Here's The Wealthiest Neighborhood In Orange County, California
For this video, I drove through the wealthiest neighborhood in Orange County, California. To get there, I would hop along various freeways, from the 22 to the 55 and finally into Newport Beach.
The traffic was surprisingly light and it was a really pretty day - highs in the mid 70s and not a cloud in the sky - a perfect day for driving to our final destination along the coast. The day was Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 1 in the afternoon.

I Drove Through The Worst Parts Of Orange County, California. This Is What I Saw.
Wow! Who would have thought Orange County had so many bad areas?
For this video, I visited Orange County, California, which is well known for being a rich, wealthy enclave. It’s not as rich as you might think. It ranks 79th in the nation in terms of average household incomes.
But my goal today wasn’t to see the fancy homes. It was to see the worst part of Orange County, to put things into perspective on the difference between the rich and the poor here. So, I took the 91 to the city of Santa Ana, smack dab in the heart of the OC. It was a bright, sunny day, and of course, there were fires in the area. Because it’s fall, so there are fires everywhere in southern California, coincidentally, due to the Santa Ana winds. The day was Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 11 am.

Orange County, Southern California, is a collection of small cities stretching from the Santa Ana Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The county has a pristine coastline and an attitude all of its own.
Californian beach culture is captured at Crystal Cove, with its classic beach shacks built from disused Hollywood movie sets. Huntington Beach, or 'Surf City', inspired hit songs by The Beach Boys and Jan and Dean.
The city of Newport Beach boasts a famous pier and upscale bars and boutiques. Newport Harbor is filled with pleasure craft and overlooked by luxury homes.
The O.C's most-visited attractions include Disneyland Park in Anaheim, and nearby Knott's Berry Farm, a theme park celebrating America's pioneering park....

Orange County – Find this Californian destination between the vibrant metropolis of Los Angeles and the relaxed waves of San Diego. Come visit “OC,” as it’s called by locals, located along the Pacific coastline and inland.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Orange County: https://www.expedia.com/Orange-County.d603224.Destination-Travel-Guides
Your #OrangeCounty #vacation should include a #tour of some of the oldest Californian buildings in use today at Mission San Juan Capistrano. Don’t miss Laguna Beach, another town with a long history.
At Crystal Cover, #stay in antique cabins put together from old Hollywood movie sets. At Newport Beach, sprawling, million-dollar homes line the harbor.
Hit the waves in Huntington Beach, then head inland to explore the theme parks. The grandfather of all amusement parks is Disneyland®: it’s stood in Anaheim since 1965. Not far away is Knott’s Berry Farm®, once a collection of relocated ghost towns that evolved into a series of rides and amusements intended to celebrate the pioneer spirit.
Despite its various architectural marvels, theme parks, and numerous activities, Orange County is famed for something much simpler: its sunsets. Head over to the nearest beach and watch the sun disappear into the Pacific.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Newport Beach proper is a very wealthy enclave located here, practically right in the middle of Orange County’s coastline. Within Newport are various elite communities such as Balboa Island, Crystal Cove and Harbor View. However, the most expensive homes in Newport, and within all of Orange County lie in the community of Corona Del Mar, located here along a bluff which overlooks the Pacific Ocean.
Some of the homes we’ll see on the cliffside sell for $4 million. Some sell for $40 million. The average home prices here are $3 million dollars, putting this community at the top for home prices. In addition, the average income per household is $226,000. So, these folks are rich.
Right now, I’m going to begin at the bottom of the hill on Route 1, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway. We’ll check out the village along PCH, give some perspective of some amazing homes along the coast, and then drive up into the hillsides to see the homes up there.
From time to time, I’ll show you where we are on a map.
Now, we’re going to head up into the hills to check out the homes up there - many of which have ocean views. To some, these hillside homes may not be overly impressive from the road, nor are they the huge sprawling mansions that you might expect. But keep in mind, these are the wealthiest people in the richest county in Southern California.
For many of these homes along the hillside, it’s all about location, safety and amenities. After all, this part of Newport Beach is well known for its laid back beaches, surfing spots, tidepools, cliffside views and village shops.

Santa Ana is well known for being the worst place in Orange County. The city lies in the middle of the county, and has some of the county’s poorest residents, as well as some of its most dangerous neighborhoods.
Using statistical data and firsthand accounts from previous visits, I’m going to drive this section of the city, on the southeastern side of town. I’ll be driving up and down various neighborhoods in this general area.
Santa Ana is the second largest city in the county, population wise, just behind Anaheim, which is also a dangerous and rundown part of the county. There are 332,000 people squished together here. It’s actually the 4th most densely populated city in the whole country, and is California’s 11th most populous city.
As far back as 2011, Forbes called Santa Ana one of the safest large cities in the nation. But crime here has really picked up over the last decade, and now, Santa Ana is about average, crime wise, for all major cities. It’s not that this place is bad for crime, it’s bad for Orange County. Which is, overall, very safe and desirable.
Home prices in Orange County average $781,000. Here in Santa Ana, the average home price is $610,000. Keep THAT in mind as I drive through. There are very few homes under $300,000 in the areas I’m going to drive through. Most are in the $350,000ish range.
The average person here in Santa Ana earns about 24 grand a year. It remains one of the poorest areas in the country, and certainly, one of the poorest places in California.
Santa Ana used to be a very white community. Now, it’s 80% hispanic. You can likely tell by the home design that 4 in 5 homes in this part of town are home to a hispanic family. The Los Angeles Times once called Santa Ana the new face of California, due to the outrageously high percentage of Mexican Americans who live here now.
It would actually be hard to find anywhere else in the country that has more of a Hispanic vibe, culturally and economically, than in Santa Ana. Hence, this is one of the few cities in Orange County, which votes democratic. Orange County is well known for being mostly a republican stronghold.
We’ll drive around the worst neighborhoods in Orange County for a while now, and then at the end, see the main drag in town and eventually drive into downtown Santa Ana. I’m sure the last part will be eye-opening as well.
Now, we’re going to drive up the heart of Santa Ana on Main Street, north, into downtown.
That was a look at the worst part of Orange County, California. It’s changed a lot here, and it seems to be getting worse. There are a lot of great people here, but it remains very poor and much more dangerous than any other place in the region.

The O.C's most-visited attractions include Disneyland Park in Anaheim, and nearby Knott's Berry Farm, a theme park celebrating America's pioneering park.
Architectural landmarks include the Crystal Cathedral. The Segerstrom Center is the visually stunning heart of the county's arts community. For a journey through world cultures, the Bowers Museum offers world-class exhibits.
But for all these sights, nothing quite compares to Orange County's sunsets. They are pure Californian gold, free for everyone to enjoy.
