How To Celebrate Norway's National Day, 17th of May in Oslo | Visit Norway
Norway's biggest day is of course its National Day, also known as Constitution Day. It is celebrated on 17 May. And this is quite a party! What makes Norway's 17th of May special is its very non-military nature. Norway's national day is the day known for its children's parades, ice cream, and marching bands. This is also the day when you see a lot of Norwegians wearing their "bunads" - traditional Norwegian costumes.
In Norwegian this day is called: Syttende Mai, Nasjonaldagen or Grunnlovsdagen. And the best way to congratulate each other is to say "Gratulerer med dagen!".
In this episode of "How To Norway" Dag and Katarina meet for the traditional 17th of May breakfast before they go towards the Royal Palace in Oslo to see the biggest children's parade in Norway. And the special part ...

4K | MAI 17, NORWAY'S NATIONAL DAY | CONSTITUTION DAY 2022
Welcome to A&A travelling and to Norway`s National Day. On May 17 we celebrate the signing of the constituition in 1814, and in Norway Constituiton Day is huge. While many countries celebrate their national day with a military parade, Norway`s 17th of May is more of a party for everyone, especially childreen. Before taking to the streets, many like to gather for a 17 May breakfast, together with neighbours, friends and family, with freshly baked bread, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, and champagne for the grown-ups.
Children`s parades then take place across the country, as marching bands lead processions through local communities. The biggest parades attract tens of thousands of people, who wave flags and shouting "hurray". In Oslo, the parade is greeted by the royal family, who waves to t...

Norway's Constitution Day - my take on this day in Haugesund 2024
No edits - just me talking to my camera about Norway's Constitution Day and how the residents here seem so proud of their national identity.
We weren't too sure this port of call would be worth a visit but it's actually a rather smart place. Then again everywhere seems pretty good when the rain stays away and the sun is out!

Norway’s Constitution Day- The sights and sounds of the 17th of May! Vlog#14
This was our first constitution day here in Norway and the first celebration they have had since the pandemic. We had such a fun day watching all of the parades. I loved seeing all of the traditional dresses of the Norwegian women. I also love that the country has upheld the formality of the day despite some progression to casualness around the world. Maybe next year the kids will have the energy to hangout even longer.

In Oslo, the parade is greeted by the royal family, who waves to the crowds from the balcony of the Royal Palace.
It`s a patriotic, but very inclusive and joyous atmosphere, visitors are very welcomed. The focus is mostly on eating huge amounts of ice cream, hot dogs, listening to speeches and music, and playing games at local schools.
The day is also an opportunity to show off one`s bunad, Norway`s traditional costume worn by both men and women. There are many variations, with colours and styles indicating where in Norway the owner`s ancestry lies.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
