brothers (Phil and Rowland, the latter generally known by his nickname "Boon") were all brought up on the Isle of Wight and played together in various bands during their teenage years. Phil Gould went on to study at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he met keyboard player Mike Lindup in a percussion course. Both musicians found that they shared musical heroes: Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, Keith Jarrett and Jan Hammer.
Level 42 was the debut album released in 1981 by the British group Level 42.
It is best known for the track "Love Games", which became a successful jazz–funk and dancefloor hit for the band (reaching number 38 on the UK pop charts). It has figured in both L42's and bassist Mark King's solo live appearances to this day. Also gaining substantial dance airplay on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean was the track "Starchild", with Lindup on vocals.
The third single, "Starchild", has been released in six countries beyond the United Kingdom (peak position: #57), including the United States of America, where it entered the Club Play Singles at #60. In 2001, it was re-released by the label Peppermint Jam Records in the United Kingdom and Germany.
"Level 42" is the first single by Japanese pop singer Kaela Kimura, released on June 23, 2004. It peaked at number fourteen on the Japan Oricon singles chart.
Track listing
All lyrics written by Kaela Kimura, all music composed by Taiyo Yamazawa, arranged by Seiji Muto.
A career bank robber, Jack Foley, and a U.S. Marshal, Karen Sisco, are forced to share a car trunk during Foley's escape from a Florida prison. After he completes his getaway, Foley is chased by Sisco while he and his friends—right-hand man Buddy and unreliable associate Glenn—work their way north to Bloomfield Hills, a wealthy northern suburb of Detroit. There they plan to pay a visit to shady businessman Ripley, who foolishly bragged to them in prison years before about a cache of uncut diamonds hidden in his home.
"Out of Sight" was another beginning, musically and professionally. My music - and most music - changed with "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag", but it really started on "Out of Sight" ... You can hear the band and me start to move in a whole other direction rhythmically. The horns, the guitars, the vocals, everything was starting to be used to establish all kinds of rhythms at once... I was trying to get every aspect of the production to contribute to the rhythmic patterns.
"Out of Sight" was the third single Brown recorded for Smash Records in the midst of a contract dispute with his main label, King. A significant pop hit, it reached #24 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #5 on the Cashbox R&B chart. (Billboard had temporarily suspended its R&B listings at the time.) It was also the last song he would record for over a year, as the court's ruling in his dispute with King barred him from making vocal recordings for Smash.
The first season of Charmed, an American supernatural drama television series created by Constance M. Burge, premiered on October 7, 1998 on The WB. Airing on Wednesdays at 9:00 pm, the season consisted of 22 episodes and concluded its airing on May 26, 1999. Paramount Home Entertainment released the complete first season in a six-disc box set on February 1, 2005.
Synopsis
The Halliwell sisters discover that they are descendants of a long line of witches when they inherit a house from their grandmother and find the family's Book of Shadows. They learn that they each have a unique power. The strong-willed Prue Halliwell (Shannen Doherty) can move objects with her mind, reserved Piper Halliwell (Holly Marie Combs) is able to freeze time, and the uninhibited Phoebe Halliwell (Alyssa Milano) has the power of premonition. Together they have the "Power of Three", which they must use to fight demons and warlocks, and protect the innocent.

In your hands there's a photograph You look up, she begins to laugh So cold as she walks away And you know that it's time to pay You're caught in a web you spun yourself Face to face with your failure this very day You call out her name, you can't help yourself But you need love like you need a kick in the head You worked hard for the things you own Fancy cars and a country home Gave it all for a glittering prize To be a face people recognize On the walls of your home there are works of art But you stare at the picture on the floor The face of a man with an aching heart It's no fun to be famous anymore You said, "This is a sad day And I would gladly give it all away In exchange for a floating life" Shed your tears for a shallow dream Let your cry be a primal scream A song through the mists of time A serenade to your concubine You were wrong to believe she could set you free You're trapped by the trappings of success And you know that you'll never let you be 'Til the world knows the secrets you confessed You said, "I see her cruel face My heart is nothing but an empty space And on this sad day I would gladly give it all away In exchange for a floating life" Neither asleep nor awake Losing control you start to shake As the day begins to break They're gonna shoot you down in flames When that girl starts naming names There's nowhere to hide from your shame I see her cruel face My heart is nothing but an empty space And on this sad day I would gladly give it all away
