Building a better Ofsted: the response to the Big Listen
We have now published our response to the Big Listen, the largest consultation in Ofsted’s history. In this short video, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector, Sir Martyn Oliver, thanks everyone who took part, and outlines some of the changes we will be making in the coming months. These changes are designed to reduce the pressure of inspection on education and social care staff, while still robustly assessing the quality of early years, schools, further education and social care providers.

Is the Ofsted framework fit for purpose?
A former Ofsted inspector has told Sky News the watchdog's process for grading schools is "nonsense", claiming evidence is made to fit a predetermined rating.
The education regulator has come under scrutiny following the suicide of headteacher Ruth Perry, who led Caversham Primary School in Reading, Berkshire.

Childminder webinar: I’m new to Ofsted inspection, what do I need to know?
Our policy leads talk about what childminders can expect from their inspection. They also explain why we want childminders to have the confidence to do what they do every day and not do anything different because the inspector calls.
This webinar is particularly relevant to newly registered childminders and those who haven’t yet had their first inspection.

Our panel:

Strong foundations in the first year at school | Ofsted webinar for schools
We know that what children learn when they are young has a profound and lasting impact. We also know that schools still face challenges in dealing with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children currently in Reception and key stage 1.
In this webinar, we shared some of the key messages from our recent publication, ‘Strong foundations in the first years of school’ and explored what Ofsted research and inspection suggest schools could pay particular attention to in Reception and key stage 1, so that all children gain the knowledge and skills that will prepare them for key stage 2 and beyond. We also shared some practical suggestions on how to consider the impact of the curriculum and how to enable all children, including those with the lowest starting points, to learn what they need t...

Ofsted change is 'vindication', says sister of headteacher Ruth Perry
The government's decision to change the school inspection system is "vindication" and a "huge relief", says the sister of Ruth Perry.
The headteacher took her own life after Ofsted downgraded her school from "outstanding" to "inadequate".
Julia Waters told Sky News it was a "huge relief" that the new government had "recognised the huge harm done by the previous system".
She said: "It is vindication for what we have been fighting for for months."

We also shared some practical suggestions on how to consider the impact of the curriculum and how to enable all children, including those with the lowest starting points, to learn what they need to know by the end of key stage 1.
This webinar is relevant to those working in primary schools and in particular, those teaching in Reception and key stage 1.

We also shared some practical suggestions on how to consider the impact of the curriculum and how to enable all children, including those with the lowest starting points, to learn what they need to know by the end of key stage 1.
This webinar is relevant to those working in primary schools and in particular, those teaching in Reception and key stage 1.
Our panel:
- Sue Morris-King HMI, Deputy Director, schools and early education
- Kirsty Godfrey, Senior HMI, schools and early education
- Tim Jenner, Senior HMI, schools policy and early education

The government's decision to change the school inspection system is "vindication" and a "huge relief", says the sister of Ruth Perry.
The headteacher took her own life after Ofsted downgraded her school from "outstanding" to "inadequate".
Julia Waters told Sky News it was a "huge relief" that the new government had "recognised the huge harm done by the previous system".
She said: "It is vindication for what we have been fighting for for months."
