Norwegian police say suspect in bow-and-arrow attack acted alone
Norwegian police said the man accused of killing at least five people in a bow-and-arrow attack was “a person with few friends,” adding they believe he acted alone.
“It’s not very likely that he has planned this with others, or something. He has done this by himself,” police inspector Per Thomas Omholt told reporters during an update Saturday on the investigation.
Omholt also said a theory the suspect had converted to Islam was “not so strong any longer” and the man “doesn’t do the traditional things that you do in that culture.”

CCTV Shows Suspect Firing Bow-and-Arrow During Deadly Attack in Norway
The Norwegian Police Service has released CCTV footage from an attack on October 13, 2021, in which five people were killed by a suspect armed with a knife and a bow-and-arrow at a grocery store in Kongsberg.
Espen Andersen Brathen, 38, has gone on trial for the murder of five people – four women and one man – and the attempted murder of 11 others.
Norwegian media said those fatally injured had died of knife wounds.
TV 2 Norway reported that Brathen told the court that he believed he was going blind, and that by killing people he would become “born again” and save himself. The prosecution and defense both argued that Brathen could not be held criminally responsible after medical experts concluded that he had paranoid schizophrenia, according to Norwegian news website thelocal.no.
The trial began on May 18 and was scheduled to last until June 17, with a verdict expected in weeks following.

A man armed with a bow and arrow killed five people and wounded two others in a series of attacks in the Norwegian town of Kongsberg on Wednesday, local police said.
Kongsberg police chief Oeyvind Aas said one of the wounded people was an off-duty police officer, and that police would investigate whether the attack amounted to an "act of terror.”
The government said police had launched a large-scale investigation.
Following the attacks, the police directorate said it had ordered officers nationwide to carry firearms. Norwegian police are normally unarmed but officers have access to guns and rifles when needed.
