On the Corner is a studio album by jazz musician Miles Davis, recorded in June and July 1972 and released later that year on Columbia Records. Owing to its unconventional sound, it was scorned by established jazz critics at the time of its release and was one of Davis's worst-selling recordings. Its critical standing has improved dramatically with the passage of time; In 2014, Stereogum ranked it as Davis's best album, while in 2007 BBC Music noted its influence and foreshadowing of a variety of subsequent musical genres.
Joining previous multi-disc Davis reissues, On the Corner was reissued as part of the 6-disc box set The Complete On the Corner Sessions in 2007.
Music
Davis claimed that On the Corner was an attempt at reconnecting with the young African American audience which had largely forsaken jazz for such groove-based idioms as soul, funk and rock. Much to his chagrin, the album's commercial success was as limited as that of other albums since Bitches Brew, topping the Billboard jazz chart but only peaking at #156 in the more heterogeneous Billboard 200. In addition to the discernible rock and funk influence on the album, it also represented a culmination-of-sorts of the proto-electronic editing approach that Davis and producerTeo Macero had begun to explore in the late 1960s.
John Patitucci (born December 22, 1959) is an American jazz double bass and jazz fusion electric bass player.
Biography
Patitucci was born in Brooklyn, New York, where he began playing the electric bass at age 10, composing and performing at age 12, as well as playing the acoustic bass at 15, and the piano one year later. After moving west, he studied classical bass at San Francisco State University and Long Beach State University.
"Hold Tight" is a song recorded by American singer Madonna featured on her thirteenth studio album, Rebel Heart (2015). The track was written and produced by Madonna, with additional writing provided by Diplo, MoZella, Toby Gad, Ariel Rechtshaid, and MNEK. A demo of "Hold Tight" was leaked onto the internet on December 22, 2014, while its final version was released by Madonna on February 9, 2015 on iTunes Store. The song was later sent to Italian radio on July 24, 2015, as the third single from Rebel Heart in that country.
"Hold Tight" is a midtempo pop song, with it incorporating military drums, atmospheric keyboards, and flourishes of electronics as its instrumentation. Lyrically, the song talks about love triumphing through tough times, having a message of holding onto one another and being strong. The song received mixed reviews from music critics, with some praising its chorus and picking it as a standout track. Others named it dull and generic. The song charted in a few European territories, reaching the top-forty in Finland, Hungary, and Spain.
"Hold Tight" is a 1981 single by Change from the LP entiltled Miracles. The single's vocals were sung by Diva Gray. Along with the songs "Paradise" and "Heaven of My Life", it became a number one single on the US dance chart for five weeks. It was also the second single released from "Miracles," as "Hold Tight" peaked at number 40 on Billboard's Soul Chart, and number 89 on the Billboard Hot 100.
