The Irish Rover - The Dubliners & The Pogues
From The Late Late Show - Tribute to The Dubliners March 1987
This is the first performance of their hit single - The Irish Rover which reached number 8 in the UK singles charts. It was Eamonn Campbell who came up with the idea to record a song with The Pogues for The Dubliners 25 Years Celebration album that he was producing at the time. It was Barney McKenna who thought of the song. One of the great collaborations.

Since 1962, The Dubliners have been enthralling audiences worldwide with their music and song. The strength and attractiveness of The Dubliners has always been in the personalities of the musicians who have made up this boisterous band of balladeers, from original members, Ronnie Drew, Barney McKenna, Luke Kelly, Ciarán Bourke, John Sheahan and Bob Lynch to the arrival at different stages of Jim McCann, Seán Cannon, Eamonn Campbell and finally the peerless Paddy Reilly.

Elkie Brooks - No more the fool 1987
Just why I stayed around
When all I found was a heartache
I believed your every word
Didn't know the hurt and pain that you'd make
But why did it take so long
Alas, now I've seen the light
I found the heart to say
No more the fool
Who waits around
Waitin' for you to bring me down
Those days are gone now
No more the nights
Layin' awake
Cryin' and waitin' for the day to break
No more the sound as my dreams fall and hit the ground
While I'm waitin' around
No more the fool
You thought I'd break
Then you were wrong
That I won't see what's goin' on
But I knew
Here I am
I'm alive
And you'll see I'll survive
Without you
And I won't be the one who comes runnin'
It ain't like it used to be
It's your turn to run to me

ELKIE BROOKS Sunshine After The Rain
British songstress Elkie Brooks scored half a dozen hits at home, three of which made the Top 10 - "Pearl's a singer", "No more the fool" and this 1977 hit 'Sunshine after the rain".
Elkie achieved a bigger hit with Chris Rea's 'Fool if you think its over' than he did in the United Kingdom. She also memorialized versions of the Peter Allen classic 'Don't cry out loud' and the Moody Blues 'Knights in white satin'. With a five decade career, Ms Brooks is something of an icon in her homeland, but chart success by and large eluded her in Australia, but several of her songs have made their way into my collection, and her warm, textured voice is always a delight to hear. I hope all who find this, enjoy it.

Chris Farlowe : Stormy Monday : The Blues Years : 1985 - 2008 : 3CD Box Set Review
55-track 3CD collection focuses on the blues and R ‘n’ B recordings of Chris Farlowe from 1985 to 2008 demonstrating Farlowe’s powerful voice undiminished by the years since 1960s hits such as the chart topping ‘Out Of Time’.
Highlights include Farlowe being joined by his friend Van Morrison, Farlowe’s brilliant version of his friends’ the Small Faces’ chart topper ‘All Or Nothing’ and a duet between Chris and Elkie Brooks on the Stax classic, ‘Private Number’. Paul Jones of Manfred Mann plays harmonica on a great take on Solomon Burke’s ‘Cry To Me’ and Humble Pie’s Clem Clempson plays guitar on ‘I Want To Do Everything For You’.
There are 15 live tracks with the Norman Baker Band, the Thunderbirds and wit...

The Moments released it two years earlier; under the title 'We Don't Cry Out Loud' produced by famed singer Sylvia Robinson ('Shame Shame Shame' - Shirley & Company). This R&B version was not a major hit but thanks to the pair of aforementioned vocalists, 'Don't Cry Out Loud' is a 70's classic; giving the ladies success in their homelands. Here, I have re-laid the audio of Elkie to her TV performance of the song. It's spooky, but in a few of the shots she resembles Melissa Manchester.

There are 15 live tracks with the Norman Baker Band, the Thunderbirds and with Roy Herrington and The Rhythm ‘N’ Blues Train. Chris revisits his hits ‘Out Of Time’ and ‘Handbags and Gladrags’ and gives definitive renditions of T Bone Walker’s ‘Stormy Monday’, B.B. King’s ‘Thrill Is Gone’ and Bobby Bland’s ‘Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City’.
