Oreads have elemental beings of earth somewhere in their ancestry.
give them the appearance and aspects of rock goes or elemental traits.
so first off awesome. Be a rock monster like the thing, check.
looking at their stats its pretty standard +2 strength and +2 wiz and a minus on charisma.
and they only have a movement of 20. so starting off meh nothing amazing.
they do have dark vision unto 60 feet which is nice and an added acid resistance but more on that later.
so here's where things get fun.
magic stone basically means they are never without some kind of weapon. I mean you think something made mostly out of stone would
just always be considered a weapon but maybe its a sandstone or something.
anyhow
having access to magic stone could be a really good benefit for low level campaigns or in situations were weapons are forbidden of unacceptable.
mind you this is a level 1 cleric spell spell so its not like you couldn't get it another way but its not to shabby. Then looking at the alternative racial trails really gets silly.
If you think magic stone is lame. that fine toss it. take ferrous growth instead and you now have a Swiss army knife in your pocket in the shape of a pebble.
once per day you can transform a small stone into a 10lb piece of steel in pretty much any shape you want. it's suppose to be intended for a sword or shield or crowbar but
who's to say you cant make it into a bear trap, or a chain... 10lbs will give you 50ft of chain... manacles, lock pics, climbing pitons. sooooo many options. hell if you
really wanted to piss off your dm you could turn it into a Metal Glove and just stick your hand into anything you think might be traped with reckless abandon.
moving on,
another option would be take granite skin instead of your acid resistance. which would give you a starting natural ac bonus of +1 which isn't to bad for a lot of classes,
that alone I think makes Oreads a good options for fighters and clerics that know their going to be in combat a lot.
but say you wanted to keep the acid resistance. you could always take the stone in the blood trait, which replaces earth affinity which really only matters if you choose
to be an earth cleric.. meh...
the alternative is that every time you take acid damage, regardless of if it goes over your acid resistance or not you gain 2hp per level per day as fast healing 2. That's amazing
you can basically just buy acid flask for 10 gold, or make them yourself if you want go that route splash some on yourself (or an near by enemy) take the 1pt splash
damage and just sit back for free healing.
Hell. if you're really in a pinch or surrounded by rats or goblins just smash the flask over your head, take a maximum of 1 because of your point of damage and let everything
else just slowly burn away.
hell if you're really in a pinch and you have a cool gm just carry around some lemons and squirt some in your eyes when the chips are down.
Either way Oreads have some pretty cool little tricks you can play with if you look at their alternate traits. they have quite a bonus spells and abilities like Guarding as an optional
shield abilities which allows you to grand your shield bonus to your allies. basically shield other as a shield enchantment.
So if you haven't played an oread or you just think its about time to start Clobbering things roll one up and give it a go

Hilda Doolittle was an American modernist poet who began as a part of the influential imagist modernist poets group initiated by Ezra Pound but later on, turned towards a wider variety of forms, including fiction, memoir, and verse drama.
She was born on 10th September 1886 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and died on September 27, 1961. As a poet, she chose to write under the name H.D. and became famous by that acronym. Hilda was a student of Greek mythology and literature at Bryan Mawr College, Pennsylvania and she continued to use elements of Greek mythology in her poems and other literary works throughout her life. In 1901, she came in contact with Ezra Pound and she was hugely impressed by him. They developed an on-and-off romantic relationship and remained close friends throughout their life. However, Hilda’s family wasn’t in favor of their marriage and hence, she married Richard Aldington in 1913.
Ezra Pound suggested the pseudonym H.D. to Hilda as she felt that "Hilda Doolittle" is an old-fashioned and "quaint" name.
H.D. joined Ezra Pound to work for the poetry magazine Blast and The Egoist in 1911 in London and like Ezra Pound, she too disliked the Victorian descriptive style of poetry. Thus, they began their modernist imagist group. Initially, Hilda and Pound agreed to follow certain principles in their poetic works which included direct treatment of the 'thing' whether subjective or objective, using absolutely no word that does not contribute to the presentation, and composing poetry in the sequence of the musical phrase, not in sequence of a metronome.
Despite her agreement with using minimal words and more imagery in her poetic works, Hilda continued to use elements of Greek mythology in her works. One such imagist poem written by Hilda Doolittle or H.D. is titled Oread which was first published in the first issue of Blast in 1914.
The title Oread itself is an element of Grek mythology which means a mountain wood nymph.
Oread is a first-person poem and Oread is the speaker addressing the sea. The poem is highly concise consisting of only 26 words composed in six lines written in free verse without using any superfluous word, any adjective, which does not reveal something. H.D. profoundly used imagery in this compact poem, so much so that two contrasting images have been superimposed on each other, depriving the reader of the possibility to determine, which is the "primary" one. There is no systematic rhyming pattern but H.D. used anaphora in the first two lines and apostrophes in the second and third lines which offer a deep connection. The poem is a fine example of imagist verse that uses imagism to the fullest. In addition, Hilda used alliteration and metaphor in Oread and compares wood to the sea, and refers to the waves as “pointed pines” and “great pines”.
To a mountain nymph, the sea is completely alien but in this poem, the nymph is addressing the sea and thus, she imagines the sea but as her, all experiences are confounded to the hill, woods, and trees, she expresses the sea in her own terms.
“Whirl up, sea—
whirl your pointed pines,
splash your great pines
on our rocks,
hurl your green over us,
cover us with your pools of fir.”
