Despite his relative inexperience, Clark rose quickly in federal politics, entering the House of Commons in the 1972 election and winning the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party in 1976. He came to power in the 1979 election, defeating the Liberal government of Pierre Trudeau and ending 16 years of continuous Liberal rule. Taking office the day before his 40th birthday, Clark is the youngest person to become Prime Minister. His tenure was brief as he only won a minority government, and it was defeated on a motion of non-confidence. Clark's Progressive Conservative Party subsequently lost the 1980 election and Clark lost the leadership of the party in 1983.
He returned to prominence in 1984 as a senior cabinet minister in Brian Mulroney's cabinet, retiring from politics after not standing for re-election for the House of Commons in 1993. He made a political comeback in 1998 to lead the Progressive Conservatives before its dissolution, serving his final term in Parliament from 2000 to 2004. Clark today is recognized as a distinguished scholar and statesman, and serves as a university professor and as president of his own consulting firm.
Clark then spent a season in the Welsh section of the Southern League with Aberaman Athletic. In May 1922, Southampton were looking for an outside left to replace Fred Foxall, who had left the previous March. Clark had impressed the Saints' directors in the FA Cup match between the two sides in February 1921 and moved to the south coast. He made his debut in a 0–0 draw at South Shields on 26 August 1922 and retained his place until late December, when he was replaced by Len Andrews.

Peter "Pete" Seeger (May 3, 1919– January 27, 2014) was an American folk singer and activist. A fixture on nationwide radio in the 1940s, he also had a string of hit records during the early 1950s as a member of the Weavers, most notably their recording of Lead Belly's "Goodnight, Irene", which topped the charts for 13 weeks in 1950. Members of the Weavers were blacklisted during the McCarthy Era. In the 1960s, he re-emerged on the public scene as a prominent singer of protest music in support of international disarmament, civil rights, counterculture and environmental causes.
Prior to his parliamentary career, Joe Clark also operated as a tailor at Coonamble and later at Dover Heights in Sydney. He went on to serve as an alderman Coonamble Council for nine years, including three terms as Mayor of Coonamble. He was president of the Coonamble branch of the Australian Labor Party and was president of the Castlereagh Electorate council. He was closely associated with the N.S.W. State Labor Group under the leadership of Jack Beasley.
Time magazine's cover article notes that Clark's style as principal was primarily disciplinarian in nature, focused on encouraging school pride and good behavior, although Clark was also portrayed as a former social activist in the film Lean on Me. "Clark's use of force may rid the school of unwanted students," commented Boston principal Thomas P. O'Neill Jr., "but he also may be losing kids who might succeed." George McKenna, former principal of Washington Preparatory High School in Los Angeles, often cited as a contemporary of Joe Clark as a school reformer with a similarly outgoing approach, was also critical. "Our role is to rescue and to be responsible," McKenna told Time. "If the students were not poor black children, Joe Clark would not be tolerated."

Chorus: Seventy miles of wind and spray, Seventy miles of water, Seventy miles of open bay-- It's a garbage dump. What's that stinky creek out there, Down behind the slum's back stair Sludgy puddle, sad and gray? Why man, that's San Francisco Bay. (CHORUS) Big Solano and the Montecelle' Ferry boats, I know them well, Creek and groan in their muddy graves Remembering San Francisco Bay (CHORUS) Joe Ortega and the Spanish crew Sailed across the ocean blue Came into the mighty Bay Stood on the decks and cried, "Ole" (CHORUS) Fill it here, fill it here. Docks and tidelands disappear, Shaky houses on the quaky ground The builder, he's Las Vegas bound (CHORUS) Dump the garbage in the Bay City fathers say, "Okay, When cries of anguish fill the air, We'll be off on the Riviere."
